I'm not going to lie. Even with that salary, the cost of living still isn't making it worth the move if you're buying a home in California, plus no state taxes in Texas&Florida. Just Google 500k home in California and try that for Texas and Florida. Money just look different in almost any other state. 160k in Cali isn't going to be that comfortable vs 110k in Florida or Texas a 500k home is worth millions in Cali
@NursesToRiches
@NursesToRiches 6 месяцев назад
If you're comparing only state vs state and not cities in one state vs cities in another state, then sure, Texas and Florida win. But if you're strategic about it, you'd move to a low-cost-of-living city in California with high wages and you'd be way better off than any other state, even when you take taxes into account. Another thing you aren't noting is that even though Texas doesn't tax your income, it has one of the highest property tax rates in the country. It's like 44th on the list of states and territories with the highest taxes (1 being the best, 51 being the worst). Monica and I only worked 19 and 16 hours, respectively, per week last year and still had over $14,100 left over every month after 401k contributions and FSA deductions.

I’m suspicious of advocating for Cali nursing it’s not really as good as they make it seem.. plus taxes and housing trust me 150k a year quickly turns into 110k (90k w 401k)take home l, that you spend on your 3k a month rent, 800/month car w insurance , and 2k a month on food/gas so roughly 6k don’t forget California registrations expensive af my sister paid $600 to renew her yearly tag. So yea if u live frugal you might save but u won’t be living like a king by any means.

How about talking about other states other than California. You have 20+ videos about "Why move to Cali.", "Why Cali is better than XXX", "How much money you can make in Cali", "Let's break down how much to you make at each Cali hospital". We get that you LOVE California, but make videos about other states (not comparing other states to California). Not everybody wants to move to California, regardless of the pay.
@NursesToRiches
@NursesToRiches 7 месяцев назад
I just compared California to four other states in this video. Isn't that what you just asked for? I discussed topics that are unrelated to pay amongst those states and you can make your own decision about where you want to move but if we're strictly speaking about the nursing profession, I am not going to tell nurses to work in a state that does not have nurse-to-patient ratio laws, poor parental leave, no laws that force employers to provide their employees paid sick leave or meal breaks. I'm also most definitely not going to promote a state that undervalues their nurses and pays them as much as someone without a college degree who works at a fastfood restaurant or department store... That makes no sense to me. Sorry.
@NICU_Guy
@NICU_Guy 7 месяцев назад
@@NursesToRiches Just because a state doesn't require mandatory ratios and meal breaks does not mean that the nurses are working unsafe ratios without a break. There is a nursing shortage and nurses have options. If they are not happy with a hospital, they move on to other hospitals in the area. Not everything is solved by the government getting involved. I work at a non-union hospital group in a state without mandates. I have excellent pay in a VLCOL area. Low patient to nurse ratios and get my lunch break and two 15 min. breaks at the same time every workday. If your employer treats you right, you don't need the state government to get involved. Having the state government mandate every aspect of your life is not always a good thing. Maybe that is why California has been losing so many residents to Texas, TN, and Florida.
@NursesToRiches
@NursesToRiches 7 месяцев назад
I get your point but that's the beauty of this profession. If you don't want to work in a state that pays you 1.5x after 8 hours or double time after 12 hours and on your 7th day of work, that's your choice. If you ever want to have kids and are ok with relying on your employer to give you time off without the job protections you may receive from a state's government, that's your choice. If you want to work in a state that doesn't give concrete guidelines to hospitals that must be followed with regards to nurse-to-patient ratios, that's your choice. I'm not telling you where you have to work but I am stating facts about the states I speak about. In California, these things are guaranteed. You don't have to go searching for an employer who provides these benefits. If you've never worked in California, you will not understand these things. And if you are happy where you are, with all of the benefits you've mentioned, why not tell everyone about it instead of resorting to talking about how California is losing its residents. I guarantee, the nurses who are leaving California are nowhere near the same percentage of those in other professions. You can see this from the comments in almost every video where travel nurses have confirmed that California is the best state to work as a nurse.
