Electrician, Drinking 1,5 - 2 litres of coffee a day, for last 20 years. Containing 1200 - 1600 mg caffeine. I still have 300 mg caffeine in my system when I go to sleep. Calculated with 6 hour half life. That amount is equivalent of 8-10 of 500 ml energy drink with 160 mg caffeine (Monster for example). I am considering changing some of it to decaffeinated. Might be good to health.

Decaf is for quitters. lol Yeah, it’s probably not good for us to drink all caffeine in existence every day, but I don’t drink sugary beverages except right after working out. 250ml of OJ and 1cup Greek yogurt with 7g creatine. I also don’t drink alcohol or eat crappy foods in general. I feel drinking excess coffee is the least egregious thing I could be doing, and it keeps me away from those worse things. To me, it’s helping more than hindering.

I've started occasionally taking a 200mg caffeine pill when my alarm goes off, and then falling back to sleep. 10-20 minutes later it kicks in and I feel GREAT -- blunts that morning stiffness and soreness and expedites the morning brown like nothing else.

If you go on a keto low-carb carnivore diet, you crave coffee like crazy because you have shit energy levels from your diet just destroys gains in the gym because you can’t sleep because you’re so hungry or and or caffeinated the best is a low-fat high carb diet that doesn’t require any caffeine and gives you excellent sleep Which will make your muscles recover so much better, Carbs FTW!! 💪💪💪

And in my case, I became incredibly caffeine sensitive for some reason, my resting heart rate was scary, and the heart was pounding really hard. Took a while to figure out what it was, since coffee has been there since I was 12 without any problems. Getting back to a normal omnivore diet fixed it instantly.

@@Melesniannon Burning fat as fuel is a back up mechanism. Burning excessive fat creates ROS reactive oxygen species. Carbs are way more effective and efficient at creating energy and ATP in the body. Cortisol has to rise significantly as do glucagon and other stress hormones to create glucose on the liver by BREAKING DOWN amino acids IE muscle tissue. So yes, humans are at their best by burning carbs. The Randle cycle and numerous studies confirm this and it has been know for decades. Quit following youtube gurus like berg and delaurer and d ken barry and read for your self

Don't know about that but as a heavy preworkout user, I can tell my skin is not as supple, perhaps because of the dehydrating effect it has. Caffeine does block some of the effects of collagen production as well. Besides being in a viscious cycle between using caffeine daily and the negative effects it has on sleep quality, I do try to go cold turkey for a week and I start to notice better energy levels, less anxiety and a better complexion!

When I get in touch with my feelings, I feel my fascia is stiff before my caffeine, while I’m drinking caffeine and after I have caffeine. Therefore caffeine is good while being bad and helpfully hurts people. I know this because of my feelings.

Look, no disrespect to the work you put in becoming strong but most people don't make a habit out of picking up human beings to carry them out of burning buildings. Most people will not meet that situation in their lives even once. If it's your job to carry people out of buildings, fair do's and your sister probably should've known what you do for a living but if it's not, it's a really bad answer.

I question the comment because believing that being able to pick a person up is of great use, when in real life you almost never pick a person up, really should be questioned. Putting in effort isn't objectively good, there are a million ways you can increase effort and make life more difficult that serve absolutely no purpose.

Hi Layne Greetings from Perth. First of all - love your content and have done for years. Was hoping to get a question on your radar from me and my friends who all lift and all follow you closely. My wife and I train with a group of men and women following a bodybuilding type protocol. None of us will be seeing a stage anytime soon but we like the training method and the results. We are all keenly interested in nutrition and watch our calories and macros - again not obsessive, just keenly interested. Over the past 10 years of training together we have all noticed changes in the way we respond to different sources of calories. Simply put - we all understand energy balance but at the same time we all have certain foods we can be very relaxed with consumption and others which are clearly problematic. Whilst we all believe that every calorie is equal - our bodies clearly are not. Each of us has our own thing. Some are convinced that refined carbs (equating for calories) are more likely to add body fat than other calorie sources. For me it’s chicken which my body certainly at least seems to dislike whereas it loves Beef. My wife can add a few hundred calories of wine a few days a week, keep it there for months and then take it out without noticing,. Is this a feature of the uniqueness of our guts? Not out to solve a problem here - just a curious mind. Thank you for all that you do Cheers, Matthew

