ABCS is introducing their new 3D character named “Abel Wiseman” who is wearing a full-body harness and shock absorbing lanyard. He is using a cable wrap connected to an I-beam that serves as his anchorage.
Understanding fall clearance, arresting force and free fall distance is key to safely using a personal fall arrest system.
With the assistance of Abel Wiseman, you’ll see how easy it is to calculate your minimum clearance and free fall distance when setting up your fall arrest system.
This 3D animation provides a step-by-step method that explains in simple language how to figure out your clearance and free fall distance without the need for complicated formulas and acronyms.

One of the best videos on this subject. Especially the explanation on when the anchor point is above, at level and below the D-ring.

Very informative and pleasant to watch and learn. Low key music is perfect, unlike some other videos with annoying noisy 'music'.

So why do some companies need to use pfas startin from 6 ft working at height platform? If the worker is 6 ft tall and he hooks on an additional 1ft above his head, that is the total of 6+6+1=13 ft (length from anchorage point to the ground). If I do the calculation, Lanyard Length: 6+ Deceleration:3.5 + Workers Height 6=15.5. 15.5 is longer distance than 13 ft. So he would hit the ground if he starts hooking his lanyard 1ft above his head when he is on a 6 ft height platform? I’m confused please help me understand why osha standard says 6 feet clearance when the calculation is like this? I might just be missing sth here. 😢

A 6ft lanyard with a 3.5 SAE does not work when u are only 6f above the ground. A 6ft lanyard with a 3.5 SAE was designed to work on a platform 10 ft off the ground and only when you are attached to an anchor 3 ft above your D-ring.
