I heard it at first in 1981. I played it over and over again, and loved it so much! As life moved on, I lost it. I just now found it again after 38 years...
I was assigned temporary duty to Dallas, TX in 1983. A co-worker there, who shared the same appreciation for music as I, burned an eclectic tape mix for me. This track immediately stood out.
I agree! I heard it for the first time when I was at the beach in Zandfoort last year, and there was a café where a DJ played it. It was a magic Moment for me...and I've listened to this many times after that. Beautiful!
Street Tattoo has the power to lift me out of any bad day at the office / low mood. Trust me it's been one of my "go to" tunes for the last 25 years. Never fails, always hits the spot.
Boring facts you probably know already: Original composition 1960 by Lalo Schifrin (who also did the soundtrack for Boulevard nights) and Gale Garnett. ST is track 5 on the 1978 jazz funk album Children of the Night, probably to coincide with the release of the film. Lalo was album arranger, sharing p/kb duties with Andy LaVerne. That 70's jazz funk sound rocks big time for me!
Just listened to George Benson vocal, recorded for Boulevard Nights movie 1979 - also very good! I found the SG version on a compilation album, significant find as it got me into jazz!
Children of the World (Stan Getz album) Studio album by Stan Getz Released 1979 Recorded December 20-21, 1978 Los Angeles, California Length 54:33 Label Columbia JC 35992 Producer Stan Getz (1977) Children of the World Children of the World is an album by saxophonist Stan Getz featuring compositions by Lalo Schifrin to commemorate the International Year of the Child which was recorded in 1978 and originally released on the Columbia label. The album cover art features Charles M. Schulz's Peanuts cartoon of Snoopy on saxophone and Schroeder on piano. The Allmusic review by Scott Yanow stated "It is not the electronics of Andy LaVerne that is bothersome on this LP but the poppish material (which includes the theme from Evita) and the excessive amount of keyboardists and guitarists. Stan Getz cannot be blamed for trying something new (he even uses an Echoplex sparingly) and his cool-toned tenor is in fine form but the overall results are rather forgettable". From hangin' with 'Trane, and the other club-gigging giants on the New York jazz scene in the '50s. Oh yeah, and from the ubiquitous hit of heroin they all used to expand their musical explorations. 👑🎸🎵
Me gusta el café, me gusta la bossa y me gusta el mar. Con estos tres ingredientes hay que ser muy malo para no hacer un buen guiso musical. Tampoco digo que sea tan fácil.
