the resistor switching. Controll the throttle THE OLD FASHION WAY. Simply put you have resistors in series and paralel combination switched (the noise) to the desired throttle setting. The noise happens because the switching is controlled via a pneumatic motor that rotates a metal disk that has various cut outs arranged so that the trottle goes up or down when rotating. Esentially plain simple potentiometer but not smooth. It switches resistors in and out. Many czechoslovakian locomotives use the same concept mostly DC powered locomotives such as the 141 121 and almost all older locomotives. The few AC system locomotives that use switching but mostly not resistors but transformer taps(because efficiency) are the 242 240 230 and I bet there are more. The only one multi system locomotive (can run both DC 3kV and AC 25kV) is the class 350 that has a resistor network to regulate throttle also done almost the same way as I explained up there.
This is a traction controller. It sets the starting steps. This works only in one direction of rotation. Not Forward and Backward. Depending on when the driver stops starting, the controller continues to the starting point without a traction current. We, the Czech drivers, say .... tchadadamtamtchadadamtamtchadadam ... :-D
Lookfromlok Is it only in Czech Republic that they use this system or does it apply to all country's with electric locomotives?... I made it my ringtone for my cell phone, it gets A LOT of attention..
@@ricardomierz8467 I do not know where the traction control system is still in use. I do not follow it. In the Czech Republic, these machines ended in September this year. Two pieces of these machines will be preserved for occasional nostalgic rides.
