Cabinet welcomes gazetting of new visa regime

This week Minister of Home Affairs Leon Schreiber officially gazetted two groundbreaking visa system reforms, the Remote Work Visitor Visa and a new Points-Based System for Work Visas.
The aim of the visa reforms is to attract international skills, investment, grow tourism and create jobs.
According to Schreiber, some of the visa reform elements amount to the single most progressive and pro-jobs regulatory reform South Africa has seen in decades.
This comes as the government experienced severe visa backlogs.
To talk more on this, we are joined virtually by Stefanie de Saude-Darbandi, Director and lawyer of De Saude Darbandi Immigration attorneys.

Ah yes, the government truly outdid itself this time. Convincing South Africans that their own unemployment is a minor inconvenience compared to the pressing need to roll out the red carpet for European job recruits? That is award-winning logic, worthy of a standing ovation - if only anyone had the jobs to afford the tickets.

We cannot employ our own but we are looking to employ migrants how sad these people are not sensitive to our own. We have a lot of teachers that are unemployed and why not push individuals within the country to learn those skills.

That’s what happens when the masses keep voting Democracy, floods classrooms,destroys education and sits on its hands! After Brink I’ve lost all sympathy for the black man, just like every city and township it’s clear that there is nothing anyone can do to uplift you, that African culture of mahala I believe has turned every tax payer away! 30 years and nothing has happened we’ve only increased social welfare!

Bro..we have over supply of teachers and social workers but they still wanna bring more foreigners into the country. We already have more foreigners in the country.... Honestly we need a government with balls . Government that put its citizens 1st

This woman explanation does not make sense at all.. "Bringing immigrants to create more jobs..."whilst SA has high levels of its citizens unemployed... Doesn't make sense... 😮😮

She lost me once she argued that bringing in teachers and social workers - who we have an oversupply for, would be a net gain for the economy. I mean sure, if they were in undersupply and we were losing productivity, although they mainly work in NGO and Public sector.

@bvovz The department of education has a shortage of qualified Maths teachers this is why there is a poor performance in maths. Without maths and science most matriculants cannot do degrees that require these subjects leaving to a shortage of highly qualified engineers technicians etc and these have to be attracted from other countries. South Africa has a shortage of STEM teachers (science, technology, engineering and maths) If someone has a teaching degree and is sitting at home and cannot teach these subjects above, unfortunately they will remain unemployed. Their skills do not meet the vacancy requirements.

She forgot that no teacher or social worker earns R650K annually. One of the requirement for such critical skill visa is that the person must have a employment contract and earn R650k per year 😂

@ntombzanelediale7693 There aren't enough qualified STEM [Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics] in South Africa. That why the kids are failing maths and very few are going to University and doing qualifications that require maths and paid very well. This shortage of skilled South Africans is created in the duration system at school. There are many people doing a teaching degree but very few of them can teach Maths and science. Most who graduate with an education degree do not even have maths at Matric. Do you want your child being taught maths busy someone who didn't do or pass maths at school?

If you want people in yr country you don't need more conditions, this conditions still hard, better i go to Zim,Botwhana etc... no stories just be present with yr passport you get what you want within weeks, SA still didn't restrict some visas difficulties let see if this investors will visits SA and spend their billions in the SA restaurants. ..
