WTF Happened to VAL KILMER?

In our latest WTF series, we take a look at some of our favorite stars and filmmakers who have seemingly disappeared or altered their careers over the years to the point that begs the question; WTF happened? Now, before you think we're just picking on celebrities or running some gossip rag stuff, think again! We take a fun (and sometimes funny), researched and fair approach, looking at all angles that led our subject to wherever they are now (which isn't necessarily a bad place at all). If anything, it answers the question on where these fine folks went, how they got there and where you can find 'em now.
In this episode we look at the career of the Iceman himself, Val Kilmer! Kilmer broke onto the scene with the comedy flicks TOP SECRET! (see our Best Movie You Never Saw of that HERE) and REAL GENIUS before taking flight with Tony Scott's TOP GUN. From there, Kilmer took up the sword as Madmartigan in WILLOW before landing a stream of great roles throughout the 90s, including THE DOORS, THUNDERHEART, TOMBSTONE, BATMAN FOREVER, HEAT, THE GHOST AND THE DARKNESS and THE SAINT. While he never had another era as strong as that, Kilmer dipped in and out with some really solid work, including the criminally underrated THE SALTON SEA, WONDERLAND, SPARTAN and of course, KISS KISS, BANG BANG. From there, things got a little hazy for Kilmer and his health took a turn for the worse. He popped up here and there, working with TOP GUN's Tony Scott again in DEJA VU, started playing Mark Twain on stage, did some voice-over work, some TV appearances and even made a lesser-known flick with Francis Ford Coppola called TWIXT. While not everything he's done in his later years is as strong, credit is due to Kilmer for remaining a consumate professional in his craft and fighting through his own health scares to continue doing what he loves, even getting a return to the franchise that started it all for him, TOP GUN: MAVERICK. Here's to you, Val Kilmer...you can be our wingman anytime!

The sad thing is he was never fat he was just going through treatment for cancer and that makes you puff up, literally. Man I love Val Kilmer. He's always captivated me, in every incarnation. He still does. It's heartbreaking what the treatment for throat cancer did to his beautiful voice. But the fact that he can still speak and he is still here with us is definitely something to be thankful for.

