I have been to Starbucks twice. The first time I had a plain iced coffee and it was like drinking iced water with a hint of coffee and the second time I had a plain skinny latte and I think they forgot to put any coffee in at all. I will stick to Costa, Nero and independent coffee shops.🤣
In every town or city I’ve been in the U.K. I tend to see branches of Starbucks, Caffè Nero and Costa plus various independent or smaller chain coffee shops so it’s very much a shared market which sustains a number of retailers.
Asking if we have Starbucks is like asking if we having running water! I guess there was some excitement 25-30 years ago, before we realised Costa was better. Let you off tho 🤣
I'm from West Yorkshire in the North of England, and in Bradford, my nearest city, there used to be a Starbucks upstairs in Waterstones a large bookshop. It was very mediocre and eventually closed down. Waterstones now run their own coffee shop and both food, drink and atmosphere are much nicer. I have been in a Starbucks in Prague in the Czech Republic 🇨🇿.
Yeah starbucks is in the UK just like there's a few Dunkin & Tim Hortons as well. Though Costa Coffee is #1 in terms of number of coffee shops(2,792), followed by Greggs (2176) then Starbucks (1,089).
Personally I have only gone to a Starbucks once and never again. I ordered an iced lattè and couldn't drink it because of how sweet it was. I usually go to Costa Coffee, or an Independent coffee shop. Generally I find American foods and drinks far too sweet, I couldn't get over how sweet bread is.
I've had 1 coffee in Starbucks and threw it away it was horrible. Costa and Caffè Nero are far better. Coffee is a hot drink not a cold drink, and certainly not with all those syrups they put in them. Cappuccino or Black for me. I make my own with Lavazza coffee ☕️
i have three Starbucks in UberEats range, and i live in the middle of nowhere in a town of 30k, so yeah - they're pretty common. Also you can buy Pike Place beans in the UK, but they don't make coffee with it, AFAIK. Also it is pronounced scone as in own, otherwise it would be spelled 'scon', not sure where people are learning English - and yep that definitely isn't one regardless.
I don't actually think I've ever been in a Starbucks, nor do I remember having a KFC Wimpy way back in the early 1980's and at least 25 years since I set foot in McDonald's, I'm of a certain generation, whereby we might have fish and chips once a week as a treat, and I've not had any of these since 1999. I just don't know why so many use fast-food places, I'd like too say I'm surprised by the States having loads of unnecessary ingredients but I'm not, I've worked in hospitality since 1978 and have been an Executive Chef for almost two decades, don't get me wrong if I fancy a small packet or normal size for the UK of crisps I'll have them, but just one bag, and likewise with biscuits etc, but only ever about 4 and that's once in a blue moon, again I think it's a generational thing
If I wanted a Starbucks Coffee where I live in Germany, I would have to travel to Augsburg, there is one at the train station. My favorite drink that I usually choose is a White Chocolate Mocca, usually Ventti. I rarely treat myself to it, almost as rare as "once in a blue moon" (funny google easter egg :))
Visited a Starbucks once and I'll never go back. Much prefer a small independent coffee shop. Iced tea is an abomination that only weird people would enjoy in the UK. Iced tea? What next? Garlic bread? 🤣
An iced English breakfast tea? What? It doesn't compute! I dont go often enough to have a favourite Starbucks product. Starbucks only came to my rown last year but there are now already 2 locations here.
Starbucks in the UK is vile muck, even with an extra shot of espresso it's thin and weak. The second time I had one I gave it back as I thought they had given me someones tea by mistake! German Starbucks aren't much better.
Never been to a Starbucks or Cafe Nero and the only Costa I have had has been in a hospital where some seem to have mini Costas. Yet they are around. Never tried an ice tea/coffee either so can't say if I would like it or not. I tend to go to and prefer more local run coffee shops, which have far more unique range of drinks and food on offer.
As others have mentioned, Starbucks are in most larger towns/shopping centres and some motorway service stations etc, but I personally think their coffee is awful and will only go there as a last resort. If I am going to visit a chain, I much prefer Caffè Nero. As for the popularity of tea and coffee, it should be noted that coffee shops (where coffee is the main draw) dominate our high streets rather than tea rooms (which you will find more frequently in quaint towns with an older target audience), and a large number of homes in the UK have coffee machines nowadays. I myself don't drink tea at all, apart from the odd cup of Earl Grey in a garden on a summer's day when the mood takes me; it might be an age/demographic thing?
