Went to my friends shop and it helped he had a stand to hold up the cross member to take out both bolts. Easy install. Great videos you guys put out to help with self install.
Installed this morning on my '23 TRD Off Road. Simple to do, tight and secure. No rattling. Great product. Did it in my garage using a 3 ton jack. Just slightly raised each side, one side at a time, for easier access.Tires didn't even come off the ground.
When installing the rubber snubber using a small screwdriver, make certain to sterilise and sharpen the screwdriver so as to make a clean puncture wound in your hand. Bandaids are also recommended.
@@yotaxpedition No problems w/my CaliRaised shields. I’m just experienced. Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that experience comes from bad judgment.
I agree with many of the other comments. Excellent and very easy to understand instructions. The best visual installation video I’ve watched so far. Bravo Zulu 😊
Just installed the shields on my own ‘23 TRD Pro. The one thing I did not hear mentioned in the video is that the replacement bolts and nuts are 9/16” and not metric. Perhaps this is a recent change in packaging. Other than that the install went smoothly, less than an hour to do both sides. Thanks for the super helpful guide!
Terrific easy to follow instructions, especially the 2 front bolts. I used a 6- inch C clamp to lower the back of the brace into position to install the 2 aft bolts after seating the front 2. This just eliminates the need to press, hold & attempt to catch a few threads.
@@yotaxpedition couldn’t agree more on the bolts 3-5 more threads would have been awesome. Like I said though the C clamp put it where I needed it & held it so I was able to get them both seated well. The kit overall is very solid, well built, fits perfect & if the only complaint is not shipping with longer bolts then in my opinion it’s a great kit.
I installed it today on my 2018 5th gen 2WD. It fits perfect no rattling. I spoke with the Cali raised LED rep and they fixed the rattling on the driver side and provided longer security bolts.
So I just received my Cat shields, took me 2 hours to put them on but should have taken 1 hour because I ran into huge problems. First off the driver side is right up against the cat, once I got it in it was okay however the edge of the shield is on my traction line both on the driver and passenger side. I wish I could shear photos here. 2 hours of regretting my purchase it ended up great except for the fact that it’s on my traction lines. At least I think that’s what they are.
Sorry for your troubles. Just a reminder, we do not manufacture this product, we only sell it and made an install video. But we will help the best we can. The driver side on ours touched as well. I think CaliRaised is or did make a change on this problem. My best advice is to add a washer between the cat shield and frame to get it away from the cat just enough. But that will require longer bolts (which the bolts that come with it should be longer).
I actually did, it took me about 15 with my Dremel, deburred everything I could see that was sharp, especially the hanging area part and the cut out for the Cali brand. They were pretty nasty!
great video, clear and thoughtful! I want to ask about those four holes that the two short brackets fastened to the frame, are they nut-serts? is there a nut welded on the inside of the frame cavity? or those holes are just threaded "tunnels"? My 4runner's front sway bar mount hole was damaged due the the welded nut breaking off.
Probably not the answer you are seeking but, respectfully, I would say to just tighten it snug and don't worry too much about the torque specs for something like this.
Yes, and mine is getting worse, as much as I love it I think I'm going to remove the driver side. Mine happens when I accelerate or when I am idling at a stop
Went to install the shields on my 4runner and had a problem with the Security Hardware. It seems the bolts are not long enough so the threads don't catch no matter how much force I use pushing up. I tried the OEM bolts to see if there was a difference and the OEM bolts wouldn't even catch. There seems to be some thickness with the shield and the OEM brackets that is the problem. I have 2 choices...send longer bolts or I will have to return product, which I'd rather not do. Please advise.
Start the threads on the security bolts first, then do the other bolts. It will be a tight fit. If you have any further questions please email us at support@yotaxpedition.com.
Same freaking problem here!! If you add thickness of shield we need a longer damn bolt. The security bolts are shorter than the OEM and even the OEM won't reach.
@@djohnson0753 I was actually able to get them in. Just start the security bolts first about halfway, then do the OEM bolts and it should work. Good luck.
My car started vibrating and rattling at around 400 RPM when the car is on Drive, stopped, and AC turns on. I believe it’s due to the cat touching the shield. Is there any one else with the same problem? How do we create clearance so the car wouldn’t vibrate and give rattling sound? Thank you.
Yeah, the driver side seems to rattle against the cat shield. If you're having problems with this please reach out to Cali Raised LED and see if they can get it sorted for you.
@@existencia3yes I had to modify the shield had to cut about 1 inch off one corner so I could pull it farther from the exhaustwhere it’s touching pulled it toward the ground then tighten it.
@@existencia3i believe I had to cut a triangular shape where it would touch one of the bars when I pulled the shield toward the ground when the bolts are lose where it’s rubbing the exhaust.
What would prevent a thief from just ordering one of these kits for a couple hundred bucks and then they will have the "special" tool. How long would it take to cut that off with a cordless angle grinder?
You really think a thief would go through all that vs just going to the next vehicle that has no protection? Also the price for a scrap cat and the shield kit is almost the same so that would be dumb on the thief's part.
Hey David, same problem here when we did our install. I think CaliRaised is or did make a change on this problem. My best advice is to add a washer between the cat shield and frame to get it away from the cat just enough. But that will require longer bolts (which the bolts that come with it should be longer).
Will these work with cbi skid plates? I know they say they work 99% of all aftermarket skids but with the cbi skids, those brakets are removed and not reinstalled.
I just installed mine on a 2023 ORP. The passenger side is fine but I notice on the driver side, where the CAT has a heat shield and it has a clearing problem. It fitted but leave no gap between the heat shield and the CAT shield. They touched. I notice some vibration when driving. Do you have similar issue or am I installing it properly? Any recommendations? On a side note, Isn’t it weird there’s no heat shield on passenger side but only the drivers side? Thanks
Hey Tim, same problem here when we did our install. I think CaliRaised is or did make a change on this problem. My best advice is to add a washer between the cat shield and frame to get it away from the cat just enough. But that will require longer bolts (which the bolts that come with it should be longer). As far as the driver side cat having a shield and the passenger side not, is most likely the fact that fuel and brake lines run along the driver side.
Folks ! When installing on the Tacoma leave the spacers out and also use stock bolts that hold transmission cross mount. Cali has this change out because the security bolt hole does not line up if spacers used. Yes, Tacoma kit the same as the one install here.
I installed it today on my 2018 5th gen 2WD. It fits perfect no rattling. I spoke with the Cali raised LED rep and they fixed the rattling on the driver side and provided longer security bolts.
