The image quality is definitely not as good, I couldnt read the license plates in the garage, hell I almost couldnt see em. I agree this would only be good for that certain size quad.

Agreed. Also, if you shave down most of the aluminum case on the DJI camera, you can already save 4g. (Pedantic note... JB meant 75/85mm wheelbase, not props.)

Finally somebody managed to make dji fpv look like analog again :D I don't understand the point tho.. A top notch micro fpv system with 450 mw can be less then 4gramms. I don't see a point in adding 20 gramms for a picture that isnt really better. I rather take the performance increase

This seems exaggerated, though the nebula is significantly worse than the dji camera it's probably still on another level compared to analog. It would be interesting for someone to do the comparison with a top quality analog camera though.

@@obesesoldier1 no it's really not in my honest opinion, it's only slightly better then analog and if I were building a micro then I d definitely go with analog and anything bigger I would just use the dji camera because it's such a huge difference in quality. I've had mine for about 2 weeks and I'm changing it out for the spare dji camera I have, i just need to get the cable to hook them up first.

I switched the lens on the nebula with the one on my runcam nano racer and it solved a huge part of the problem I still get a bit of a halo on bright lights but the rest of the image is much clearer

I am actually currently flying the nebula micro which came with the fpvcrate this month. As I’m also only analog these days I just stuffed the cam in my 5 inch analog quad just to see how it would feel latency wise etc. And so far I actually like it as an analog camera.

Idk why DJI even associated with Caddx. Any subsequent cameras to the original should be the same or better.

For 3" and 4" sub-250g builds this makes sense since you have a fixed weight liimit and you are able to carry the weight. E.g., I have a 3" 6S setup with 1408's that's sub 250g. Currently I use 450mAh 6S lipos and Vista with it and it's barely sub 250g. To be able to run it with the GNB 550mAh's (to give a bit more oomp to the 1408's) I would need to use the Nebula instead. Haven't tried it yet, but I might.

Thank you as ever as have been going mad!! Just got my DJI system and built a UMA 95x felt like sending the goggles back as with both the limitations of CE and the poor quality image and not knowing that options are limited in the camera I was really disappointed. At the moment the DJI are not living up to expectations

Hey Joschua, for me the nebula is an option. now I can use a DJI system on my CMW Smooth. Otherwise you only have 19mm space for the camera

I personally like to print my own 3D frames with nylon x so this was a huge plus just because it was a nano size. I now have a 75 mm hd whoop, ftw!

The image kind of looks like the bytefrost level of quality which isnt terrible but after switching to all dji hd in my quads it just falls a little to short for me.

There is a new improved hardware version of this exact camera. Albert Kim has one and it looks WOAH better! I hope you get to try this and the new DJI 50Mbit mode soon!

Great review! I’ve come to like my Nebula a fair bit in my TransTEC Beetle for flying but there is definitely a big difference in image quality compared to the full-size. It’s almost like the image from the Nebula has more compression artifacts but that doesn’t really make sense to me. Something strange is definitely going on with the image and I’m also not sure what it is.

I agree, your better off sticking with the vista and if your building a micro just go with analog because the picture from the nebula isn't worth the weight increase. I was disappointed when I went for my first flight with it and will be swapping it out for the dji camera for sure

Reminds me off a digital "ccd version" of the airunit camera... Which I personally don't mind - but I do dislike that the nebula doesn't support 120hz (which you forgot to mention I believe - though I'd imagine but might not be important for a lot of people)

I'm still waiting on my Vista/Nebula with 8cm cable to arrive. I want it for heavy toothpick and ultralight 5" builds and on those builds every gram counts and 14mm is the limit for the cam. I wish DJI would have partnered with any other cam maker than Caddx or just did it themselves... I think the image quality issue show that. Im very happy with the vista and DJI cam though.

I found a lot of latency and ghosting/screen tearing in addition to the image quality issues in my review. I think the Image quality, was actually the best part of this product.

