Learn the BEST way to calculate the pH of an acidic salt. The acidic salt is ammonium chloride and a list of neutral ions will be given. RICE or ICE tables will be used to solve the acid equilibrium problems given. Molecular or particulate modeling of weak acids will also be demonstrated.

Seriously great video. Can you please elaborate the same for NH4HS being salt of weak acid and weak base. What would be the solution PH on hydrolysis? Can you please hlep?

Thanks for this video. I have a question. How do I calculate the pH of different salt waters (KCl, NaCl, MgCl2, and CaCl2) at different pressure, temperature, and molality? I have need experimental data, or correlation or general formula.

Hi, why do the strong acid anions not deprotonize water? What happens to Cl- after the dissociation reaction?
@AnneSchmidt
@AnneSchmidt 3 года назад
The Chloride ion has a such a small Kb value so it can’t deprotonate a water molecule. A water molecule is actually more likely to deprotonate another water molecule.

can someone pls answer my question ? which has lower ph nh4cl or h2s03 ? i googled it and nh4cl is 4.6-6.0 and h2so3 is 5.1 . this question came up on the exam that the whole country took . we never studied if the acidic salt had a lower ph than a week acid or the other way around. most teachers said the two answers should be correct but the ministry of education (who wrote the exam) said no theres only one correct answer and im dying to know which one it is.

Hi! Just wanna ask what happened to chlorine after the dissociation reaction?
@AnneSchmidt
@AnneSchmidt 2 года назад
The chloride is a spectator ion that also does not alter the pH of water. It is a neutral ion.
@gegegege2458

why is the concentration of NH4Cl equal to the concentration of NH4+
@AnneSchmidt
@AnneSchmidt 2 года назад
Because the NH4Cl completely dissociates into one NH4+ ion and one Cl- ion so the mole ratio is the same.
@gegegege2458
@gegegege2458 2 года назад
@@AnneSchmidt but isnt NH4Cl a weak acid? why is it completely dissociating?
@jackryan702
@jackryan702 3 года назад
Wouldn't the sulfate ion be basic because the Ka value for the second dissociation of sulfuric acid is so low? HSO4- has a somewhat low dissociation constant, though it is not nearly as low as that of water so maybe that's my answer right there
@AnneSchmidt
@AnneSchmidt 3 года назад
Sulfuric acid is unique in being a diprotic acid with a very large Ka1 and then the Ka2 for HSO41- is considered a very strong weak acid. If you check the pH of bisulfate salts they are acidic.

May I ask some question, Suppose if we have hydrolysis ammonia NH4+ NH3 + H+ Kh = [NH3][H+]/[NH4] = 10^-9 mol/L To 1 liter of pure water, 1mmol of ammonium chloride was dissolved, and pH was adjusted to 9 using sodium hydroxide. What will be the concentrations of ammonium ion and free ammonia?
