36: Plays within structure - how it was designed. 14: Plays out structure - results: 8 first down conversions, 2 sacks, 1 fumble. 27/35, 312 yards, 3 passing TD, 1 rushing TD - Washington finished 14-1 After watching 37 of his games, I can confirm: 1. He prefers playing on-script. He is more than proficient when he can't. 2. He finished with a higher completion percentage and passer rating in every year he played. 3. There is one bad Notre Dame game but 35 that look more similar to this.

Caleb's real stats 👇 Within structure: 36 plays (how it was designed) Out of structure: 14 plays (results: 8 first down conversions, 2 sacks, 1 fumble) 27/35, 312 yards, 3 passing TD, 1 rushing TD Washington finished 14-1 Yes, he plays within structure often. Yes, he prefers it. Yes, he plays off-script when he's forced to. Yes, he is proficient at it. Yes, he finished with a higher completion percentage and passer rating in every year he played. As a Chicago Bears fan. I think this is a pretty good game to evaluate Caleb Williams and really compare to what we already have in Fields. Caleb has a little bit more awareness in the pocket and he's elusive with a purpose. He does have a little bit of that Mahomes ability to extend or stick to a play even while running for his life. BUT I seen a lot of him putting the ball on the turf too. And when the pocket collapsed he had troubles just like any other QB would. Caleb might be the most pro ready QB in this draft but he'll still have the growing pains of learning what you can and can't get away with at the NFL level. That'll be tough to go through after witnessing the progress Fields had made. Now bring in context and put Caleb behind that Chicago OL with that receiving core that dropped tons of balls would Caleb have faired any better than Fields did? When given time in the pocket Fields have shown to be an Elite Dual Threat QB.

This kid has talent, nobody can deny that. I’ve seen too many times him staring down one target then he gets sacked or has to evade pressure while still only looking one way. Then there’s times where he escapes the pressure and has a guy open but runs instead. Also the most glaring thing I’ve seen which ties into the one read stuff is the fact that he’s not great at throwing to his check down. It seems like it’s either the one read, scramble and throw it up in hopes that his WR will make a play or scramble then try to make something happen with his feet. No check down, no processing the field, barely throws the ball away when pressured, never scrambles through the middle it’s always the long way which is going back then around the line. I’m not doubting the talent but the intangibles are worrisome and with the fact that he transferred schools in order to stay with his coach shows me might struggle with no coaches/OCs if and when they get fired and new ones get hired. The team that is best fit for him is Washington because his familiarity with Kliff Kingsbury so he won’t have to worry about learning a completely new offence.

@@windycityflier23 5:21 - to give you an idea of what Caleb is dealing with. I've watched all 37 of his games. You are correct, it's a heavy RPO offense, Lincoln gives more freedom to operate with the more confidence he has in the player. When the down and distance gets lengthy, you're looking at screens and long-developing route concepts. Lincoln banks on Caleb to execute them, and it works in his favor more often than not. It's why they led the nation in offense over the last two seasons collectively. The defense is the literal opposite.
@windycityflier23
@windycityflier23 3 месяца назад
@@fantasypolice that’s what holding the ball and taking sacks does. Lloyd had 7.1 ypc so it wasn’t a lack of rushing efficiency. He has issues playing within the scheme. He misses a lot of the quick routes. The only non-broken play or RPO/screen plays he really has are quick hitches vs soft coverage. Don’t get me wrong, I think he’s really talented, I just think sitting a year would be vital for a player like him who needs to adjust or go to a really solid team

We have the ability to gather so much draft capital. He may have a higher ceiling than fields but I’m not seeing this as an immediate upgrade. The bears are no longer in rebuild mode as of next year. Besides those scrambling throws to the sidelines where the defense gave up their leverage, (ask Mitch Trubisky if NFL defenses do that), he was inaccurate on ~4 of 11 on throws deeper than 5 yds from the LOS. Tons of YAC piggybacking him down the field and padding his stats. In clutch (2min and for the lead) situations he bottled up and lost his pocket presence. Careless fumble right before HT. Most of his anticipation throws were "Go get it my guy" throws that you'll soon think twice about if you're not throwing to a healthy AJ Brown every play. He's a younger, slower and smaller Justin Fields. His quicker release doesn't mean as much as one might think as playoff caliber defenses in the NFL froth over checkdown Charlies.
