The song that cast a spell on London in the 2012 Olympics opening ceremony. This montage includes the lyrics, set to pictures I took of ceremonies, opening ceremony rehearsals (I was fortunate enough to be a cast member of the Pandemonium sequence), sports, venues and London scenes, during the course of an unforgettable Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The lyrics are quite difficult to hear and I've found different versions online. If you think I've got them wrong, do let me know! Thanks to Chris Daniels for the lovely pictures of and from the Tor.

This morning, while driving to Doncaster, the BBC Radio 4 ‘Today’ program concluded with this enchanting piece of music. As soon as I got home, to Hartlepool, I looked up this morning’s broadcast and, now, here I am listening to it, once more

How true. How fortunate we were to experience it all. I was literally counting the days from 2005 when we were awarded the Games. It was a magical time. I have never felt such pride. How sad it all turned so sour in 2016.

Oh And the rain? tossed about us; In the garden of the world But a flame arrives to guide us; Past the gold between the anvils of the starsWatch you over all the children in the rain; And the streets where I remember Where the fire lights Are candle souls again;Affirming flame, Hear me call; Through the darkness, Hear it call to us allAnd stir again; This beating heart Comes againOh And the drive out all our fears And the joy drive out our pain And the nations come to greet us Waving open arms like waves of golden cornEver hear us, Oh, the spirit of the world May your light be ever near us Always lead us from the dark Though we may fallWe will fly And with love Ever call

Oh my sweet Lord. Its 2018, I just now heard this song. My soul is moved. Beautiful. I found it on a rescue of "Fat Puppy" ; the Vet Clinic in Gambia. I saw and heard only one time... Until tonight.. I'm easily moved from music. I have to be careful. This is worth the chance to not thro me into anxiety or depression. Ill be looking for more from Barry DeVorson and Perry Boykin Jr. TQ.

The correct lyrics are listed on the Wikipedia article about this song, FWIW - there's a link there to a competition with the prize being the signed original lyric sheet that Alex Trimble himself used. facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150993753577849&set=a.87939912848.75768.86185782848&type=1&theater is the direct link to that lyric sheet. And yes, even for native English speakers it's hard to hear the lyrics correctly, hence all the wrong versions out there... especially as some of the phrases (such as "candle souls", for example), aren't something you'll ever hear in normal speech! It's a lovely song and a reminder of the opening ceremony that lifted the spirits of our nation - a magical couple of weeks.

Delius and Holst surely were in attendance just above, bursting together with the pride of the 80,000, that night? I love Evelyn Glennie - Scotswoman, yea, and genius symphonic percussionist (she's profoundly deaf!) , sprinkling tinkling stardust on this magnificent paean to hope and human endeavour. Cultural Paralympian, she! Though we may Fall We will Fly Frieden, Mir and Paix; Ubuntu, Peace and Praises...Salaam and Shalom...

Remember how it felt to be a progressive welcoming country, remember we were, for a short period, the most desirable place to visit in the world, what happened to us to turn us so insular and negative

Well people such as yourself refused to accept the democratic will of the working classes across the UK. That is basically what has caused the division. The people spoke and they voted to leave the EU and the Elites and people who support them then tried everything they could to overthrow the will of the people. It is ironic really when people watch the Pandemonium section of the opening ceremony full of the working classes of the UK 100 years ago and praise them and then insult and refuse to accept the decision of the current working classes. Just as an aside I am working class and the first in my family to attend university. I personally didn't vote for Brexit but fully understood why people chose to leave the EU and at no point did I insult people who voted for Brexit nor did I refuse to honour their democratic decision and personally I do not see any division in our country. I am from a family of immigrants to the UK and what struck me and also surprised me is the high number of immigrants who voted to leave the EU. I do not know one black or Asian person over 40 who voted to stay in the EU, however the rhetoric from the media, is to blame the poor white working class people across the UK, blame people who feel voiceless and as if they have zero stake in the future of their own country. Immigrants from commonwealth backgrounds voted to leave in huge numbers due to the fact that Europeans were given visas over people from countries where people laid their lives down for the UK in the second world war and that was the driving force behind their decision. Stop trying to blame people and work to make our country the way you want it to be, and stop being so negative about our country on social media. It is people such as yourself who believe the media lies and then perpetuate them online which causes such division, also look at the areas of the country which voted for Boris Johnson ( I didn't ) they are areas with large immigrant populations and they were determined to have their voice heard and also to make sure Brexit happened. How dare people from higher classes demonise the working class for their democratic decision, democracy rests on majority rule and you and others like you basically threw a five year tantrum over not getting your way and you are still doing it, let it go and make this country one you can be proud of, volunteer in your community all I have seen since Covid is good people coming together to help and support others and we are doing it right now to gather supplies for the thousands of Afghan refugees we have taken in to give them a start and some hope. I have details of ways you can help if you wish to know then let me know and I will give you contact info on how to help them.

@@murdershe......7378 brilliant, leave voters get what they wanted, it doesn't work, so they blame the other side, amazing
@murdershe......7378
@murdershe......7378 3 года назад
@@scottsharp3917 I didn't vote for Brexit as I stated in my earlier comment and if it doesn't work then they will eventually learn that they made a mistake and will regret it. If we do not have democracy then we have nothing. I tried to talk my parents into not voting for Brexit and they let me know they were determined so I didn't waste my time or breath trying to convince them otherwise. Do you think it was correct for the media and Elites to try to overthrow their democratic will? I do not believe it was correct and it doesn't matter which side had won either. I would stand up for the result and the majority decision, regardless which way it went. If votes mean nothing then why bother even having elections? I listened to my middle and upper class friends tear into the working classes, the typical Guardian talking points and rhetoric blaming the working classes calling them uneducated, stupid and all sorts of other terms and it opened my eyes to the classism in this country in a way nothing else has ever done. We all have an equal voice, they voted out they meant it and most had valid reasons for choosing out. I am just sick and tired of people still whining over the result years on, and if people blame the other side, it is usually for trying to stop the result being honoured in the first place, it has built up a level of resentment there among the working class and they are still furious over it. The result should have been honoured immediately and people should have been determined to make it a successful transition and not tried to throw spanners into the works continually. People vote in their own best interests and always will. My parents voted for Brexit and they do not regret it, they are still happy over their decision and I still think it was a wrong choice and most people from my own generation didn't want it but older people did and they have as much right to their view point as I have to mine. I am pleased we have accepted the Afghan refugees into the UK let us hope this is the start of our country becoming open again and welcoming to people in need. We should try to help people who have nothing and do our best to be a safe haven for anybody who needs it.

+Meshakhad Absolutely amazing - 4 years on, it still gives me goosebumps just thinking about it! Was such a thrill to have access to the park and stadium before the Games - and to build an incredible bond with the other cast members during hours of rehearsals. As for the night itself... Unforgettable - the atmosphere was completely electric. When we finished our sequent our producer said over our in-ear monitors: "congratulations, you're now part of London's cultural history forever'. Says it all, really :)
