Needed a good video so I chose this one again! Wonderful trip with your son, great food and glad you used the Mrs.'s herbs! Really enjoy your respect for Senior and the Armed Forces! Looking forward to your deer camp video! Hope things go well!
28 original members at our camp. 1974 to present. 8 of their pictures on the wall. Many veterans. Myself retired Military. Thank you for your efforts and taking us along with you. Maybe one day head on over to FOREST County for visit.
A piece of property can destroy friendships.. I'm amazed there's no friction between you guys and Seniors son and family. Good job at getting along!!!!
Late to the party, but each time we’ve had out land timbered, it has greatly improved the habitat and our success rate. Old growth parcels are good, but a good mix of new growth and islands of old timber is ideal. Good luck
Thanks for another entertaining video, they seem to go by all to quick, and appreciate the Memorial Day tribute. Being a disabled Army veteran of the 1968 Tet in RVN, it is a solemn and special day.
Great video as always! I bet that y'all are going to be happy with your timber management plan. More sunlight to the ground = more browse which supports a larger and healthier deer herd. They finished up the thinning on our property down here a couple weeks ago and we are excited about the upcoming season. Spent last weekend refreshing mineral sites like you, and clearing logging debris from trails and food plots. Took a skid steer and opened up two new food plots in the loading docks, and hauled a bunch of firewood to camp.
Looks like firewood wont be an issue when they get started, clearing some of those old logging trails is a plus also. Sounds like you had a great weekend also.
Rook your videos are very addicting to watch lol. You are all a great bunch of guys that like to have fun, laugh, and cook some great food! Keep up the great work, the signs look awesome. Great tribute to Sr. also, seems like he was a great guy
When my Grandpa had his PA cabin property timbered he made sure the crew left the tree tops. This is crucial! Those tree tops provide bedding cover and browse food for the deer. You can also strategically chain saw cut trails through the tree tops where you want the deer to travel. The key is getting it done plenty of time before deer season. Great video as always!
Thanks for the info Doug, he did mention that they would leave the tops and that it would help with the wildlife. As of now I think processing would not start until next Spring. Hopefully they will be finished with the lots next to ours sooner than later and we can see what kind of impact it has.
@@whiterook85 That's great. Hopefully you guys see a lot of wildlife get pushed over to your property with the timbering going on at the neighboring lots this year. Then, once you guys get your lot timbered it will really help create a sanctuary for deer and turkey in the general area. You might also want to ask the logging crew if they know anyone who can disc till that food plot, or maybe they even have the equipment to do it themselves.
@@whiterook85 I was a logger for over 30 years, and I can tell you that deer are a very curious animal. We would make a new landing one day, then come in the next morning to find deer tracks all over in the areas we had just been in the previous day. I am also an avid deer hunter and I can promise you that as long as the tops are left, you will not see a decrease in the amount of deer in your area. As others have stated, if anything, it will bring them in. Love the videos, and keep em coming!
Great video buddy thanks for sharing. My son Matt is in basic training at fort Lenard wood Missouri. Great tribute to senior. Hope you all are doing well.
Good stuff brother, I had a steak prepared with olive oil and montreal seasoning with a stove pipe of natty ice on the side! Heading to our deer camp soon, we have a lot of clean up from the year before. A select cut which left many tops in our way, gonna be work but the heat will be awesome! Thanks, for the shout out and the great video. Veteran U.S. Army, M1A1 tanker, 19kilo. That was awesome!
Thanks! Sounds like a good meal you just made up yourself there. Let me know how your woods is doing after make it there. Glad to do the shout out for all our Service Members, past, present, and future!
Sean doesn’t know how lucky he is. I lost my dad last year so our last trip to camp has come and gone. This video was kinda emotional. Reason being my father lost his battle to an illness he acquired from “agent orange”. Thank you though I loved it. I’m headed to camp next weekend and I know dad will be with us and I can’t wait for my 2 year old to gain the memories I had with my dad all those years
Sorry to hear that B P, you know your Dad will be with you always, as SR is with us. Your memories will keep him alive. Enjoy your time at camp, hope the weather is good for the trip.
I felt bad not to do a whole weekend trip around Memorial Day, so I had to add something in. Trying to plan something to get back and mark off the area we want him to survey.
Good to see you two and Denali at the cabin. Nice well trained dog. Keeps quiet mostly. Lately there have been some good nights to see the Milky Way. It's always a marvelous sight. Fresh new growth will certainly help out with attracting deer if you guys decide to go ahead with some cutting. We sort of have the same problem where there hasn't been much logging in our area for quite some time. Some nice deer on your camera. Great vid ...until next time RITP !!
