A classy animated sequence for a classy guy, Mike Douglas: my all-time favorite daytime talk show host! with a smile in his face and a twinkle in his eye, he brought the best out of his guests and had a good time with them!

I can watch The Mike Douglas Show intro 24/7: So upbeat, so classy... The Hour Magazine one's a close 2nd!

It seems like just about every other sitcom used that same effect that Calico used...the stop-motion technique. I always wondered whether there was a name for it.

God, I love old TV!

I recall this show from when I sometimes stood home sick from school. It used to air on CBS right before "The Price is Right."

I think the first season of "Family Ties" used this type of amimation.

in 1980 with his ratings still at an all time high--Mike Douglas had his show cancelled by Group W who wanted to target a younger demographic-which led to the John Davidson show that lasted all of one season before it was cancelled

I believe it was a lifestyles/self-improvement daytime series that was designed to appeal to a largely female audience.

Mike Douglas was the inspiration to many of today's talk shows. Rosie O'Donnell has admitted she ultimately got into television because she grew up watching the Mike Douglas' show. Interestingly most of the years his show was done in Philadelphia--at KYW--when a guest was booked most of the time they flew into NYC and took a limousine to Philadelphia to do the show. Mr. Douglas was also one of the biggest boosters of Philadelphia and especially their sports teams--he had many of the Eagles and Flyers as guests on his show
