"This piece uses the principle of varied repetition.The music presents a few motifs with which we gradually become familiar. They reappear slightly varied, but are always recognizable. You can imagine someone picking up pebbles, choosing them by shape, color or texture. They're arranged in a single line, and then you have fun rotating them. They're always the same, so you recognize them, but you see them change a little. The one that looks big at first, when you turn it, looks finer; the other, which has a rough side, when you turn it reveals another side, this one smooth".