Thanks Ian, yes seeing the Milky Way is always a plus up there. Have the GoPro9 that you can set it up and will automatically come on at a certain time. Did a pretty good job, but I still have some setting to fine tune. When the leaves are down it really shows. We will get to see what happens this year with the deer and the lots that were cut next to ours. Should be very interesting. RITP!!!
Man I love watching trips to the cabin! The timber plan seems to be coming along. For some reason these videos always make me hungry! Lol. Great video!
Sounds like a good time, enjoy it. I'll have to tell the Chairman to leave one of the "Go Time" hats in his work truck and give it to you next time you run across each other.
I did think last week whiterooks up for the weekend. Pleasant surprise today seeing this. Love you and Sean can spend quality time and just enjoy the times you have. Great stuff! One positive thing if you can get a couple bucks off of the logging. ….. new waders for camp cook
Glad you enjoyed it, was a good time spent together. Hoping for a buck or two in the pocket, and one or two on the deer pole. Cook is going for the Incredible Hulk look!
It's always an awesome surprise when I see the notification that you've put out a new video. Great tribute meal to senior and wow at those photos of the night sky! Very good to see your memorial day tribute, General Grant is a distant relative of mine. Prognosis Negative is from Seinfeld! Great video as always Tom!
Thanks Dan, I thought you would get the reference, I think I've seen some on your Twitter feed. Used a GoPro9 for the night shots, then punched them up with LightRoom. Not exactly what I wanted, but it's a work in progress. You could still see the Milkyway pretty clearly. Nice to hear that Grant was a distant relative yours. We wouldn't be where we are without him I think. Take care!
The dog was great, I don't think it barked one time the whole trip. As far as the timber, that's kind of what we were thinking, go for it and see what happens.
Another great video Rook! You won't regret get some of your timber harvested! The hunting will improve man fold for sure! You definitely have enough land to affect the deer / deer hunting if you go about it with a good plan. And just think of all the FREE firewood you'll be able to stack up from all the limbs!
Good video and good call on the timer. Thinning always helps things out with the deer population. The price of timber is also at a high price right now so a good time to cut.
Wont be for a while, will see what prices do. I thought I saw something they are already starting to come down a little. But what can you believe in the news these days. Hopefully the lots next to ours will have a positive impact this year if they get finished and get out of there in a reasonable time.
We were just up for a 4 day weekend last week. The holiday weekend 1 rained on our tin roof all the days but last. Still loved it. 1 bear a few terkeys. Love the cabin life
Another amazing trip to the cabin! Love these videos, they take me back to a better time! Keep pumping them out, its such a wonderful escape from this crazy world
Great video, always enjoyable & the Tribute to our Armed services was Really Great ...you got some deer running around that's good thing . Thanks for the videos
Awesome video! Really awesome seeing Denali back at the camp, last I remember seeing Denali at camp was when Sara’s car could make the hill up to camp on sintax channel
@@whiterook85 he is quite a well behaved dog too! Awesome video again, glad to see the camp just getting better and better for y’all! Take care, be safe!
That cigar guy reminded me of 2 cigar "factories" I used to frequent in jersey. Galileo in Union City, near the Holland Tunnel, and Farinas, in Perth Amboy. Galileos were as close as you could get to cuban Cohibas, and Farinas had a nice loose draw,.. kind of a rustic roll. Good times back then.........
Hey Tom, another very enjoyable Go Time video. Always enjoy how you bring us along with you. Those steaks looked great! The cabin looks good also. Nice to be getting those cell cam pics. Good luck with the lumbering decision. There is certainly benefits to harvesting the trees but sometimes it takes a while to see the results. Nice seeing Denali along for the trip……good dog right there. Looks like PA has really opened up the season on you guys. Very liberal doe tags and harvests seem to be on the agenda from the Fish and Wildlife. Obviously not interested in Bigger buck quality. Keep the videos coming. Enjoyed this one with a glass of Woodford and ice. Take Care!
We are doing pretty good with the deer, but I can tell it a lot of the same ones. That OK also, rather see something, than nothing. Will have to look about PA and doe, I think they just lengthened the season, but didn't add a doe to your tag without having to put in for one. That's everywhere else except PA. I'm sure the Woodford went down smooth.
Great video, hope the logging works out for you guys, Look forward to what you decide on doing. Just got back from my buddies cabin and had bad storms blow thru northern Michigan but still had a hoot as usual. Great hanging out with your bud from junior high, Lol
Really enjoy the videos and the content that you put out. Your videos gave me the drive to start my own RU-vid channel. Keep up the great content and I look forward to watching many more!! Might even cross paths someday as I'm not far from your cabin area!
