This physics video tutorial explains how to calculate the contact force between blocks using free body diagrams. It discusses how to determine the amount of force exerted by a block on another block using Newton's Third Law of Motion which states that for every action force, there is an equal but opposite reaction force. This video contains two practice problems of calculating the contact force between two blocks with and without kinetic friction.

For finding acceleration a straightforward equation I personal find easier to digest is Applied force - (Mass x gravity x coefficient of friction) / Mass

priyamvada priyam Sum of the forces in the Y direction. You just use the same method but in a different axis.
@jimkeen7674
@jimkeen7674 2 года назад
If they're stacked on top of each other, the contact force is simply the weight (mg) of the top block. This changes if there are more than two blocks. If there are more than two, the contact force between each pair of blocks is the sum of the weights of the top block and all the blocks above it.

Why is it that a little bit of force is "lost"? If we divide this system into even more blocks, the contact force would gradually become smaller at every pair of blocks, right?
