I wasn't impressed. It's my least favorite episode, even though I didn't like Pickman's Model or Dreams in the Witch House because they weren't Lovecraft stories. I'm fine with slow pacing if the dialogue and story are compelling and this time, it wasn't. The drug scene where people keep saying it was "trippy" wasn't "trippy" at all. There were better scenes in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas or Pulp Fiction. I;m also not a fan of the style used where they hang on a close up for an awkward amount of time. The way the episode ended fell flat. It was walking in slow motion near the city and there was no reason to keep showing the other two racing away in the car. It would have been better served just showing the tail lights disappear into the darkness and have the thing walk down an ally TOWARD the city instead of past it. I have one more episode to watch. I hope this one is better. So far, I've only actually LIKED the first 3. The 4th was okay. 5 & 6 were disappointing because they completely rewrote the stories and just used familiar names in them.

SPOILER ALERT! One detail I noticed is how the two characters who were most reluctant to take Lionel's drugs, Randall (Eric Andre) and Charlotte (Charlyne Yi! 😍), are the ones who make it out alive. Terrified and traumatized, but alive. Perhaps something of a karmic reward for them resisting the temptation of hedonism? Plus, yeah, while the episode did feel overly simplistic storywise and overly long, the finale with the monster was certainly worth the wait. The scenes where the transformed Lionel screams at his/its own reflection and then wanders out of the drainpipe into a city will stay with me for a while. You're left wondering: how much of Lionel is still in there? Is the creature murderous, or merely struggling to control his/its power? What will he/it do now that he's/it's on the loose on Earth?

Loved this episode, simply for the ending. Felt like it was aiming for a Tarantino vibe with the slow build towards the third act which is where the story really took off. So divisive. For me this was the worst episode by a long stretch. I found it pretentious, all character development irrelevant and just swathes of style over actual solid substance. I enjoyed the immersive experience in that it was bold and different… but what was the point in developing the characters (of which I only mildly cared about 2) for this to be completely irrelevant with a (IMO) rubbishy naff not scary monster. The buildup suggested something much grander than the underwhelming payoff.
@user-zk7ew8pv8j
@user-zk7ew8pv8j 3 месяца назад
THe problem with this episode is that it doesnt make its goal clear. If this was meant as a character study, art haus, short film, then it achieves that goal brilliantly. Spot on. 10 out of 10. Full of subtext and metaphors and atmosphere.. But if it was meant as part of a "horror" anthology, where the audience would expect the horror to be the point, or at least a main ingredient, then it kind of wandered off topic and tossed in a little bit of horror at the end as an after thought. And that left people feeling a little... lost, as to what they should have expected. The characters were not characters but "types". Very typical medium, typical scientist, typical writer, musician.. But they represented an aspect of human interest, curiosity and creativity. So it wasnt like a deep dive into characters but more like a basic setup for something really interesting to come. And the first half of the episode is just hyping up the thing to come, the "item" we're all meant to be viewing. It is all setup, making us wonder, what kind of extraordinary thing a guy like this could have? A guy who has that whiskey, and this architecture and personal music made etc.. what kind of unique item excites him so much? All, long, admittedly interesting and well written setup, but still mainly setup. That didnt really pay off. We are hypes so much about the item, that an alien popping from an alien egg falls a bit flat, horror-wise. And all it does is kill or posess people? I at least expected something more mental, more fundamental to human interest, maybe something about giving into vices or something more relevant to the first half of the episode. When its just body horror and murder, it does feel a bit hollow and pointless. All built up with very meh and irrelevant pay off makes it feel a bit pointless

I loved it...till the last minute. Seemed very unfinished to me. All that buildup (fantastic buildup mind you) to finally see the creature, see it assimilate and go...into the sewer. The End. My wife and I both went WTF? She absolutely was pissed and thought we wasted the time. I can't argue. The cast was amazing, the set design, the idea...all wonderful. But my god that was an underwhelming finish. Very unsatisfying! ("That's what she said..." - Michael Scott)

It was without a doubt the worst piece of "horror" I've ever seen in my life. A pointless plot that takes way too long to get where it's going for absolutely no payoff. It wasn't scary. I felt absolutely nothing watching it besides that it was made by a pretentious director trying far too hard to be unique and different, to ultimately accomplish nothing of substance. It's a rock. The monster moves so incredibly slowly that its barely a threat to anything. The only people who even tried to escape did, easily. Absolutely pointless episode that actually managed to annoy me for wasting an hour of my life.

Next to the autopsy this is my favorite of the series. The complete series was very good, it put me in mind of Masters of Horror that was a lot alike. I don’t really feel like the RU-vid guy broke it down very good though, seems like he repeated what he said- I thought it was cool but not a lot of feelings and gave it 8.8 which is fair and what he got from it. I thought it had a lot of “feeling” and meaning. I really like the director of episode 7 he did Mandy also was dope, but if you can’t appreciate his style I think you’ll be lost anyway. 9.3 for me. Maybe you should watch Mandy and rewatch the viewing, check out the director’s style and then you can do a decent review bubby

The ending was so disappointing! You should write these kind of stories from the (hopefully) clever ending backwards. The writers here had a cool premise but didn’t know what to do with it. Have they never seen The Twilight Zone? Or even Tales from the Crypt for crying out loud. This was a seriously wasted opportunity, but the first 2/3rds is absolutely masterful.

Ep7 was soooo bad, dont know how anyone enjoyed it. I dont care if the basic dialogue and characters were intentional for some theme or metaphor, it was incredibly boring to watch and then we get a random ass alien at the end. What a waste of time. I won't be a dick and dislike the video but i will give you some engagement by telling you that i think you're off base here. Panos seems to be really good at suggesting really huge ideas underlying the events of the film without explicitly confirming anything with an expectation that the viewer can make some plot leaps on their own, don't need their hands held and with some subtle contextual inferences, your imagination can run wild where exposition would set limits on something thats scarier or more interesting as undefined.