How's the night time with this camera is there a better blend kinda of like the analog ratel or run cam eagle , micro and mini plus your addition but not as sharp as what the dji camera is in daylight ? But still better at night flight then the og?

So is the nebula nano worth it now that the vista seems to be sold out or on backorder everywhere for months now? Also I mostly fpv surface vehicles so I see the advantage in the shadow detail of the nano but do you see any advantages in use for surface vehicles?

Hey man, I have just bought a Nazgul 5hd which came with this camera and it is pretty shocking compared to my dji cam on my Chimera 7. If and when the Caddx Nebula pro comes back out would it be a problem to switch cameras over? I noticed that some places when they were available sold the pro with or without the coax cable, are they different cables to the nano or can I basically take out the nanos cable at the back of the camera and attach it to the pro? I would like to put an air unit on there but dont think it will in my nazgul

More latency with the Nebula compared to the Vista camera. I believe Nebula is only 60 fps while Vista is 120 fps. Not 100% sure but that's what others are saying in the comments. I haven't verified it.

I have both the dji air unit and the caddx vista unit and have been using the dji smart controller to do live feed for my spectators at the parks i go and fly. But all my quads with the caddx vista system will not work with the dji smart controller. My quads with the dji air unit works fine. I have been in touch with caddx and they are saying it should be working and it is not. So before any one else buys this system and have plans to live stream a video with the caddx vista it will not work with the dji smart controller at this time.

Hello josh, first i love your boards and 4 in 1 esc, I’m using your f4 board and 4 in 1 on two builds. I like my power pads coming out the side that puts motor number 2 at the rear right where motor 1 usually is, do i have to do the cli commands? I’m 64 and my brain is about to explode!!! After i soldered the motors up i noticed that on the esc something just wasn’t right? Thanks Tom from TN.

I have been flying a vista with the full size camera back to back with a vista with a nebula. Honestly the nebula is great and has allowed me to go HD FPV in my favourite 3" quad which only had room for a 14 mm camera. These youtube video's don't do justice to the image.

I have make a build(99gr with battery strap and props,crsf, no batt) with the nebula and it's better than analog system. It's cheaper and compact, then you can use it for training, freestyle, acrobatic. Or if you carry a naked gopro or insta360 go, it can help. It's a very good choice, i recommend it for this reason. With no doubt the image quality it's worse than micro DJI. If you like simply cruising don't buy it. It's like an "analog+" system.

It’s zoomed In, loosing the top and bottom. Image is still better than analog I think. Also like the dynamic range. Its the slow response time that is a no go for me. In the high 30s low 40s ms:(

We kinda wanted to see the night time flying since it IS called the Nebula, however since the video was quite a bit worse than the overly positive early reviews from Albert Kim, BUT due to JB's stupendous side by side previews here...I'd say that there is NO NEED for a night time preview... I"m SOLD.... THE VISTA TAKES THE CAKE!!!

I had the review done about 2 weeks ago but Caddx thought my unit might be faulty and asked to send a 2nd unit to test. After the 2nd unit had the same image quality, I released the review.

meh... the juice isn't worth the squeeze. Anything capable of *properly* hauling around a Vista brick won't be offended by the extra 4 or 5 grams in the standard cam that delivers a far better image overall with flexible settings. As-is, the Vista is outstanding in my 137 gram 3" Twig XL with a phx-3d HD canopy. My Twiglet has a 14mm cam, but no way would it fly worth a damn hauling around a air unit, so whats the point of the 14mm Nebula?

now here is the micro version, with the possibility of having annalog and dji videos! make a broadcast without the dji "Smartcontroller" which is so expensive .. annalog for people around you for little money for direct ... (but I hope that dji will make an "av out" or "hdmi out "in googles! is THE thing I think is missing ...)

The micro version can't do analog and DJI at the same time, so the idea that it could be used to broadcast analog for spectating isn't true.

