California voters in November will get the chance to decide whether to roll back a law that has been blamed for rampant theft. abc7.com/post/prop-47-califor...
Californians voted yes for that law back in 2014, it had nothing to do with Gavin Newsom since he wasn't in charge of the state at that time. He might not be without reproach, but you can't blame all the ills of California on him. Californians themselves do have a hand in all the bad things that are happening in their state, with all the permissive laws they've been passing over the years. You can't send a criminal to jail if the law says the specific crime he's committed doesn't warrant jail time. If you can't change the people's behavior, change the laws, and they will behave for sure.
A lot of people don’t read what the proposition is. They just look at the title and vote. They labeled it the “Safe neighborhoods and schools act.” Yeah that worked out well.
@@omi_god Then the criminal demographic can escape poverty by staying in prison and away from the general public. People like you are the reason why criminals don't fear the law anymore. 🙄
@omi_god Where there are character disorders, an unrealistic sense of entitlement, and hedonism, there is crime. Poverty isn't the reason for organized crime reselling stolen merchandise. Take your naive and PC view of the universe and get a clue.
Read law carefully , at the end she mentions money being spent on helping people, we just spent 25 billion helping the same people with nothing to show for it. its a tax increase not a clean repeal.
Two days ago, they just reported that homelessness locally had RISEN from last year, so nothing is accomplished with all those billions spent. And they just took away the tree planters and tubs local businesses had put on the sidewalk to deter homeless living in encampments on their door steps and unable to run their businesses. Funny that homeless encampments don't need permission to take over public sidewalks, but the businesses were not granted the space to protect themselves. And they pay taxes to the city, the homeless DON'T.
Yes! The only thing that would change is we will spend more money on mental health. In exchange they were lower the thief price from 999 to 949 (50 dollars) and maybe crack down on some drugs. It's a joke.
Exactly. This is the news running propaganda for Sacramento. It’s not a repeal, it actually justifies spending even more money while not changing the theft threshold. The average viewer will think it’s a repeal because they are phrasing it that way. Manufactured consent
@@omi_god Bullshit. They absolutely do. Where the fuck are you at? Judges here in the Bay and SoCal keep releasing criminals. These punks are REPEAT OFFENDERS. Get your shit straight.
Read law carefully , at the end she mentions money being spent on helping people, we just spent 25 billion helping the same people with nothing to show for it.
@stridersmythe8860 yup. Lawmakers always put shit together with nice thing. They paint the shit with nice color, and voter will buy. Californian needs to think why they have so many free to go criminals and vote right.
That is what they did to increase traffic while taking away money for other things in LA. They called taking away driving lanes to put in Bus and Bike only lanes as Beautify LA by claiming they were improving sidewalks and adding trees to provide more shade yet there is no budget to make the changes to the streets and after it passed they said each city has to find a way to come up with the money to pay to add in the bus and bike lanes because they will not get a penny to go towards it and they must make the change on every street that needs any work done on the street. Increase traffic delays by calling it a beautification project to get it passed since people don't read the full description of the prop if they think it's a good thing for the city then suffer from the prop immediately afterwards.
That would be on the ballot, but democrats are fighting against it. Just like the Uber bill, they didn’t like that it didn’t pass so they passed there own version even though voters went against it
Before the election that put Gascon in office in southern California, there was a home invasion burglary in our neighborhood one evening, three masked intruders pistol whipped the homeowner. It was during a World Series game, and everyone was home watching it on TV, but the bold thieves still committed this crime. The police were present and a canine, but no one was found, and it went unsolved. But a neighbor standing near by said that he had two friends (police officers) up in the Bay area where Gascon had been, and this neighbor said those police officers warned him that if Gascon won the local election, 'you'll be sorry.' Boy, are we EVER! That was when the mantra was 'not to call a police officer when a crime was committed, call a SOCIAL WORKER instead.'
I’m black and agree with this completely so what are you talking about? why be a child on the internet? Don’t push away voters of color you idi0t mr victor carrera 😂
@omi_god Crime has gotten worse sense prop 47 California in New York City have the worst crime rate. Than anywhere else in the u.s In both states are extremely relaxed on crime, it Proves itself Democratic states or the worst states to live in
$350 per theft? $350 a day? Theft is theft. It should all be a crime. Otherwise, only luxury stores are protected. Why should it be open season on mom and pop stores?
The dollar threshold isn't the problem. Before Prop 47, anyone who had prior convictions for theft would be charged as felon even if they stole something worth $1. That's what got these serial thieves. Prop 47 got rid of that. Now you can steal 10 times in a row and it's still a misdemeanor.
We are so slow to respond to anything. We debate everything to death in our legal system which takes forever. We need to fast track this stuff. Act now and debate later.
Nope. Liberals do that. They argue ad nosium, use exceptions as the rule, and refuse to incarcerate even when the criminal is clearly violent and unrepentant. It's the california way IMO. Cali citizens need to get their heads out of their rear.
Knowing Californians (and Democrat voters in general), it sounds like they are going to replace a dumb policy with an even dumber policy. The policies are always based on “trying to help marginalized people” rather than uphold the law and to have policies that apply to all instead of just a few.
