I love mine; having come to it from a 17 Camaro 2SS (drop top, proper 6 speed on the floor), I was exceedingly impressed with the CT6 as a driver's car. Both have the mag ride, so the Cadillac seems familiar, but there were things unsaid in the video that really got my brain going wow. Not that I can't park (was a valet for a distinctive dinning restaurant in Kalamazoo Michigan as a kid) but the auto park feature is great fun. The adaptive cruise control is freakishly enchanting too. With it set (I live in Hampton Roads/Tidewater Virginia now), I-64 and it's much beloved creep and beep traffic for the bridge tunnels is no longer an issue. The Caddy woes well with the traffic, right down to zero, then resumes when the cars ahead move. It also works when cruising towards red lights when following traffic. Very weird to get used to but awesome, regardless. Then there's that 34 speaker Bose radio. Crank any rock you like, it has few equals as a system. He didn't show it either but that night vision thing and the deer out here in Williamsburg make frequent guest stars and I do love how well it works. It can see the deer hundreds of yards before I do. The system dims the lights of on-coming vehicles in the display as well; so does the rear view mirror camera. The latter is one of those things that seems neat and then you find out how much you love it. It's just as awesome as the remote start (which few of the Europeans as said to offer). I like how the CT6 cuts on the A/C to maximum when I cut the car on from hundreds of feet away. It would automatically crank the heat in the winter, said the sales rep. That four wheel steering though; it is phenomenal. As I've said, I love this car. It's the nicest vehicle that I've ever owned.

Thomas, you might not have been able to move the rear seats because the childproof lock for the rear windows may have been engaged on the driver‘s door panel. This keeps kids from playing with the seat controls. Great review as always.

That car is not heavy! It is lighter than cars a class smaller. Also this car drives really sporty....way more so than its rivals. I do agree on the seats even though they are not bad. Finally it does not need air suspension when it has magnetic shocks. Oh and it seems you did not realize the rear view mirror was a camera.
@crecasens

RayJ-HT - I was also surprised that he called the car heavy when it’s claim to fame is that it is a lot lighter than other cars in its class. And it seemed to me as well that he did not realize the rearview mirror is a Camera.

Great Review Thomas - what a lot of work. Armenian-American trance, Thomas! Loved the driving part with excellent commentary. Liked the bit about bullying, and "archaic"! I've read other people's comments - of some complaining that Thomas didn't like the CT6 (or only likes German cars!), but what I took away from this Review was that Thomas was quite impressed with this Cadillac!

xennex Speaking of sales figures, there was a two year old article that said that the Ford Mustang outsold the the Porsche 991, that was TWICE the price and more expensive Audi TT in Autogefuhl’s home turf. So, that may say something about the future of the American foreign market, especially in Germany, car country, that is.
@unknownunknowns

Ct6 is a nice midsize car. Don’t forget it is the first Ct6 model, needs improving but it is overall a success. Imagine Mercedes E class first model? Allot to work out. I personally like it and drove one here in US, there has been some reliability issues since 2016 when it came out. Here a platinum model gets up to 90-95k, that’s allot of money. You can get a nice spec E or 5 series for that money. Good reviews. Keep it up

About the rear camera resolution... we have a Cadillac and and Audi in our family. The Audi appears better, however it is also a smaller “picture” than the one in the Cadillac. I’ve noticed that this seems to be the case in my friend’s MB as well. Makes me think that if you expanded the picture in those cars the resolution would appear just as poor.

@dwightlooi 6 лет назад
Two things... #1 You forgot to mention that the rear seats DO NOT FOLD. That is uber annoying. I can understand that for the Platinum with the recline adjustable rear seats, but is not limited to the Platinum. #2 The CT6 is actually VERY LIGHT starting at 3,667 lbs for an RWD 2.0T, 4,099 lbs for the Luxury AWD 3.0TT and maxing out at 4,399 lbs for the Platinum 3.0TT AWD. That is about 300~400 lbs lighter than the comparably equipped competition and only 100 lbs heavier than the smaller CTS. With the 2.0T engine it is almost BMW 3-series light, which is amazing for such a big car. That is especially commendable given that the Omega is not an aluminum platform.

