While the Kindle is an amazing device for reading, it isn't the best when it comes to its compatibility with popular ebook formats. That's where Calibre (calibre-ebook.com) comes to the rescue.
In addition to managing your ebooks better, it converts your books to the Kindle compatible MOBI format, transfers the books to your kindle without the need for WiFi.
It also has the ability to modify the metadata of books and download book covers to complete your library.
In this tutorial, we will learn about using Calibre to manage your e-book library better.

@@SouvikSays bro, I really loved this one, was looking for simple guides and you've provided me with them. I have one major concern tho regarding this method, i. e., a lot of the serious non-fiction books that I read contain major illustrations. When I used an epub converter website, it'd do just fine, but when I'd do book with illustrations, it'd like put all the illustrations in the wrong place. Have you any experience with such books? Your response is severely appreciated.

Illustrations are a known issue. Only saving grace Calibre has is the page setup where you can specify which device you are converting the epub for. That partially takes care of the formatting issues. My suggestion would be to make a trial conversion and see if it helps.

You need to ensure that your Kindle is connected to your Laptop with the provided usb cable (or any other high quality cable) and that it is not in a "Charge Only" mode

Try a few things: 1. Ensure that your Paperwhite is recognised when you connect it over USB. If that doesn't happen, update the USB driver 2. Change the cable (try to use the one that came with the paperwhite or any other high quality one). 3. Update calibre One of them should definitely work. Good luck!

This is my friend's second Kindle. ru-vid.comUgkxOnUR4NaproSbBbD2sdI4XcDZ58Jz8GOx The first one which is about 5 or 6 years old quit charging because the bottom connector went bad. When I saw they upgraded to a USB C connector I knew it was time. I think the old USB Micro connectors are a PIA. Her new one is great. It synced right out of the box and connected to WiFi immediately. The thing is perfect! Sooo mine will arrive tomorrow. (Been reading off an old Fire) What bugs me are the reviewers that give this product one star because it didn't work out of the box or they were too dumb to figure it out. If it doesn't work send it back and get another one. It couldn't be easier with Amazon. Giving it one star because it didn't work says nothing about a good one that does work. I bet a bad one is one in a thousand or more. Give it a break...just get another one.

Helpful hint: If Calibre does not show the "Send to Device" button after connecting the USB to the device it means that the device is not set up to allow Calibre to download books onto the device. This is solved by connecting the USB to the device, clicking on the "System - Charging this device via USB" option on the pull-down menu, and tapping for other USB options. The device will take you to the USB Preferences menu where you need to select "File Transfer". Now you should be able to download from Calibre to your Kindle/Fire device.

Hi, could you tell me where to find this drop down menu? I have this kindle for like 3 days, and the only thing it says when it's plugged into my computer is "if you wanna charge but browse the store *and more*, just disconnect but keep it plugged in to your pc". Which is fine, but I have no menu whatsoever :( Please help!

Richard is referring to a Fire device I think. You should see the "Send to Kindle" option on Calibre if you are receiving the message. If not, just try using a different cable to connect.

Still a great guide as of September 2019. P.S If anyone can't find 'Send to device' then check that you have unlocked the passcode on your kindle physically. I had that problem.

Make sure you have connected your Kindle using the cable that came in the box and the device is not on the lock screen. It should work. If not, check if there are any USB driver updates on your PC.

Hey Souvik, today is Black Friday, 11/24/23, and I just bought an Amazon Fire 7 tablet with a 7” display, with 10-hour battery life (2022 release), 16 GB, and Black for my niece for Christmas. I also have a list of ebooks I want to load on it before giving it to her. My question is, can I use Calibre to do this, or does it only work on Amazon Kindle tablets exclusively? Thanks for any info you can provide, and a BIG thank you for this video. It's by far one of the more thorough and easy-to-follow videos I've come across today. -Much respect and appreciation

Hey Marty, a Fire tablet is completely different from a Kindle E-reader. Calibre won't work on it. If you are planning to load the e-books on the Kindle app in the Fire tablet, try the "send to Kindle" method. www.amazon.com/sendtokindle I hope this helps. Cheers! And Happy Thanksgiving.

oohh cool! I was watching some videos about how to format documents on Calibre but I was SO confused about the kindle part, now it makes sense, thank you for your video! I´m considering getting a kindle but the documents I would read there... are not conventional! But this will help a lot! Thank you! Now I need to choose the correct kindle, they´re more expensive than I thought but I believe it will be better for my eyes

Is it appearing in your Kindle library on your e-reader? If yes, then you can download it on to your app as well. If no, then email it to the kindle email ID for your account (can be found under settings). I hope that this helps.

hi i have this issue where when converting the file to mobi it has been 30 minutes and yet its still on 1%. please let me know what i could do to speed things up/fix the issue

There can be 2 potential reasons for this: 1. The book you are trying to convert is DRM protected 2. The language is not supported I would suggest that you cancel the operation and try to convert once again. Of the issue persists, try converting another book. If the issue is still there, see if there is an update for Calibre available. That's the maximum I can suggest without experiencing the issue first hand.

