Three Spells is a collection of musical pieces for open instrumentation inspired by the world of witchcraft. I imagine each piece as a spell to obtain different magical results. In the first piece, To collect sparkles of moonlight, the meditative mood at the beginning evokes the calm of a moonlit night. The second piece, How to turn into a maple seed, uses tremolos and accelerando to evoke the spinning motion of a falling maple seed. The third and final piece, How to learn the secrets of the stones, is mainly based on accents and percussive sounds, contrasting with airy, ephemeral sounds. In a way, this piece employs the musician's body beyond the instrumental gesture: indeed, musicians are invited to use their voice and their feet to create a ritual aimed at making the stones tell their secrets.
The event was co-organised by The Ivry-sur-Seine Municipal Music School (Ecole de musique et de danse) and MusEA a non profit organisation for amateur chamber music players (Musique, Espaces des Amateurs).
