Calculating Clearfall For your Self-Retracting Device/Lanyard 

When choosing a lanyard or SRD, it is important to consider your application and calculate the distance of clear fall needed in order for the fall arrest system to activate and keep the worker from making contact with the lower level.
Clear Fall distance calculations differ depending on the type of connector you plan to use.
With a Self-retracting Device (SRD) it is important to know which “class” it is.
ANSI Z359.14-2012 sorts SRD’s into two classes - Class A which allows a maximum arrest distance of 2 feet; and Class B, which allows a Maximum arrest distance of 4 ½ feet
