I have never underestimated the power of a woman. I marched in two different drum corps in upstate New York in the late 60’s and early 70’s. We had an all girl corps about forty miles to the east. They had more members than anybody, and played all the same instruments as all the mixed corps did. And they consistently did very well in competition! Best wishes!
I think I'll do this with my contra section next year, we're loosing a really awesome senior next year and I never wanna the sentence "Well, if he was here..."
Whoooo another contra girl!!!!! I am a freshman girl who is 14 in a section with 4 other guys, 3 juniors, and 1 senior. We would never exercise like this. Lol we are lazy. Also tomorrow I have to try out for junior clinic. Yeah I love seeing girl contras.
There isn't a marching tuba in existence that weighs 30 lbs. Some older Conn Jumbo sousaphones do but they haven't been around for 50 years. You won't find a marching tuba over 24 pounds. They'd be too front-heavy to play. The largest horn still in production is the Conn 20K sousaphone at 28-29 pounds, and they are only that heavy because the bells are 26 inches.
I'm not totally sure why, but it seems like there only 1 world class corps thats all guys, and they havent been the best. And I don't know about you, but sometimes being in one giant sausage fest for the whole summer doesn't sound like the greatest thing ever. Just sayin.
I was the only tuba player in my section for 3 years then i was the only girl tuba player for a year seeing this video i was only encouraged i will stat working harder. for the only girl in the section i have this to say, "Work hard. Don't give up . You are my inspiration. YOU GO GIRL!!!"
hm...you just gave me a good idea for when I'm tuba section leader for my high school's band. We march contras and i've always wanted us to look like DCI caliber
real contrabasses are G bugles... these are shoulder tubas.... doesn't mean these kids are any less impressive. just saying this title has some misnomer going.
gender has nothing to do with skill in a drum corps. look at the placing and scores for the madison scouts and cavaliers. yes, cavaliers have had their winning streak, but think of the drum corps that are consistently at the top every year (Bluedevils, Bluecoats, crown, cadets, scv). These all have some very fantastic female players.