Great review, interesting proposition. I'm not exactly in the target group but just for fun, I might test drive one :) The opening shot, I get the impression of seeing some Maybach elements at the front and Audi elements for the right rear door and the wheel panel behind it. The rear I find, has similarities with the Quattroporte 2012-ish. Maybe that's why you don't get bullied from behind hehe. There is no negative subtone, it looks acceptable, I find. An issue that I find with modern cars and increased centre screen is that the air vents are placed low and blow air in the wrong angle to either hands or face area :( I loved the VW Phaeton solution to have a separator sliding over the vents to radiate cool air and prevent red eyes after longer distances.

I'm talking handling, braking, how it attacks corners, the responsiveness and communication of the steering, chassis, level of feedback,a ll of that stuff. Would you say not quite 911? Maybe more like Honda Accord or even Honda Civic Type R? BMW 3 Series? If I'm looking for a car that drives like the CT6 but I don't want the CT6, what car might that be?

FYI you kept repeating in your comments about the cars weight and how heavy it is. For future reference, take note: Mercedes Benz S class 5081 lbs 2305 kg, BMW 7 series 4499 lbs , 2041 kg, Audi A8 5034 lbs, 1830 kg, Cadillac CT6, less than 3700 lbs, 1480 kg. What you should have stated was the interior is still not up to the polish of the German rivals. Regarding your comments on ROFL, get up off the floor it is not dignified.

To the CT6: it is a good looking sleek luxury sedan. I like it also, because it is also not so expensive as the competition. Two other interesting cars in this class would be the Lexus LS 500 & the Genesis G70. By the way, is it possible that you will testing the Rolls Royce Phantom VIII?

A really handsome car, eventhough it could be mistaken for an F segment sedan it actually sits more within the E category. The king size superluxury Caddy replacing the old STS may see the light in the coming years. A true shame that it doesn't feature an auto-dimming rear view mirror. Rear seats may be blocked with some kids safety option. Get well soon ;)

I think this is one of the most detailed CT6 videos, and we got a fairly good idea of the car without going to the showroom and suffering the salesperson! Thomas can't show everything! At our leisure can now check the online configurator to see the exact spec (the US one, or the UK configurator which only offers a fully loaded CT6!). Nice car.

Hmmm...I'm new to this channel. However, in what I have seen, Thomas tends to be partial to German cars. On this review it was pick, pick, pick. On the reviews I've seen on German cars they look more like commercials from the German manufacturers. I'll keep watching, but...

If you watch all of our reviews full length, you ll realize that every car gets the same fair chance. Watch the Audi A8 review in comparison, you ll find even more criticism in it. I couldnt care less where a car gets built. Plus most cars are "international" cars anyway, Germans built in the US, Jeep builds in Italy, etc. You cannot really sort that out anymore.

in fact it's E-klasse competitor not F. And it's personal luxury car by american standarts, focused on driver. It's very high tech in terms of engineering, weight less than E\5 series, drives more sporty, but lacks in interior quality comparing to them, maybe not so refined. But so much better looking, this profile, wheels, lights....all of this have pose and stance like a boss. And you forgot to mention about live HD rear view mirror - cool feature)

Thomas, you commented a couple of times on the size of the grill and how strong it appears compared to its German rivals and I have to say I think you are wrong with that view. When I look at this and compare it with the the MB and Audi grills they all seem to have followed the same idea- large prominent grilles are good. I see no difference in how most manufacturers design their frontends these days- big and obnoxious. Subtlety is a long forgotten quality, I'm afraid. Great review again. My father would have liked this car, save the grille of course, but it's not for us!

Great review Thomas! Cadillac has come a long way. The fact that they are being compared to M-B and BMW speaks for itself. Cadillac has hired top designers and engineers from M-B, BMW and Audi. In many categories Cadillac is better than those marques. That being said, Cadillac may not be every European's cup of tea and also there is European snobbery against American marques. The KIA Stinger GT is facing a similar bias by European car reviewers. Also, I find that Europeans are willing to put up with more defects with European branded cars (especially German marques) than Americans or Japanese would tolerate in any car...

Although I only skimmed thru your review, your conclusion failed to make mention of the magnetic ride control, nor of the wide rear view camera that mimics a mirror. Major difference, no blind spots and it is intuitive and always on. Not like the only on while in reverse rear view assist cameras. This alone I predict will be an industry standard within 10 years. A steep price and only available on the premium edition, separates me from the experience of this mirror. Alas, I am not in the cadillac market, but it does offer quite a good value and the rear view mirror option would sway me over the competition, as good as they are!