Can I just say, I absolutely hate Calibre. It has changed all my Word files so that every time I try to open them, I have to do so through their god awful software that looks like it was made in the 1980s. It is possibly the most un-userfriendly software I have ever used and I can`t get it off my computer. Use an alternative and save yourself the hassle of this shit on the sole of the devil`s shoe.

Where can I get free ebooks. I notice a lot of sellers sell with preloaded books. By some top authors. Sometimes 1000 plus books. I’m disabled so don’t have a lot of money but love reading as bed bound and would love to be able to access more book.

Is there a way to transfer pirated books to the kindle app? I don't know how but there is two PDFs on my shelf but I don't know how that happened and I need to upload more books there. Plz help

Though I wouldn't recommend piracy, the process explained in the video works for all books. Just make sure that you convert the book to .mobi and then transfer the mobi file, not the original pdf/epub. Hope this helps.

If you want to send it to the kindle app on your phone or tablet, Calibre wouldn't be of any help. It is only meant for the physical e-reader. To transfer a book to the app, you need to move it to the cloud first. Your kindle would have an associated email ID (can be found under settings and should be called "Send to Kindle email address"). Email the mobi file to that email ID. It will show up in your library. You can then download it on to your device.

There are 2 options in that case: 1. Try other micro USB cables which you may have and hope one of them works 2. You need to convert the books to mobi and then transfer to your Kindle by moving the converted books to the cloud. this works perfectly except when i add the book to my kindle the cover disappears. i put one on my pc and when i transfer to the kindle the cover is there for a second or two then disappears. any help?

Try updating Calibre. Happened with me for a while. Once I updated, it was gone.

@@SouvikSays I fixed it :^) all i had to do was: connect kindle -> upload book on kindle -> disconnect kindle -> wait for cover to disappear -> reconnect kindle -> eject it from the calibre app -> then when u look at the kindle the cover is there. updating didnt really do anything

That's interesting. My problem with disappearing cover was due to some restrictions introduced by Amazon. Old version of Calibre was not able to bypass the restrictions. It was fixed in a newer version.

Hey, I just got my kindle Paperwhite and transfered one of my converted books in mobi format to the kindle. However sometimes I am getting stretched out text passages. Nothing serious but you might have a fix for that? Only a few words in three or four following rows. Thanks for the video!

Did you convert pdf files to mobi? If yes, then the issue can be attributed to it. If not, make sure that you pick the correct device in the page setup when converting a book. Third, check for an updated version of Calibre. Updates tend to solve known bugs and issues.

Happens with me a few times as well. I usually delete the book and send it to my device once again. That fixes the issue 99% of the time.

Probably because calibre doesn't support acsm files. Are you sure you picked the correct file? As far as I know, Google Books are in epub format.

First, you cannot push an epub to your Kindle without converting it to mobi. Assuming that you're doing the conversion, you have the option of picking the cover before you start the conversion process. Try it out and do let me know if it works.

Here's what I found: Amazon recently changed how cover art works with sideloaded content on Kindle devices and it has caused an issue that makes book covers disappear. Basically if the book doesn’t have a valid ASIN that corresponds with Amazon’s server then the cover image will get overwritten with a generic thumbnail image. If you’re having problems with cover art disappearing on sideloaded books on your Kindle, then you need to update to the latest version of Calibre. With version 4.17 they added a fix for the disappearing cover thumbnails issue. Basically all you need to do is plug your Kindle into your computer after the cover images have disappeared and Calibre will fix the problem automatically-you don’t need to resend the books.

TLDR, you are probably using an older version of Calibre. Just update it and connect your Kindle to your computer with the new version of Calibre installed. That should fix it. Let me know if that helps.

I'm not aware of any such requirement. I have used calibre to transfer books to my Kindle while wi-fi was switched on and connected to my network. Hope this helps.

It's my "personal" collection 😉 Mostly stuff I would have downloaded when there were offers on amazon or Google play books. Some of them were shared by friends as well. Other than that, there are many sources on the internet where you can find books for free as long as you are OK with not bothering about copyright.

Excellent !! ... Unfortunately, this works for english pdfs only. Any idea how to convert hindi pdf to kindle compatible format? ... I tried to convert using calibre, but hindi fonts are not displayed properly in kindle. Anyone else done the conversion of hindi pdf pls help !!

I have tried it myself and it worked fine (converting hindi pdf to kindle compatible format). I followed the exact same steps which I've outlined in the video. Please check if the pdf you are using is DRM protected.

I also changed the input and output format to kindle in the page setup, which i didn't do earlier, but the result is same. The hindi words do not appear properly in the final converted format.I tried 2 hindi pdfs but with same result. Though the hindi fonts appear perfect in pdf. If it's possible to share your mail id i would like to send you the hindi pdfs for you to try.
