For anyone wondering if they have a chance at making it into a top corps, my highest level of music education was highschool band in northern virginia. The brass team at Cadets will train and teach you not only to be a good drum corps horn player, but also sit down band player. Words cannot describe how much I love the brass team.

I love this show. I wanted to ask if you have any advice for me. I want to March cadets next season and would like to know what I should focus on to better my chances at getting in. Thank you and amazing video

Hey! Thanks for the kind words! From my perspective, the brass team REALLY hones in on the basics of playing. If you have the packet already, I would definitely focus on flow 85, articulation, and remingtons. Record yourself and assess if you have the best tone you can produce and ease of slurring between partials. AND DO EVERYTHING MARKING TIME WITH STEP-OUTS, with the right foot! (literally). As far as vis goes, I personally think if you have a stable upperbody and the willingness to learn the lower body technique that cadets use, you are golden. Most important have a good attitude! Even if you are receiving corrections during camp blocks, respond well and focus on it! If you have any other questions feel free to ask!

Hey Aleksi: congrats on a great season! This show is dear to me, as I’ve felt like Atlas with personal things in my life. I saw it early season (Lynn), it sounded great! I understand how difficult this show was with all the physicality and dance, on top of the playing. I don’t care about the score - if you’ve had a satisfying season and accomplished what you’ve wanted, then it’s worth all the pain and hardship. BTW: was your 1st valve a little sticky? I hope it was only temporary. Little history here: I played contra / Cadets ‘92 and my horn developed a slight crack in a tube…staff never got around to fixing it so I plugged it with chewing gum and taped it. The annoying buzz went away and I played all through finals that way. Good luck in your future endeavors!

If you are back next season - make sure they fix it.…if they don’t know about it, it will never get solved! Oh, I just thought to ask: how are the acoustics in Lucas Stadium? I played there once for BOA (Umass Marching Band, in exhibition), but there was no backdrop and far fewer people. Was it difficult to adjust playing inside?

@@videosmith1000 was a different listening environment! But we were taught to have the same sensations inside as we do outside and that helped a lot! Big boomy stadiums can be a scare for sure for the first time