@@whiterook85 I made a big life change about 6 months ago. Gave up 7 years of stress and 6 day work weeks in sales for shift work in the Johnson & Johnson plant in my city. I now work 3x12hr shifts per week, max 4 shifts for overtime. I have so much more free time to spend with my wife and son and zero stress from work. Clock in, clock out and have the freedom and headspace to enjoy life at home. It’s been a big eye opener to what is truly important in life.
another great video tom. wish i could go up to my camp, but don't want to fight the bugs, because they will pick u up and carry u away. we could never do what you just did this time of year way to bad
Wegmans are pretty much every year rated as the #1 super market in the country. Publix which are only found in southern states run neck and neck for the # 1 or 2 spot. Straubs brewery in St. Marys is about 30 miles from our camp near Driftwood. As for the deer situation, you will find that to be the case everywhere. Much of that stems from lack of hunters during the rifle season compared to years back. A few years back i took a ride on the first day of the season back to where i hunted on my first day 70 years prior. On my way back i drove north on rt 15 to Liberty, then 441 as far as Slate run. We had lunch at Wolfes store, we were the only ones there on the first day of buck. Most of the camps along 441 were empty. I have a friend who stays at the Slate run hotel for many years, as a rule he is the only one staying there even on the first day. We stopped for dinner at the Black Forest inn on rt 44, and again other than a couple people sitting at the bar, we were the only ones in the place, again the first day of buck. We see the same thing over in our area. By and large the camp owners in our immediate area still hunt most of the buck season, but very few others show up any more. As for the trees, they are a renewable resource, take the money when you can, you wont be hurting anything as for the hunting for sure. As for General Grant, not far from our camp there is a very small village named Grant on rt 555 about midway from Driftwood to Benezette. He used to fish there while staying in his private rail car. The locals would just walk up and talk with him. Before moving to Florida, for about 5 years i kept my camper trailer and my boat at the Steamboat landing marina/campground just north of Lewes Dl.
Hello Ernie, sorry it took so long to reply, was thinking of stopping at Wegmans again on a trip this Summer/Fall. Funny was also thinking of getting another case of Straub Lager (Green label) also. I know there are less guys hunting these days, but sometimes I wonder what Archery (namely Crossbow) during the rut has taken people away from the normal rifle season. I've seen an lot of pictures from that time frame. If hunting is way down in PA, why the same 1 buck limit? Most states have a lot more generous limits these days. Steamboat landing is only about 35-40 minutes South of my house. Take care!! Tom
Great video !! Timber companies have asked us to log some of our 200 acres in central PA for years but have never pulled the trigger on it . Our property has produced a lot of nice bucks over the years so we don't want to mess that up . Suggestion for breakfast that is very popular at our camp is pancakes and turkey gravy !! . Ever get up to Clearfield Co looks us up , be glad to have you at camp !!!
Thanks 👍!! That is a hard question to figure out if you're still getting good bucks on the property, seems like you still have the right mix. I'm always up for something new for breakfast, pancakes and turkey gravy sounds pretty good to me. Thanks Pete!
Timber harvest is great , allows undergrowth to shoot up , and other higher value trees to grow bigger , I would allow them to cut all property the same but allow them to only cut the mature trees and leave a oak here and there for acorn production, they cut anything above 20 inches on our land and it turned out good , allows for other trees to shoot up that didn’t get cut and also improves bedding areas and cover for deer to , and also makes a lot better trails , I would have them to cut all of the beech and then other trees cut anything above 20-25 inches around that way there is still a variety of oaks and whatnot
I would make sure they keep the logging roads clear after there done and in ur hunting spots have them move all the brush in a pile out the way , the logging is gana help so much starting next season and I would make sure they get the whole tree up until the tops branch out so they don’t leave any money behind that you can have
Great video man hope you get them big bucks on your camera got my cameras out to in Pennsylvania hopefully big buck show up they are starting to grow their antlers just letting you know
Great Job as always Tom. Appreciate the Lavazza Shout Out, I will pass along to the team. Still efforting a few other opportunities for you. You have really mastered that new grill for sure. Monte Cristo, Biscuits and Gravy, Steak and stuffed Potatoes. Careful or the guys will rename you CAMP COOK...
CampCook is taken, lol. Too much pressure, I might start burning everything including the coffee. We can't have that! Always enjoy the Lavazza, there or at home.
Another great one buddy. Always enjoy hearing about Senior and how you guys remember him. Looking forward to seeing what you guys end up doing with the property and logging, might make for some good grouse hunting also. The food looked excellent as well the cigars, that cigar chop looked huge and the roller demo was cool. Think I could smell the cigars. How was the drive up in the Wrangler? Always been fond of them but never drove in one. Regards Mark
Hey Mark, hope all is well in your neck of the woods. Like to mention a few things about Sr. here and there. I'm always afraid I'll run out of stuff, but something always seems to pop into my mind. Enjoyed the cigars, the shop inside isn't as big as it looks outside, a lot of storage area (they do online also), and I think they have a separate area to smoke, watch TV ets, The Wrangler was good riding up, a little loud with the soft top, but not unlike the wife's convertible MX5. Not Grand Cherokee smooth, but you can fit a lot in it with that squared off back end. Take care and enjoy the cottage this Summer!
