I cry of joy every time I saw it... I was born in 1974 ,saw the film so many times...when later I began to ride,I create empathy with my horse,I copied some movement to play with my horse..It was amazing ..thanks to this film, I spent a lot of time with horses and enjoy them so much
I watched this in theaters in SouthAmerica in January 1980.. This was a kids film that really REALLY respects children...There is no one in this film that was the comic relief, a character meant to make children laugh... Nowadays Children, they think will get bored if we do not find a condescending clown to entertain kids. This movie was a serious, artsy film for children and adults alike
Exquisite! Thanks to Criterion for sharing this! (I first saw this film on its first run in theaters while I was in high school,) and I have wanted for so long to hear something like this from Mr. Deschanel on how this gorgeous film was shot! The cinematography and Mr. Coppola's score are perhaps two of the best elements of the film, along with, of course, the performances of Kelly Reno, Cass Ole and the other horses who played "The Black".
I never get tired of watching this movie and the Black Stallion Returns. I don’t know how many times I’ve seen them by now. The combination of beautiful cinematography, unfussy storytelling, natural acting, heart throbbing soundtrack and of course the beautiful Cass Ole parading his proud self in front of the camera is a combination that can’t be beat in my mind.
I just watched it again for the first time in 40 years. And the beach sequence is stunning. Kelly and Black with the music by Coppola no dialogue minimal sound, it’s stunning. And I’m no expert in horses, but riding without saddle and bridal is basically riding the wind, uncontrollable. So the camera operator, indeed, really had to be reactive. And it therefore it looks so organic and esthetic. It actually makes the rest of the movie a bit over produced looking.
@@lnl3237 nah, those criterion titles never drop to a ressonable price for me. I saw The Nicolas Cage movie that he Made though, It looks really pretty