It's a sham that you couldn't get the rear seat positioning controls to work. If you could have extended and raised the thigh support and just slightly reclined the seatback you'd have found a truly coddling position where your lower back would have felt like it was suspenedvin a sling and your head would have been in a natural position under the higher part of the roof cutout.

The interior design is modern and utilitarian like BMW, but in Cadillac's case I kind of like it. BMW does their interiors that way because they're a performance brand and don't really want to design a luxury interior, but they know that wood and leather is now seen as obligatory at luxury price points. So they sort of just begrudgingly pick out some plain square hunk of wood, alternate them with plain square hunks of leather, and the result is a clinical, formulaically nice design. It's nice, but it's nothing special or standout, it's emotionless. It's almost undesigned. Cadillac, however, was *deliberately* going for the modern, edgy, angular look that BMW created almost by accident. The result to me looks and feels much more cohesive, has more character, and really feels like the passionate work of a designer's hand. The colors and textures of the wood, leather, and chrome actually fit together into a cohesive design, rather than being piled and layers on top of each other in the most inoffensive way. Cadillac doesn't go as far in that direction as Audi recently has, but I can't stand the acres of glass and cheap black gloss plastic that Audi interiors started using about 5 years ago, so I still prefer the Cadillac. The fake carbon fiber trim is especially egregious: they've taken plastic hard and cheap enough for a Mitsubishi Mirage, and made it an option that suckers pay $5k for, as well as the only interior trim options on their S models, by printing some gray weave on it. Also, holy shit a VW Phaeton at 18:16

I can’t wait for Caddy to integrate its 6.2L V8 supercharged engine, from the C7 Corvette and CTS-V, into the CT6! Maybe, it would be called the CT6-V that could compete against the Mercedes S63 AMG, BMW 760Li, and Audi S8.

Thomas, I believe that you should point what car we can get from other at this category at a similar price... Sometimes people compare this poor one to cars costing tens of thousand of euros more, just to say that the cadillac is inferior. As an example right now I see on the "build" option at BMW's site they offer a thing called Diamond Surround Sound System for the 7 Series as an option for $3400. This thing uses psycoaccoustic technology and studio-level tools and are said to look and sound real great, but adds around 3% at the price on a car that is already way more expensive. Also funny to read that Apple CarPlay compatibility costs $300 for the BMW 7.
@autogefuehl
@autogefuehl 6 лет назад
yeah I did mention that this one here is a couple of thousand euros cheaper!
@antoniodosreisfeitosaneto7553
@antoniodosreisfeitosaneto7553 6 лет назад
Yes, you did. But a couple of thousand euros can add fast up to 40 thousand or more, when comparing to the models this car is often compared to... BMW 7 series, Audi A7, Mercedes S. Price of the CT6 is sometimes a par with the Mercedes E, even less, and no critics compare these two. In US or in Europe, I am waiting to see someone take a similarily priced sedan from Audi, BMW or Mercedes and compare it to the CT6. I believe it would be not a S Class, not a 7 series, not an A7, and the CT6 would be far better in many aspects. But even cadillac seems to prefer this all-or-nothing approach and compare its cars only to the great top-of-the-line german luxury sedans. The same happens with the CTS-V line up.

Disappointed with review: 1. Did not highlight Autonomous Driving 2. Did not cover that the car has different modes of driving 3. And of course the cost, this vehicle is 1/2 the price of competitors. He just mentions it at the end. Fully Loaded Platinum new was about 80k to get same tech and features in English or German Cars you need to go 150k plus.

Air suspension is not good for higher highway speeds. The magnetic shocks are faster to respond to conditions but are firmer than air shocks. Plus less maintenance as the pump needs replacing.

Thomas, on the blind spot system, I believe that an early alert as you asked for around 26:00 would be really against the purpose of this thing. The idea behind blind spopt detection is that when you look at the mirror and you see the LED lit you know that there is something NOT visible, in a BLIND SPOT, so the driver is trained to always note the LED before changing lane. In the video at 26:20 you can see what I am talking about...
