The Duke of Westminster’s home is in Cheshire and near Chester, in the North West Of England. Where I live. Eaton Hall is their residence, although much of his life is lived in London. The Grosvenors are a major part of every day life in Chester. I actually went to school at a little village school next to the Grosvenor Estate! and my school attended the coranation celebration of Elizabeth II at Eaton Hall given by the 5th Duke of Westminster, Hugh Grosvenor’s grandfather. Hugh Grosvenor is getting married in a few weeks at Chester Cathedral, that will be a big event for our City, it will be attended by Royalty, possibly even King Charles & Queen Camilla? but most definitely by Prince William, as he also has the title The Earl of Chester. We look forward to it. 👍
I was working as a secretary in the PR department of a bank and was one of the attendees to a charity lunch where the guest of honour was Gerald Grosvenor. Before the lunch I had the great pleasure of meeting him. As he went to shake my hand ‘Call me Gerry’ he said and proceeded to chat with me for a number of minutes. He was lovely and very ordinary. I was very sad when I heard he’d passed away.
My husband and his dad worked for the Grovenor family in Chester for over 30 years running one of their farms. . They were very generous and regularly visited the farm walking around the cows and coming in the house for tea and cake. They threw great party's so ive been told.
Hi! thanks for checking out our video :) it seems your channel reacts to British culture videos from a Californian perspective - a very cool niche. People used to get knighted as a reward for services either political or military to the king. The Grosvenor Estates in London own the freehold’s of large parts of Mayfair and. Belgravia which are the most prestigious and most expensive areas of London. They lease them out on leases ranging up to 75 years to either companies or individuals and almost all the foreign embassies in London are housed in properties owned by the Grosvenor Estates.
As soon as you started this video I knew it would be the Duke of Westminster. He owns the most expensive areas of London. To buy a house in one of those areas would cost tens of millions of pounds.
It's good to welcome your return in 2024. I always enjoy your laid back reflections on the videos you review. This video, though about a very interesting subject and England's wealthiest family, is produced terribly poorly. The narrative and the images rarely match. The commentary is wooden and spoken in an accent more typical of programmes produced in the 1950s and 60s. One of the Westminster cousins was at school with me. As with most old-money boys, he never presented an aura of wealth and was truly just another boy, indistinguishable from others in our dorm/house. It was the upwardly mobile boys who put on airs, not those who were comfortable with and born into money.
Just ignore the vast majority of the images- 90% of which in the earlier segments are often centuries removed from the narrative they supposedly illustrate! Also some are from film and TV, or not UK images at all. I think most Brits with any knowledg of history/ families of huge wealth would know this would be about the Dukes of Westminster.
Yes the marshland was drained by building a canal, the gravel & sand extracted & sold the space Refilled with the spoil from the building of londons Docks & then luxury housing built on the newly created land that was leased not sold outright & Still continues this does not include land & properties in overseas territories (that at one time lncluded a large part of Manhatten Island New York)!!
I knew it was the Duke of Westminster. My dad used to tease me as a kid if I wanted something expensive and say did I think he was the duke of westminster. And yes to own a studio apartment in these areas will set you back 7 figures. Homes run to many 10's of millions.
Is the Grosvenor family well known? I believe it's my first time hearing about this influential family that has been around for so long! Next time I'm in London, I'll look out for their crest.
The Dukedom of Westminster is very well known. The current Duke's father (6th Duke) funded the new injured soldiers and veterans' rehabilitation centre, The Defence and National Rehabilitation Centre (DNRC).
Yes, the former Duke of Westminster was very well known, liked and respected. The new Duke of Westminster is becoming well known. He is very important, being a close friend of the Prince of Wales. I think we in Britain are lucky that the richest landowner in Britain is a decent and benevolent gentleman. I have to hand it to the Grosvenor family, they have earned their position in society. It's truly amazing they've been around for nearly a thousand years.

The old, old Duke went to a estate house and nocked on the froot door, the person in his house sayed come round the back. The Duke was very annoyed so he had every front door of all the estate houses bricked up, after all if all you need is a front door, stuff you.
Mayfair is probably the richest area in any city anywhere in the world there are houses there that are "worth" £250 million Great British Pounds + it's home to oil tycoons and the like
The crown fund is slightly bigger. The Royals wealth is so misreported it isn't funny. They own artworks, Diamonds and land that is pretty much priceless. Don't listen to "The King is only worth 500m" it's utter nonsense.
CROWN ESTATE own most of the property, land, jewellery and artworks . That most people consider to be owned by the royals. They are an independent commercial business. Set up by Parliament in the 1700s to make a profit for the Exchequer from the royals. In the tax year 2022/23 thay made £442.6 million profit. For the taxpayers.
If you want a good education from London Colleges it cost you , Colleges continued to achieve investment growth in 2021-22 as stock and property markets recovered from the Covid downturn, with total "College Endowments valued at £6.4bn at the year end"
As an American you can only have an honorary knighthood such as the one given to Colin Powell but if you're a Brit all you have to do is donate a considerable amount of money to the Tory Party. I expect it works with Labour too.
@@andysadler6432 only the king can also make Barons and lords, sure they can be substituted on the day but the King has to sign it off. Knights are still put up for recomendation like the other two.