Hey Rook! Love the videos and been keeping up on all of them. Let’s grab some coffee some time. I got some cigars for ya. Maybe Halls nears the railroad tracks? Hope all is well brother!
This video dropped out of Left Field LOL, Timbering has 2 effects, Negative in the short term, but Absolutely Positive in the long. Keep up with the content. You guys take care and be safe.
Ive been enjoying your videos for a little bit now, one thing that jumped out at me is the lack of bedding areas on your property. Id do some hinge cutting on a few acres, give the deer some security bedding cover. Another thing I would do is not to hunt those bedding areas the first couple of days of gun season, deer will figure out pretty quick where they wont be bothered. Maybe some throw and grow on the logging roads when they are done. Oh one more thing, how are you guys not 400lbs?!! So jealous of the way you guys eat!!!
We are missing some bedding area down the bottom, but they seem to bed down up top in the mountain laurel. We see them a lot in the area between the cabins that has a lot of laurel growing up. That is one thing I was going to ask the timber guy to see if he could do for us. We would definitely get some grass growing up on the logging roads once they are finished. We loving eating good while we are there, not quiet as good while we are at home, it's a balance (but I think I'm losing the war).
I used to go to Eureka Springs Arkansas where there was a Guy who would hand roll cigars. He would even print your initials on the labelI personally Prefer Avo Classic. No.3 or Robusto.
Curious to hear if your timber prices have gone up... structural lumber prices are insane, (though hasn't seem to reach the property owners or folks dropping the trees yet) but firewood/hardwood prices have remained pretty consistent. Anyways, how do I go about getting you boys some good Vermont beer for this upcoming season? Thanks for the video.
We haven't talked money with the Rep yet, but from what I understand only the sawmills are making extra cash. I could be wrong on that, but that's what I'm reading online. Let me know a few of your favorite brews and I will see if I can find them here.
@@whiterook85 There are a few good ones; Sip o' Sunshine from Lawsons, Heady Topper from the Alchemist, and a vet owned brewery called 14th Star that has a few different ones.... 11b, Tribute and a Maple Stout they sort of market as a breakfast beer. ;) Just let me know, happy to fire a few your way.
Thanks Andrew, will see if I can find any around here first. I know the shipping prices are out of hand these days. I have them on my Beer list note, thanks again!
I remember in the eighties the gypsy moths were terrible . My wife liked your idea for the baked potato. Good luck with your logging project . The piece of property I used to hunt was good but after they logged it , it was really good for a few years . If I remember correctly from a previous video you work for a telephone company ? I was wondering if you have retired yet ? If so I hope you get more time to enjoy the cabin and nature .
Hey Norman, they gypsys were really bad this year. Talked to someone up there now, they are still munching everything in site. Try the potato, the apple corer was only about $6 if you don't have one. Adds that baking in flavor to the potato. And yes, I use to work for the phone company, they changed names after the breakup, but Verizon is hanging in there for a while now. I retired back in "12", so I've had a lot of great years since. Thanks and more to come!
Sounds great, you should enjoy the taters, not limited to cheese and bacon. Stuff in anything you would enjoy with it. And thank you, I spoke with them yesterday.
had those gypsy moths in northern mn in the mid 80s. they killed trees and vegetation off for years. up there they called them army worms. got so bad in gilbert they had to plow the streets the worms were so thick people could not drive
It would William, but you need something to hold the bacon fat and melted cheese inside. Plus if you're having guests over it's a fun look on their plates.
Thanks for the well deserved salute to our vets also hopefully the harmful media spawned thinking that's been going on in this country will eventually rite its self , thanks .
Thanks Bruce, I saw that there was a new website to buy your license and tags, but was hoping PA would get with the program and let you print them out yourself.
Love the videos have you guys thought about having a wildlife biologist come out and survey the property versus a Forester that would be my recommendation you can check out individuals like Grant Woods from growing deer TV or Jeff Sturgis both have fantastic RU-vid channels we have Grant coming out this summer.
@@whiterook85 I'm not sure what the financials are as it relates to them coming out but Grant is affordable and knowledgeable, he won't complete the work but lay a plan out for you to complete with someone like a Forester. I've heard soany stories about foresters thinking more about trees vs wildlife which makes sense ... Two different jobs. No knock on them. They come in after a wildlife plan is set.