@@JoshuaBardwell it's a pity.. ok they don't want to give us solutions to broadcast the googles signal live out. it would be amazing! because I do not understand why there is not a simple usb / hdmi cable coming out of googles to have the direct! like a FULL osd, in short, there is work to be done, and not everyone can afford the dji smartcontroler for the retransmition, ok, anyway I don't have the fpv dji yet but I tested it , and I almost don't want to put on my analog FPV glasses. it's so well done, that there is no photo, it's almost perfect! some good updates and a lighter and more compact vista would be great too, in any case it won't be long, the dji fpv is coming for me soon, I can't wait !!.

I just flew my first couple packs on the nebula on a beta 95X frame. The image quality is not the jaw dropping stunning images you see on the DJI cam however the dynamic range makes up for that in certain situations. I was flying this inside in variable lighting conditions around the house and had no issues seeing details as I went from light to dark areas where I know the DJI camera would have left me struggling to see textures. I have a feeling the differences here are a little more profound than meets the eye. I have noticed that the DJI camera tends to lag a little as it switches exposure levels. This is why people report variable latency as you dive underneath things. You fly into the shade and there is a tiny bit of latency as it switches up the gain settings. Another bit of evidence here is that when flying behind objects at lower powers it degrades very differently, you get image tears instead of teleporting jittery frames. I'm willing to bet this is DJI's attempt to solve the racing viability issue. Get one of these things in Vanover's hands and see what he thinks. Also they will probably tweak this camera even more when the 50mbps mode comes out on the next update.

The real question is whether the latency is consistent. DJI can already beat analog on latency if you use their controller even in HQ mode. And just because you cant switch modes doesn't mean there is no low latency mode.

It’s got a very specific use the Nebula. Probably good for slow flying proximity in dark or high contrast changing situations. Also only to be used on extreme weight conscious builds. I’m using one on a naked GoPro build and prefer it over analog. About the same image quality and no static. Also, Vista helps it with range. That said, I will attempt to strip a regular DJI camera and use that instead because using Nebula still seems like a waste of potential image quality if using Vista.

Yeah they are marketing it as lower latency so I think they we're aiming for that. But they really missed the mark on image quality. I could excuse the waaaay oversharpened image but the depth of focus is also too narrow. If focused at infinity you can't see anything closer than about 25 to 30 feet away. If focused at 10 to 20 feet the background disappears in weird sharpened mess (disappearing trees.) However I did find it easier to fly through the forest when the sunlight filters in in patches. This is something the regular DJI camera had big issues with. I could have lived with lower image quality but there just isn't really much upside to this camera to justify it. I think they really missed the mark on this one, it looks like they drew up a good concept from spec docs (low latency HDR) and just never changed anything when it came out obviously terrible.

No OSD control equals no go for me. These camera companies just don't seem to know what good looking video is. I have an "older" Runcam Racer Nano which comes with OSD control, and I have the sharpness turned waaaay down. Then I recently got the TinyHawkII with the Runcam Nano2 ,....no OSD control. The image is terrible. I immediately swapped that camera with the Caddx Predator Nano 4 that I had laying around, and turned down the sharpness considerably,...and played with the color. Looks much better. Also helps that I can switch it to PAL.

From what I've seen from others and my experience doing it: it's fun if you want to mess with weird designs or stretch/comp X configs or want the experience of designing your own, but for an actual frame for normal use it just isn't durable enough. One crash in grass and you're replacing multiple arms, vs with carbon you can dent a tree and just brush the bark out the motor and keep flying. If you wanna make a 3D printed frame, go for it (the Peon230 is cool). If you want a frame for cheaper than carbon or expect it to actually be better in anything other than maybe weight, probably don't.

I'd recommend to search for "rclifeon 3d printed drone" on RU-vid - he experimented around with designs and even printed props but in the end its just cool for testing and fiddling around but not really viable

Averell Dalton agree, that dude is great. Those props scare me though, I don't like fast spinning printed things haha

Averell Dalton scale helis too. If I trust the pilot I'm not too worried about kwads, but I'm hiding under a tree if one of those is up. I'm quite familiar with the sound of a thin thing at high speed