@@genxx2724 You’re absolutely right! No state has a flawless record of helping the homeless and addicts than California. Stopping homeless people and drug addicts from coming to California is brilliant! Because we know all of California’s unhoused population and drug addicts are from other states. Very smart reply! 🙄🤦♂
its a weak bill but it's a start... the State is doing everything in their power not to build new prisons... that's how Proposition-47 became a thing....
@@omi_god that's a liberal lie . The reason we are having a mental health crisis is because of the lenient on crime laws. Ppl who do drugs would go to jail , sober up and not get smoked out and develop mental health issues. Now with this pro criminal lenient on crime laws , drug addicts get as high and they want and not be forced to sober up in jail . So they develop mental health issues from the prolonged drug use. And unfortunately there is no coming back from that .
@@omi_god it's simple raise the threshold to the point that makes a person think twice before doing the crime. In some countries the hand that stole is removed, in others a public canning is used still others 10 lashes is used. Kinda drastic for sure but it does work....
@omi_god. Actually penalties DO DECREASE crime and recidivism. It makes criminals and would-be criminals think twice about committing crimes if they will face harsh penalties and sentences. Also repeat offenders won't be committing any new crimes since they would be in jail. And you don't reduce poverty by making EVERYONE ELSE poor. You do it with conservative fiscal policies, like Trump did when he was president. The poverty rate dropped tremendously to its lowest level since the 50's and 60's for Americans.
I live here. 80% of California is Hispanic and most of them are illegal. That's a huge Blue/Dem voting pool right there. That's how Bass got elected for Mayor or Carruso. So it's basically criminals and scofflaws voting
EXACTLY!!! I almost confused by exactly what they are trying to do. You almost need to have a law degree to figure out what they are writing into these laws.
I voted no on this prop and just about every prop for the last 20 years, but the election is always rigged, so there is no possibility of chance, unless they get rid of mail in ballots where pets, illegals, none residents, dead people, and photo copied ballots, can be added to the votes.
Dont hold your breath. We voted for Prop 47, Gascon, Pamela Price, and Nesom. We had the chance to recall Gascon and Newsom and it failed. Why do you think it will be different this time? People get the government they deserve.
no shit. Middle ground Californians= non voters... all talk, no action. I get so pissed when I hear people say they just aren't going to vote. Sure you are because they vote for you.
Newsom they said his term was almost over so thought it was pointless to recall him and instead vote in a new governor instead of allowing his deputy governor to take over.
@@vxy357Yup-I’m a Democrat but I hate the progressive element in the party and I keep moving further towards the middle. SO tired of this nonsense. Texas has the right idea where it comes to crime.
This is what happens when you auto Yes on propositions. Most people battle for their candidates on the ballot but the real war is on those propositions.
The homeless industrial complex, and the private security industrial complex is now a thing.... Including lobbies and govt contracts. As long as homelessness and security is a problem, billions will continue to be spent on these... Think about that for a second before you think this new bill will actually solve anything. So no. This new bill will be made to not solve the problem. But instead make more gravy for the above mentioned gravy train.
Another clear indicator that the Californian voting majority should start voting the opposite way they think they should vote. How many indicators are needed? What have they been smokin?
A little too late but I'll take it. Angelenos, while voting for this measure to pass, don't forget to vote for "the other guy that's not Gascon" for District Attorney come November 5. Thanks!
I do not remember voting on this law. if it does get reversed, then we’re looking at a shit ton of people who are going to be filling the courthouses downtown.
this has always been a budgetary issue. if you keep arresting people and giving them felonies, it costs the city way more money to jail these people than to just let them go. this was never meant to be good for the public.
We KNEW when they passed that initiative, it would result in more crime, but it's like they would just sweep it under the carpet. They didn't see how bad it could end up.
This prop needs to reformed. Theft is theft. That porch pirate who stole my $125 Reebok’s is a thief. How many times has it happened to me? Several. There need to be consequences.
They better not have bundled this with a new tax. Every year there is a new tax to help homeless people and it doesn’t work.Lets just force them to relocate into asylums or jail.
They are twisting the story, the issue isn't the law bit the lazy DA's refusing to enforce the law. OC DA was offering to handle the cases since he was only only one actually prosecuting those committing those crimes. People have figured out since they aren't going to get prosecuted they shouldn't be scared to commit the crime everywhere but in the OC.
AMEN. I’m so happy that I live in the OC. We had a billboard that says “WE PROSECUTE” Thugs coming down here from L.A. didn’t like those billboards and whined about it.
@@vxy357 I think basically because it implies that all the riffraff come down here from Los Angeles to try the same crap that is allowed in L.A. and they’re insulted by it. The criminals don’t like it because there’s actually a D.A. that believes in enforcing the law and allows law enforcement to do their jobs and arrest criminals. It’s like a warning that if you pull the same crap down here that you can get away with in L.A., you’re gonna get arrested because OC don’t play. The D.A. actually supports our police force.
And you’re a sister fucking redneck with an iq less than your shoe size- see we have our assumptions about you too bud except your governor aint responsible for your shit behavior, you are champ.
