I watch a lot of RU-vid channels that restore or rebuild car, this is the only motorcycle rebuild channel I watch and it amazes me the attention to detail and creative use of simple tools to shape the body panels, the finish is also top notch! It is inspiring to watch, and motivating to get my K100 cafe racer done, cheers

Still watching. Maybe your losing subs because your not uploading every day like some channels and you know what people are like, they want "everything now" For me I'm happy to watch whenever you upload a video, you have to work, live, spend time with the family, most of us understand but theres always a few that don't. Anyway, I am still here because I like the painting sections as I've been into airbrush art and spraying since the 80's, only as a hobby though not professionally. I like to see things made whether its from metal, fibreglass or from whatever. I have only done a small amount of fibreglassing and have some projects in the future to do, replicating some vintage Honda side pannels and possibly mudguards for my 2 Honda's but im stuck on how to do the stick out pegs on the panels that sit in the gromets on the frame so if you ever do something similar I will be glued to the screen, and seeing the rear tray just in white cloth and resin was great as I have a small roll of that cloth which I brought blindly (didnt now what i needed) and then thought "i'll never use that", but now i have a use for it. Thanks for the videos hopefully subs will go back up.

Thanks so much Lee, very kind mate, yes I do struggle with time, haha well I’m glad I was of use to you, now you know what to do with the fibreglass cloth 🤪👍🏻 The good thing is, you can bond fixings on to the parts, as long as you glass over the actual bit that is in contact with the panel, ie if it were a bolt you would bond the bolt head on with say filler, then glass over the bolt head so it is totally incapacitated to your part, if that makes sense 🤪

@@Dustmonkeycreations Yeh that makes sense and I could probably 3d print the pegs. However its just popped in my head and this is me thinking out loud now, what are your thoughts (sorry to take your time up) If I make them from resin and fibreglass strands? By taking a mould off them before hand, using a silicone mould (silicone and cornflour combined to make the mould, it works really well) then filling with resin and fibreglass strands? It should work? See you have inspired me just by replying. thanks
@Dustmonkeycreations
@Dustmonkeycreations Год назад
It’s no bother bud, yes you could do that, you can get 3-6mm fibre strands or just cut conventional Matt in to thin strips that you could brake up and mix with the resin, I would mix this in a pot first and get as much fibre in as you can, you could even push a metal rod through it, like a nail or something, but make sure you have a good base area or bond to the panel, like a pound coin size 👍🏻

Nice one Troy, tbh it was such a Stress and messy business I just didn’t have the patience to document it 🤪 I’ll do some on something easier Actually there is a vid on skinning where I make the front mudguard for the bm, same principles 👍🏻👍🏻

You may class yourself as a painter , but you have a very good grasp of bodyworking and finishing from over the years , i have a question when you do a carbon overlay do you use a bag ?
@Dustmonkeycreations
@Dustmonkeycreations Год назад
Haha Lee, it’s painting I do the least mate 👍🏻 No I don’t bag the overlay, I think it could create more of an uneven surface, you would probably still need to use peel ply which will create wrinkles in a complex shape, for sur you could if it was say near flat but I don’t see the benefit tbh, but I’m not a pro so don’t take what I say as anything mate 🤪👍🏻

Nice with the matt lacquer 👍

Thanks Derek, yes mate I like gloss but I think satin makes it stand out more, hard to explain, more like real carbon rather than the glossy stuff 👍🏻

When I saw the thumb with the pink bodywork.... 😂😂😂 Is doing an overlay instead of an inlay in a mould more difficult to get a good finish as I suppose the first layer in an inlay is gel coat? It's looking good though, shame if you don't get it to the bike shed but better that than rushing it.
@Dustmonkeycreations
@Dustmonkeycreations Год назад
Yes Alan, same kinda principle, the only thing is, your outside finish won’t be smooth, or will have the texture of the carbon, you then need to build up over the carbon with a clear resin to flat back to get smooth👍🏻 then you can clear it Hope that makes sense 🙈👍🏻
@alancampbell1008
@alancampbell1008 Год назад
@@Dustmonkeycreations get it. So it means you will see the carbon weave, just about more prep work for a smooth gloss finish. Look forward to seeing it.

Hello, Quick question regarding the overlay for undertail. What thickness was the fiberglas mat and how many layers did you do. I have a similar idea for a tail I am currently making for a motorcycle of mine. All the fuzz of making a mold for a one off piece feels very overkill. Hope you have time to answer my question and if not that´s ok. Take care!!
@Dustmonkeycreations
@Dustmonkeycreations 7 месяцев назад
No problem, you need fibreglass cloth, not mat, I used 200g and 3 layers minimum, 4 would be plenty 👍🏻

@@Dustmonkeycreations thank you very much, appretiate it that you took your time. I will give it a go here at home. I assume that you used epoxy resin and not polyester for that aplication?