The cancer rates are a shame, a reflection of a society ran by greed and a lack of empathy for all life. Vitamin b-17 was found to cure and prevent cancer, it disappeared from American shelves once this was discovered, no money in it for big greedy pharma, a crime against all humanity is right before our eyes, the illusion is so vast few see it and the ones that do are thought to be crazy conspiracy theorists. Well played, you greedy bastards, your grandchildren will hate you for destroying their future for your own gain. Its hard to imagine why anyone would think this way and cause so much suffering for their own gain. Profits that they will take to the grave, if they haven't bought their way out of death somehow. Its a shame how shameless they are. We can only hope that their children won't succumb to the same brainwashing and continue the destruction for profit method. I for one can not believe anyone would allow this to go on. The world is breaking my heart, but it will never break my spirit.
@infiniteadam7352
@infiniteadam7352 3 года назад
@@deeznutz4962 bitter apricot seeds are full of b-17, take them it stops cancer, also look up the gerson Institute in Mexico, it is in Mexico because the USA will not have any alternative methods of dealing with cancer, big pharma has faught hard to protect its bottom line, which is to make profits. B17 was discovered long ago, as soon as it was proven to prevent and reverse cancer it was taken off the shelves here. Big Pharma funded all the schools and have changed the way doctors are taught. The system has been compromised, you go to them to heal and what do they give you? Poison right? Did they tell you about B17? Of course not, that would give your body the tools it needs to fight for itself. We all have cancer, everyone of us, but our bodies get rid of it, your body stopped doing that because it can't without the right tools. Even if you take their poison, give yourself a chance to fight, let food be thy medicine, get educated on that and save yourself, it takes a lifestyle change to keep cancer at bay. Vegans get way less cancer than meat eater, that is a fact, learn for yourself why that is. Save yourself then show others how you did it. Big pharma runs the show, anything that will help you that doesn't make them money has been supressed, don't be a victim, be cause and not effect, cure yourself then do your part for humanity and help others get the education that is forbidden by a few greedy men with no empathy for the lives of us all. Be the change this world desperately needs. When enough of us do our part we may change the trend. In 1950 1 in about 10 people got cancer in the US, now its 1 in 3 or 4, whats it going to be by 2030, 1 in 2 according to the trend, 2040? We may be wiping ourselves out by the end of this century and we seem to be bent on taking every fish in the sea, every acre of rainforests, every animal species besides ones we eat, and even the clean air with us. It madness and the trend of saving everything starts right here with each one of us. We will be the generation of man that decides if life on earth has a future or not. We can't keep fighting poison with poison, its foolish, dangerous and down right stupid. Like drinking drainO to cure constipation stupid. You need to heal, we all need to heal ourselves and then heal the earth. How we are educated is how we change this, people like you and me have to educate ourselves then find a way to share it with everyone, get them doing the same thing. It is up to us, the people, the ones with all the money and power are obsessed with gaining more and more money and power, that is why things are the way they are today. We have to change, all we can do is be the change we know the world needs, be part of the solution in our day to day lives, and the opportunity to inspire others will come. Feeling Great and living right are contagious things, all people are basically good, we are all born loving and caring for others, and we all want a better world with less suffering, believe me we all hate suffering, when we see and hear of others doing great we all think about how we wished we felt that way, but so many people just don't know how, its true that we become like the closest people around us, that means that our own personal growth can influence those around us, and they influence the people around them and on and on. So please take care of yourself, your body first, then you will have the energy to take care of your mind and spirit. If bad health habits are subconscious and hard to change, then make yourself learn something new about how to prevent cancer everyday, it took me doing this 6 months after I lost both my Grandpa's, after doing research and learning for 6 months one morning I woke up like any other day and all the sudden I couldn't eat food that wasn't going to serve my body with energy and nutrition, my subconscious changed and I didnt have to force myself to change a thing, you may need to make changes today because of your weakened immune system but there is no greater motivation than cancer, order the bitter apricot curnals today, actually google what has the most b17 in it, i believe that is correct, but make sure, its been 4 years since I read about them. Some seeds are full of cyanide so do some research before ordering but do that right away, no time to spare. Learn all you can, and get yourself detoxed from the poison chemicals that I am sure are abundant within you, the Gerson Institute is perfect for that, go there, get healthy and begin living a life of purpose, the very reason you are here, to bring your Love and Light to this world and to leave this world in better shape than you found it! We all share this purpose we just forgot, perhaps you are the messenger ment to remind them....You Got This! Get started right now!

@@infiniteadam7352 There you said it "no empathy". Through personal experiences i was confronted for years with people suffering disorders as narissism, sociopathy, psychopathy. I seemed to attrack them being an easy going person and all. I had to make a study of the topic to take on the psychological damage they did but also to learn to spot them better so i can protect myself. This study has made it quite easy to spot them. Now a world is opening in front of my eyes as is so with many victims. A world we never really could see. 'Normal' people in the world, even some of the crazy ones... we're all victims of people with those disorders. I understand now what they mean when religious people speak of the battle between good & bad. It's actually the battle between malignently disoerded people vs everybody else...

Agreed. His voice is permanently gone, though. He has a mechanical voice box and a tracheotomy tube. It’s especially sad because his voice was just...dead sexy, sensitive, precise, confident, expressive. He sang beautifully. I loved him in everything he did, even the bad movies (looking at you, Kill Me Again!) But Tombstone, Real Genius, and Wonderland are probably my favorites. Oh, and True Romance! Small but very significant role. I thought he was probably the best looking man EVER, but his talent was even more impressive.

Val kilmer: plays a different person in every film Tom cruise: playing the same person since the 1990’s Edit: its funny how by this statement many people assume that I’m implying that Tom Cruise is a bad actor or incapable of playing any other character, which I am not. The only thing I’m implying is that Tom Cruise is beating a dead horse with his characters. Do his movies draw in a crowd, yes, however, when will he stop playing a super spy? He is about to be 60. Do I watch his Mission Impossible movies? Yes but mainly to see the new characters like Jeremy Renner and Henry Caville.

