On this episode I do a little CAD (cardboard aided design) work on the fox body mustang hot rod build.
Welcome to The Fab Forums. My name is Kyle Voss and I produce Custom Motorsports Fabrication content of all forms for you. Carbon Fiber, TIG Welding, Metal Shaping, Hot Rods, Muscle Cars, Custom Choppers, and everything in between. I work hard to bring you new content on a weekly basis.
Here are some of the builds you can find on this channel.
I have built several Chevy trucks on this channel. The first was my 1964 C10 named Crown Spoyal and the most recent C10 truck project was the 1969 I currently have named the Black Pearl.
I am also finishing up a custom twin turbo Ford Mustang build I call the Gray Goose. It’s a 400 cubic inch Windsor style engine with twin 70mm turbos. I am hoping to make around the 1000 horse power mark to the tires on this particular build.
Last but not least is the one off custom hot rod build called the Bibbster. This is what I call a modern day hot rod. It’s made from an old Ford Mustang foxbody, but made to look like an old school open wheeled hot rod.
I also feature other fabricators and shops like Cutworm Specialties hand formed aluminum wide body kit for a BMW e46. Jeb Greenstone has also built a twin turbo, coyote powered model A style hot rod from scratch, and is currently building a Toyota TE72 wagon drift car powered by a 1UZ Lexus v8. Jeb’s custom fabrication skills are fun to watch and always make for good videos.
Check out my playlist to see some or all of these builds.

Its funny, I'm an auto design engineer for a company that supplies the OEs out there and we have all of the CAD software out there but we always start out with your style of CAD. Its the best, cheapest, fastest way to make prototypes. We take the arts and crafts cardboard upstairs and then Model it up to cut from steel. Great job!

Nothing to do with this episode but to profusely thank you. I'm beginning a frame off on my Jeep. Part of which is a new dash and custom one of wiring. Being in the NE i want to use all marine grade wire, switches and connectors. Many times you have mentioned going back for info on your videos. I vaguely remembered a Friday Fools you did on connectors. Sure enough a couple of years go there it is. Exactly what I needed. Along with so many others I'm so impressed with your attention to detail, I hope to make you proud. Thanks again.

If you ever need large sheets of heavier cardboard, try going to your local Sam's Club or Costco. Ask the manager if you can have some of the sheets that come on pallets between the layers of product. I've done this a number of times and they're fine with it. It actually saves their stockers from having to collect them since most customers just push them aside. The sheets are usually 40" x 48" and 1 or 2 plies thick.

If you score the board with a ball point pen, or pizza cutter the fibers of the board won't break when you put the folds in and will hold its shape better, and won't crack

Whoa....the cold air is gonna come in thru rear side widows... That is very nice.!! If you're gonna put speakers in that, you might think about a small box on each side (on the inside) so when you mount the speakers they sit into a box, so any rain or water can't get into the backside of your speakers, also then you can use sound material in the boxes. I'm not being an arm chair fabricator, just trying to save you time so you don't have to backtrack later.

Hey yo, daddy'o! I admire your dedication! Building house, shop, move stuff, decide what has to stay, and what to go. I just moved to a new appartement with the better half, here in december. It's actually a lot of work - we ALL know that. I have only been at the workshop for storage, the last few months.. And you're still uploading! And doing a great job. There is a lot of hours, just in the CAD work. Just thinking, 'cause some one said, that plexy, acrylic, whatevah, would be nice to showcase the work on the rear sounds as a great idea. I remember you saying, that you want to showcase your fab skills. But! Useually you do things to be easy to work on. Now, I trust the cooler, but if you need to take it out? Cant figure out how the room is underneath. Point is, if the plexi, acrylic was removeable? Easy to get out? Don't know, compared to the shafts.. Great content, and I'll be back in the shop soon. Got a hoist! Let me know if you want some snaps of the project updates! :) Cheers!

So Im trying to understand which way the air will travel through your rad Kyle.Are you using your side windows as intakes and have a fan under your rad to draw the air through? What about making more rounded speaker boxes ,this will bring the slightly curved panels of the fox body into the dynamic .You dont want it to look so boxy because it does have curvy . The guy down below already made a cute remark about fox ears.Cheers man!.Lou

yeah the air will come in through the side windows and down through the radiator. I will be running dual puller fans on the bottom
@glassblastcollision
@glassblastcollision 5 лет назад
Yeah that should work well and the properties of the aluminum itself as it will act as a heat sink on top of the air movement with the fans to collect and dissipate engine heat! I have two fans mounted behind Civic rads in the cowl just in front of my fire wall . I hope with all the Aluminum I have, I'm not going to be sweating my balls off in the cockpit. Time will tell.

I liked the initial shroud pattern shown at 3:22 for the Low Profile look better...the final results appears too angular IMO. I feel that a NACA style duct mounted in the quarter window with some flexible ducting feeding air to the radiator shroud would give it more of an authentic "Race Car" look to it. It would also look more aerodynamic/streamlined with added rearward vision over the rear deck.

Hey can you tell me if more fans are done with tig or mig? I'm about to buy and I'd rather know what direction would be a better option on a whole.

Dwight 1971 - Look at combo machines. There are many out there that do MIG, TIG, and even arc welding from one welding machine. Check out The Fabrication Series on RU-vid - ru-vid.com/show-UCcxlBLmujrjTVSSUkzZ2Jlg - for information about the combo welders; Justin has many combo welders that he uses

Just a thought... Instead of a rear view mirror, what about using a camera and a large IPAD like screen? Not just for backing up but you could use it to see out the back...

I WOULD imagine that, with this kind of build, a modern screen would seem outta place. It's so raw and maskuline, but just my take on it. I would rather stick to side mirrors with this one, if hevs not going to use a rearview. :)

I have thought about that. Will most likely have some kind of screen for speedometer

haven't you think about making it all from acrylic glass ??? you could even make a roof scoop so there is even more air flow and it would be see through ... might look cooler to see the cooler and not only some aluminium sheets ...
