@@agustinfuldain5017 lol yeah, especially how the scene of him asking his mom when he’s “going to get a little brother to play with” connect And she says “that’s what I’m working on right now. Here I’ll turn on the baby setter (TV)” as she’s leaving. At the end Broderick’s character: “You don’t have to do this!!” As cable guy’s holding his hand and pulls himself up to say “Somebody has to kill the baby setter” and lets go to kill all the TV signals. That movie is a very underrated dark comedy.
@@Eric666morse lol you're right. I didn't notice it,, i thought it was just another american tv show reference that i don't get because i'm not american haha it really makes sense. Great movie totally
Honestly, younger audience wouldn't get to see that much on reruns on TV. I saw it in cinema when it came out and really liked it and hell I was surprised by it but I still think it's not one of the Carrey movies that a lot of people go back to or even think it's worth watching. So yeah, I think the title si fine.
as a kid, I really thought audience members could participate in Medieval Times...so when my aunt takes us in 98, I was hyped as hell and hoping to get picked, only to find out you couldn't get picked
Was with my kids at an indoor play park awhile ago and they had a jousting pit, there's no way my 8 year old knew what i was referencing as we battled but it was fun
I've been quoting the line "is there a problem with your service?" completet with the lisp ever since this movie came out. I loved it back then and i love it today...I'm 40 now.
This movie is absolutely brilliant and a thoughtful examination of what exactly does friendship mean, where exactly are the appropriate boundaries for it, and how far are some people willing to go to obtain it? One of my favorite quotes from The Polar Express is when Santa says "there's no greater gift than friendship", which is true in my opinion. This movie takes that line to the extreme absurd deep end but is still very relatable if you've ever had somebody enter your life who desperately wanted to be your friend, but you didn't feel like reciprocating at the time - especially if their actions set off red flags for you.
To this day, this is hands down my favorite Carey movie/performance. I quote to this movie whenever I can. This introduced me to Medieval Times. His rendition of Somebody to Love is classic
This movie is absolute genius, its deeper than you think. Everything Chip says in the satelite dish came true! I am currently typing this while playing Mortal Kombat with a friend in Vietnam.
"Bumblebee Tuna, Bumblebee Tuna. Ace Ventura, Pet Detective, how are you doing this afternoon? Allllll righty then. Hey pal, you balls are showing. Bumblebee Tuna." ~ Ace Ventura
I don't care what anyone says, that rhino scene is one of the funniest things I think I've ever seen in a movie. I can die laughing everytime I watch it, and the rest of the movie is pretty funny also, not sure why it's "lame" tbh.
Saw The Cable Guy in the theatre when i was a 17yo lad and instantly fell in love with it. It's endlessly quotable and infinitely re-watchable. It's probably my favorite Carry film. Thanks for giving it the credit it deserves.
Imagine being six and going to the movies to watch The cable guy because you watched Ace Venture and The Mask. I begged my mom to see it. After watching it my mom was like that movie was not for kids. 😂
This is definitely under rated. I always felt that Ben Stiller should have just starred instead of Matthew Broderick. It would have been a massive improvement.
VERY underrated movie. I remember being one of the few people that liked ‘The Cable Guy’ back in 1996. If I recall, there was a segment of Jim Carrey fans that didn’t want to see him play a bad guy in a comedy. They wanted more physical humor like Ace, Dumb & Dumber, and The Mask. I actually think The Cable Guy underperforming ruined Carrey’s comedy career as he never explored that dark side again. He went to safe comedies like Liar Liar or pure drama in the 00’s. What’s ironic is The Cable Guy is his last great comedy for me. The problem is he was a Star by then so he had to play to the masses who didn’t like that character after that.
Watched this for the first time today and I love it. Love how metaphoric it is. Had no idea Ben Stiller directed it. He did a phenomenal job. My favorite quote from the film is when Jim's character, Chip said "I'm teaching you a lesson. I can be your best friend or your worst enemy."
