This video shows how I make my cafe chairs.
This chair is made in walnut with a bent form laminated back and a variety of joinery methods throughout the chair. My video about bent form laminating can be seen here.;
• Bent Lamination Forms
To see how I make the Maloof joint please subscribe. I am working on a very exhaustive video on how to make it.
I use my card scrapers for finishing and they can be purchased from my website store;
www.bearkatwood...
The drill bits I use are from;
www.woodshopbi...
The best sandpaper I have found is from Mirka-online.com
I like the Abranet as it doesn't clog and lasts a long time.
The adze I use is from John Switzer of Blackbearforge.com
Please like, subscribe and share this video.
If you don't like it, please let me know why so I can work harder to improve my videos to be inspirational and informative for woodworkers.
Thanks for watching.

Very nice work. I don't know if I'll ever make my own chairs, but one can come away from this appreciating why good chairs are expensive; they're tricky to make! If humans were made of boxes and rectangles, it would be a different story.

Thank you Jon, but really can I come crash on your couch?? ;) I have wanted to visit Ireland my whole life and hope to one day. @jonbishop1385
@jonbishop1385 7 лет назад
Bandon is Down South in Co Cork and benefits from a sunnier/drier climate than here on the northwest, we are surrounded by forestry but all just a pinewood, Your Bandon is right up northwest of the US, it must be Great there,far better weather? I'm living here almost 27 years and originally from the south of The UK, Portsmouth we meet a lot of Americans here, in fact we have friends from Tennessee we just visited today, Most that come to Ireland seem to leave their heart here and revisit and stay

Your best video so far. As Shannon i had to see it twice. So much information and great little details both regarding woodworking and filming. You have you own aestaetic (is that correct spelling?) and i am quite curious how you ended op right there. When did you have the feeling that "there it is, that shape is perfect"? Large question but perhaps a theme for another video? Keep up the good work!
@bearkatwood6354
@bearkatwood6354 7 лет назад
Actually that is a great question. I have been working on this design and I am still not done with it. It is a growth process and when I completed this chair I sat down and redesigned the seat to be a little more delicate. I will have plans for it later this year. I have made quite a few pieces over the years and I am always tweaking them, but for this chair I am fairly happy with the design. I think it just worked well with the backrest and the back legs, they make it flow well. Thanks for watching.
@Hiksan5
@Hiksan5 7 лет назад
Designing furniture (and anything else) is a fluffy matter that is much discussed but not shown much in detail. You seem to be quite aware of your design process and I have seen in several of your videos that you mention part of the process. If you need inspiration I, for one, would love to see a video cowering that process and the thoughts that go before!

Welcome to the team ;) It is a great jointer, it needs good dust collect though and can get clogged easy if you don't have a good sucker. I worked hard to give the video a cadence to it. Thanks for watching and subscribing.
@tomsdreamshopworx
@tomsdreamshopworx 7 лет назад
In the base of the jointer it is just a angled trough from the bottom of the head to the dust port. I cut and screwed in a piece of plywood to cover the top of the trough. I used a piece of plywood 8-3/8" wide and 17" long with a 35 deg. bevel on one end and a 55 deg bevel on the other. I buttered the beveled ends with silicone caulk and shoved the top into place. I added a screw through each side of the chute to hold the plywood in place. This really helps with the dust collection.

@bearkatwood6354

Well titebond 3 is waterproof-ish so maybe if it was going outside... ;) ha. No, the reason I use titebond 3 is the open time, it has about twice the open time as titbeond 1 or 2 so for a complicated glue up it helps to have a few extra minutes.

Wow. Beautiful chair. How did you get the back rest angles transferred to the bent lam jig?
@bearkatwood6354
@bearkatwood6354 7 лет назад
I actually built the back rest form first for another chair design and when I made the prototype for this chair I clamped a bent lamination to the legs when I was marking out the placement. You still have to plane a little to get a perfect fit, but it worked out nicely. Thanks for watching.
