Caleb Williams will likely be the first quarterback off the board in the 2024 NFL Draft, but should he be? We get into the upside and downside of four different quarterbacks in the second part of our series detailing this year's draft picks. And while we rank out JJ McCarthy, Caleb Williams, Michael Penix and Jordan Travis, some will need time or coaching to have the best opportunity to succeed.

Couple disagreements: 1) The Bears offensive line is supremely underrated. Justin Fields could not get rid of the football on time 99% of the time. Example: Darnell Wright was 3rd highest in time to throw given for RTs, yet allowed some of the most pressures in the league (because Fields couldn’t read a book). Caleb has plenty of in-structure capability on tape at USC and OK that goes well beyond Fields’ even in Y3 2) Calling Keenan Allen old doesn’t change the fact that he’s elite. We also have more talent coming in at 1.09 and have CAR 2nd next year to go along with 2 extra 6ths and the rest of our original picks. 3) Waldron is an upgrade to Getsy if you’re comparing what Caleb will have to what Fields had 4) Name a better team for him to go to within reason? 5) The Bears didn’t earn the 1st pick, in fact at 7-10 they have the best record of any team to pick #1 in the history of the league 6) Chicago, after obtaining Montez Sweat, produced the most turnovers in the league. Without Sweat we went 2-6 and 6-3 with him. The defense has a great secondary and two very strong LBs, too. I respect your opinion but theres a reason Caleb has been viewed as the shoe-in at 1 for 2 full seasons. And this Bears regime is different from past. (Yes Im a Bears fan, clearly)

Not sure how much stock you put into OLine win rates, but Chicago was ranked 5th in pass block win rate and 2nd in run block win rate per ESPN

I dig the push back! 1. The eye test for me said the Bears o-line, the last 3 years, is a bottom half of the league unit. PFF agrees in their rankings (I do take PFF with a good sized grain of salt though). 2. Keenan is good. He is certainly not elite at this stage of his career. Factor in the injuries and there’s a reason the Chargers moved on from an aging player. I can easily think of 15 other receivers I’d rather have right now. 3. I just went through the Waldron experience here in Seattle. The only consistent thing about the offense was it underachieved, the play calling became super predictable and he absolutely refuses to utilize a consistent running attack. He has zero experience developing young qbs too. An upgrade over Getsy… sure, maybe. Not an offensive wizard by any stretch of the imagination. 4. If it weren’t for effing Kingsbury I’d say Washington. 5. True fact the Bears aren’t a traditional 1st pick team here. That does work to Caleb’s advantage. I don’t think their a rookie qb away from being a contender either though. 6. I wouldn’t hang your hat on turnovers. They are a fickle mistress. Just ask Russ and the Broncos during their roller coaster last year. I do think the Bears D is on the rise though. I don’t think there is a gap between OSU Fields and Caleb in terms of in the college pocket play. Caleb creates a ton of his own problems back there holding the ball. There is a lot of exciting play making but there is so little of the NFL meat and potatoes throws on the tape that are necessary for success. Can he figure it out? Maybe. He makes me super uncomfortable. I like the back and forth though. Appreciate it! Adam

@@SeaHawkersPodcast Appreciate the response! I think Fields was a good prospect, but either we ruined him or he didnt progress quickly enough, or a combination of both. He also benefited from the elite OSU OL/WR rooms. He was always a see them come open QB first, I see a lot more anticipation in Caleb's tape. Caleb's release compared to Justin's is also worth noting, even if they processed at the same speed which I don't think they do, Caleb is getting it out a tick quicker. That said, I defended Mitch all 4 years and Fields all 3, so I really am just doing my duty as a fan lol. The bias runs deep. Thanks again for the thoughtful response.

Penix ran a 4.5 40 at his pro day. And has no mobility? These guys need to do their research.

I’m certain we not only mentioned the 40 time but I said it doesn’t look 4.6 on the field. The research was done and stated. Adam

Yall not gonna do the top 3 before the draft? That makes Adam’s rankings a lot less interesting.

So wrong about JJ. He'll be the best QB from the class and make all the doubters look dumb
@SeaHawkersPodcast
@SeaHawkersPodcast 3 месяца назад
Ya know in most drafts I’d say he had a solid shot to be the best in his class 3-4 years down the line. There just happens to be 4-5 guys who have the skills to be super stars. If just one hits their potential I think it’s higher than JJ’s. I like him a lot though and I wouldn’t be surprised if he had the most early success. Adam

Think Caleb is being used to push views idk could be wrong but once the season was over all these narratives about the kid came out.
@SeaHawkersPodcast
@SeaHawkersPodcast 3 месяца назад
I’m totally unfamiliar with the narratives other than he cried after a game and he painted his finger nails or something. None of that stuff bothered me personally. Do you think he’s being overhyped or nit picked to death for the sake of views? Adam

@@SeaHawkersPodcast I think it’s a bit of both I’m a bears fan and the writing is on the wall that he will be drafted here I’ve seen his fun tape and I’ve seen his criticism. And I think conversation about that is all fair game but it seems to get push to the side for fabricated off field issues like you mentioned with the painting nails and crying and his dad and his agent and his girlfriend His sexuality etc. every other show in national media seems to be about what Caleb is doing outside of football.
@SeaHawkersPodcast

Oh wow! I didn’t realize it had gotten that personal in the national discussion. That’s crazy. I understand teams got to make sure a guy isn’t the next Johnny football off the field but this seems over board.

That’s fair! Even if he stays healthy he’s gonna need a good line for sure.