I had the same type of throat cancer as Michal Douglas did. While it was no picnic, it's much easier than other types of cancer. Six weeks of chemo and radiation and it's gone usually. Eighty percent cure rate but also has a good chance of a very bad relapse. I was cancer free about two months when two different doctors confirmed my cancer was back and not happy. They both told my sisters that with treatment I'd live...about 9 months. Without treatment I'd be dead in 3 months. No one told me anything but I sensed something was off. My suspicions were confirmed when my Pastor said he wanted to do an anointing ceremony on me. He told me what the doctors had said. I agreed to do the anointing. The anointing is when a Pastor puts some oil on your head and traces out a cross in it. The anointee is surrounded by a group of men and the Pastor leads them in prayer asking Jesus for divine intervention to heal the anointee of their illness or affliction. For this to work, every person involved has to believe it will work without a doubt. Counting me. there was 12 people. It also has to meet God's will. It can't be done for selfish reasons. Looks like we did it right. That was about 2 years ago and I'm still here. I'm still recovering. The radiation scared my throat and caused my tongue to swell on the right side and killed a few taste buds. All in all I'd say I am 95% healed up. Prople scoff at me sometimes when I tell them about my miracle. If only ome doctor had had told me I was going to die and I didn't then yes he could have mistaken. I had 2 doctors from 2 different hospitals in 2 different states tell me the same exact thing. I chose to believe in my miracle. I give all the praise and glory to God.
@NotaVampyre111
@NotaVampyre111 Год назад
@Deco Electra It has been my experience that all prayers are answered but not in the way we might expect them. The Bible also says He will provide for our needs. Many people pray for what they want, confusing a want with a need. I'm not saying you're doing this. Sometimes the answer is no. Sometime the answer shows up right away or decades later. God has His own time clock and it is vastly different than our own. Just remember that he loves us. He has a plan. He is returning very soon. No one knows when but the events leading up to it are already in motion. Time is very very short.

Cruise did well in Born on the 4th of July, Magnolia, Collateral, Eyes Wide Shut..he can show some range, but most times he reverts to safer ground. Kilmer, for me, has some better acting chops, and, conversely, does not play it safe. His versatility and range are impressive. Great work in Kill Me Again, The Doors, Tombstone, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Heat, Felon...In some cases, he's better than the material. Glad to hear that Kilmer is doing better, health wise. Always been a fan.

As an adult I have fallen in love with his movies. He is completely vulnerable in it. I don’t think he was a ‘difficult’ actor, there were things he was dealing with during those seasons in his life. He was served divorce papers out of the blue on set for goodness sakes. Val should’ve won an Oscar for tombstone!

Heat is a perfect example of Val’s dedication. There’s one quick scene when Val reloads his CAR-15 while taking cover behind a car. He was so accurate and precise with his gun handling, SWAT teams used that same scene to show how to reload quickly and efficiently while under cover. Everything about Heat is painfully accurate as far as how to SWAT teams and Spec Ops move as a team in a combat situation. Larry Vickers, one of the most famous and prolific Delta operator, praises the movie for just how good the combat scenes are. One of the best action movies of all time and Val Kilmer is a huge reason why it’s so good.

Like all of us, Val just got old and he got sick too. He’s still an incredible actor.

@Jon Bishoff And can you remind me of the Nicolas Cage movie where he was “outstanding?” For Matthew McConaughey, all I can think of is Interstellar.

He's the kind of actor who elevates any movie he's in. I've got nothing but love and respect for the Iceman.

As a vocalist, I can appreciate the deep emotional pain that it must have caused him to lose his voice to throat cancer. But he seems like he navigated that part of his life with an amazing amount of courage, tenacity, and even humor.

He caught the eye in every scene in every movie he was ever in. An engaging man who magnified every role he played until it became a memorable movie because he was in it, no matter who he was sharing the script with. “Thanks for being there, Doc’.”

He nailed that Doc Holiday role & Real Genius was really cool. "I'm your Huckleberry" has probably immortalized the Doc Holiday scene. "Why....your No Daisy it all"

Except Batman/Bruce Wayne. Wasn't too good with the duality, and an Emo/Angsty Bruce Wayne was just cringey. He would have done a better job with the Lighthearted/Campy Adam West style.

I literally had no idea about anything like that, for example about Val Kilmer & his behind-the-scenes attitude on the set of 'Batman Forever' at 9:39-9:52.

I thought that when in the movie The Lost Boys,in the cave,they showed a poster of Jim Morrison in the background. I honestly did think they should make a movie with him as Morrison.

@Ghostee6 1. Just to mention again how superb an actor he is, in the movie "THE DOORS" , while portraying the Legendary Jim Morrison, he actually sung the lyrics to all of the songs that he performed in the Oliver Stone directed picture. He really bring Jim Morrison back to life.
