A look into how you can calculate percentage abundance when you are given the relative atomic mass and relative masses of the isotopes. This is calculated from data from a mass spectrometer and could be asked in A Level Chemistry questions.

I like how you go over the basics as some people might lose focus in between and say "how did that happen?"

what would you do if the element had more than 2 peaks, or would they not ask such a question? great video btw thanks

What do you do if you have more than 2 isotopes in terms of x?

Would they give you more than 2 isotopes for working out the abundance? If so what changes would you make ?

Can you make a video on how to find the species of organic compounds when m/e and relative height is given on table?

Sir How do we know which one is 25 and which one is 75 ? If we multiply 115 with x so its abudance would be 25.
@AlleryChemistry
@AlleryChemistry 7 лет назад
Yes x=25. So 115 must be 25 and the other is 75. They must add up to 100% we are measuring percentage abundance.

but how do you get the relative atomic mass? looked at the video for "calculating relative atomic mass from mass spectra" - the work that I have been given does not give an numerical number for abundance nor a percentage - instead the peaks have the labels of the M/Z - and the Y axis - abundance goes up to 1,000,000 with that limited information I am suppose to figure out the TIC, the M/Zs, and then the percent abundance if someone can get back to me on this super fast that would be fantastic - but im not going to hold my breathe on that thank you though, in the class this is for - the professor hasn't taught shit as far as calculating any of this, and after hours of searching for a calculation (which is absurd) I found this video - which has been extremely helpful - but without the correct relative atomic mass, the calculation means nothing