I was 12 when I saw this in theaters, during its second weekend in SDDS (Sony Dynamic Digital Sound) 8-Channel!!! I still love this flick back then. And now as an adult, not only I admire the creativity of Ben Stiller's direction, but Jim Carrey took this performance up to 11!! Also, since Chris mention Bob Odenkirk (pre-Better Call Saul) he didn't mention these actors in Cable Guy has cameos: David Cross, Kyle Gass from Tenacious D, Andy Dick, Janeane Garofalo, Eric Roberts, Joel Murray (Bill Murray's brother), Annabelle Gurwitch (TBS's Dinner and a Movie), Former MTV host Tabitha Soren, Sean Whalen (the "Aaron Burr"guy from Got Milk commercial), Amy Stiller (Ben Stiller's sister) and Judd Apatow!!
Perfect title for me. I've always heard of this as a slight dip in Carrey's career. Definitely going to check it out! See how it holds up 25 years later. Great video!
If it was the early 2000s, Ben Stiller may've played Broderick's part and Jack Black may've played Carrey's part, since Black became alot less serious and more goofy by then, with roles like Shallow Hal, Orange County, and School of Rock, which all came out between 2000 and 2004. Cable Guy came out in 1996 and Jack Black hadn't found his comedy style yet, and was much more serious in this movie than in those later movies.
I agree that the Cable Guy is not a family friendly film. But to hear Ace Ventura and Liar Liar described as family friendly movies is a bit of a head scratcher.
I actually thought the medieval fight scene was pretty weak. But the basketball scene had me on the floor laughing. Carrie's face when he does the dunk was almost too much for me
LOVED this movie since I was a kid. I was concerned that my taste would have changed, so I rewatched it in the last couple years. It's in my top 3 favorite movies of all time.
Not only did I see this when it came in the theater out but I went with my dad after begging him to take me! I was 14 and a Jim Carrey fan since in living color and Matthew Broderick fan and still use the lesson of that movie that to much of anything in life can be bad even television! This is my favorite Jim Carrey movie hands down!
Wth, who didn't see the cable guy, literally one of Jim Carries most iconic films. If you were alive in the 90's and had a television, then you saw the cable guy at some point.
I watched movie. The movie is good I think the problem was, they didn't clear up when they promotes the show that the genre is a suspense movie. People back then when they heard Jim Carrey means comedy movie. So I was disappointed at the beginning but I realized that Jim wants to showcase his another talent of acting.
Loved it when I saw it in the theater, love it today. Always thought it was a hit since it was always in my and my friend’s repertoire. Wasn’t until much later did I find out that only a few of us out there loved this movie.
My wife and I love this movie, we watch it all the freaking time. There was a 4 to 6 month period about 2 years ago when we probably watched this movie almost every fucking day. And we still throw it on once a week probably. The magnificent 7, Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter, The Cable Guy, Trainspotting, & a couple others. TCG rlly holds up for an early 90's film. And looking back at his entire career, Jim Carrey has a really broad scope of genres and styles he has starred in. Hes a very impressive thespian and I truly appreciate his dedication to his body of work. He also has one hell of a BEARD nowadays.. LoL
I'll always remember this movie. Not because it was brilliant or that the performances were great. It's because I was about 17 when this came out and my uncle, who managed a theater, let me in for free. I was a Jim Carrey fanboy as a teen and this movie let me down back then. I've seen it since, and it's not so bad. Kinda like it.
My favorite scene in the movie CABLE GUY. the scene where Matthew Broderick was in jail and Jim Carrey's character show up pretending to be a lawyer. And put his nipples on the glass between them and says kiss it. And says oh Billy. It's a homage to the movie MIDNIGHT RUN.
I remember the marketing for The Cable Guy, and Jim Carrey was right. They marketed it completely the wrong way. That was why it kinda low-key bombed. I watched The Cable Guy for the first time about two years after it came out. I LOVED it! It's a great dark comedy.
This movie has tenacious d and saul Goodman. And the movie itself is amazing. The ending scene (you need to kill the babysitter) is still one of my favorite movies ever
