It's time for Calico Ghost Town, then & now! Vintage Photos help tell the story of this abandoned silver mining town, which was then restored and turned into a theme park like attraction, and later handed over to the county of San Bernardino. See what the town was like in the days when Walter Knott of Knott's Berry Farm owned it and was building it up, and see how it compares to what's here now!
Normally I film at least twice a year in Calico but this year I'm lagging behind! Subscribe & check out the past Calico videos on this channel for even more adventures in the Oooold West !

I had no idea it was technically a county park. The slanted house holds very dear memories to me. I can’t get enough of these past and present comparisons!

I remember Calico before Walter Knott. The mine was always cold and as I remember there was only about three or four buildings that were open, ore cart tracks ( bridges ) were across the canyon to the other side going to several mines, Walter had them removed and the mine entrance were plugged for safety. Fond memories before Walter and progress.

I love how Justin said the well dressed tourists must have turned off the side of the road to see what was going on. He can really paint a picture, and cares about all the details ❤

I've been there many times between the late 60s to the late 80's. Both as a Boy Scout on camping trips to a young adult searching for adventure (and abandoned mines to enter). I wish I had some photos to share with you but they were all lost while moving across the country. The video brings back a ton of memories. Thank You, Justin.

I'm from Baltimore and my aunt took the family here and Knott's Berry Farm on our visit out west. I still have pictures from our trip in 1981 in books around here somewhere, along with brochures and a wooden chip from one of the vendors. You brought back great memories!!! Thank you so much for the trip down memory lane with my 10 year old grandson. I wish I had money to relive my 11 year old experience with him.

When you started talking about the the lower parking lot. By seeing the cables & that area I realized. When my family & I went to Calico in the mid 80's. They use to have mining cars, That would take you up to the top to the town. When I watched your video, I did not know that Calico was even still open. I am glad to see it still is. Good job on this video. Keep up the good work.

I know those mine cars were in use during the 90s. My grandma, mom and myself would take the stairs. My grandpa had mobility issues so he waited for the cable cars. I’m so glad you showed that.

This is the Best Calico Ghost Town video ever!!! You go to places within the town no one else can find i.e. Sam's Place, n inside the Maggie Mine hole which is a little creepy!!! You are loaded down with colourful information and Walter Knott was a great philanthropist with unending ideas and ways to get things accomplished!!!! Loved the Bottle House n the Train too!!! Attaboy, Justin Scarred!!!

There's actually a campground at Calico which is literally right next door the ghost town and it's a great way to visit Calico and the neighboring areas. Just set up your tent, or RV or trailer, pay the fee and you're good to go.

Lovely tour and history! My family would visit calico often in 50s and 60s. I remember walking up the hill from the lower parking lot. I believe that was the only entrance back then. We would pack a picnic lunch and carry it up the hill. There were picnic tables in the ruins by the general store. Magical place then and now. Same is true for Knots Berry Farm.

Great detective work, Justin!!! It's super cool that your interest in Calico is so sincere that you've been visiting n researching it so often throughout the years, finding the original 1960's entrance to the town was a ride into it in ore cars!!! How Cool 😎🤠!!!! Double Attaboy Justin Scarred,!!!!