Functional patterns is one of these cult like factions of fitness that has somewhat of the right answer (contralateral motion, training in the transverse plane) but INSTEAD of using that as a FACET of a larger fitness toolbelt, they claim its the end all be all. They block anyone the cites opposing information, and have dogmatic narrow views related to exercise and diet/lifestyle, very much in the carnivore paleo living style. I worked with a guy who was obsessed for years and would constantly degrade my more conventional methods, and eventually he realized he was in a cult. Unfortunately, he was then roped into ANOTHER cult like modality and pseudoscientific methodology, and was irreconcilable last we spoke. Groupthink and critical thinking are a frustrating aspect of this industry friends.

Idk, I dont subscribe to functional patterns but this may be one of the exception cases in which the science appears incorrect and the psuedo science is correct. Something is missing. Functional patterns has some of the most impressive results of any ideaology. They have Kyle Dake as their prime example. Arbitrary barbell movement standards or feats seem to be trivial when compared to Dakes capacities. Also the defintions of functional movements need way more discussion. The immediate dismissals are not very logical.

The question is what criteria are you using to determine 'results'? What are the capacities you are looking at, and why are they relevant or "functional"? What's the limit of the functionality in terms of training, when do we reach 'excess capacity'? Without definitions for these and justifications for the definitions, having this discussion is useless. Then it's just another training method that achieves leads to different abilities, none of which are more useful than another.

I do bodybuilding as a hobby, how is it not functional? I am capable of solo carrying the new dryer, I can easily lift up heavier items when helping friends move. My dog suddenly does a 180 and charges it doesn't hurt my shoulder and I can easily pull her back. Building muscle also translates to any other activity I like doing, like swimming and climbing. In fact just adding some cardio to it and I feel like a superhuman compared to what I used to be. Not only is it functional, but it also builds endurance when you do high rep work, and any good relationship with your SO benefits from strong glutes with good endurance, the most important type of functional.

The following is the absolute most charitable interpretation of what they're intending to say: Bodybuilding's emphasis on isolated movements have less carry over to day to day task/movements, relatively speaking, than compound movements. With that said, going full ROM for mobility, more muscle mass, inevitable strength gain, better coordination/control... it's still going to have a lot of carry over and is plenty "functional".

It helps blunt the stress and inflammation but when it's chronically elevated that's when it's catabolic and damaging to your body. Some cortisol is okay, in fact it's essential for our survival.

there def is no secret, they are wrong, and you are wrong about foam rolling. Not the part about needing bigger forces to stretch fascia, but in its application and intended use. The goal is not to ''stretch fascia'' but to work on trigger points. So, working on trigger points is very useful depending on what condition youre treating, but is only part of a solution along with strength training. So, foam rolling if treating specific neuromuscular imbalances and mobility issues, yes. To dismiss it overall is wrong and shows lack of understanding. Also, when you have to resort to ''i can lift more than you'' and ''you couldnt pick up my warmup'' in an argument, shows weakness.

I wanted to type pretty much this exact message. Am a big fan of Layne calling out the bs normally but found it pretty disappointing he is making fun of something he isn't well informed in. Learning about fascia and releasing trigger points completely changed my body. While years of weight lifting trying to get strong and strengthen inactive muscles in retrospect, made it worse for my case. I agree that those claims about coffee etc. are unsupported but thinking that being super strong in the big 3 is everything in terms of a healthy body is pretty ignorant. There is a reason why the people with the biggest muscles from lifting are not the most athletic (or not athletic at all). I'd recommend the book Anatomy Trains as a start.

we need more people like this guy on there. Love your stuff Dr. Norton. Thats what i usually tell all my colleagues that are "trying" stuff claiming that it works. when there weak and small. Seeeing no results. Some of these people will believe anything without reading into it. Its a truly sad society we live in. Thats why the elites stay elite and the small folks stay small. 😊
