My friend and I realised the patriarchy in Rakhi few years ago. And we decided that we will both tie Rakhi to each other. I will protect him and he will protect me. It's a cute little gesture but it makes a whole lot of difference. 😊
The behavior of the chat really highlights how deeply problematic our current culture is as men. One may not actively be a rapist, but might still support such behavior (not referring to the people in chat, though I hate that I even have to clarify this). And if they aren't directly supporting it, they might be more focused on deflecting opinions, turning women into "Devis," or making the issue about themselves.

Here's the thing - nobody is saying "all men". We're saying that the issue is systemic in the socialisation of men in our country. The r@pists we catch are fathers, brothers, sons, uncles, friends, husbands, soldiers, policemen, doctors, engineers, civil servants, and strangers. The category of man one is does not matter. No one is above suspicion, because it's been proven that their category or relation does not matter. The argument is that systemic issues cause enough men to behave with impunity, because our society socialises men to view women as less than human. Bringing up "not all men" simply distances oneself from the argument, and prevents any societal action. 3:03:20 In Kerala we have volunteers for helping police ( Not in hospitals) they are trained for rescue operations after the 2018 Flood. You can see them in rescue and relief operations @ wayanad land slides. But most of these volunteers are affiliated to youth wing of political parties. At rescue and relief operations they will come out with uniforms (given by their organizations) and ID card. These volunteers are accountable because of their affiliations.

I teach in the UK and I can assure you that free thinking, democratic and critical thinking skills are honed in school. It is still very hard in an unjust capitalist world. But education is scientific here. All kids are encouraged to have their own opinions. Formal education is rote learning only makes us obedient in India. It doesn’t teach us how to think and actually solve problems. It doesn’t make us confident and feel equals.
Can I ask meghnerd or medusa( I will post it on her channel too), to have a live stream session, where gender sensitisation can be done? Men and women can talk about a topic and their emotions, examples, how they want to overcome those issue and solutions.

Something for the Rakhi guy. He could have argued that Meghnad tried to tell him that it does not matter what was the origin of Raksha Bandhan. What matters is what majority of people think about it today. It may have a beautiful origin story as explained by Salazar but majority of people think today that raksha bandhan means protecting women (mostly from other men). But the same argument is also valid when Meghnad tries to explain right wing and left wing. It may have a different origin story but today right wing = supporting particular religion, patriots etc, against other religions etc. Left wing = anti nationals, secular etc. And that's what majority of people believe. But if Salazar believes Raksha bandhan is not patriarchal even today then he should also believe Triple talaq is pro women. Because that's the origin story of triple talaq. Triple talaq was brought in because in olden times men married many women and because the women were still married, they could not remarry and had depend on thier husbands who may never ever see them again. So by triple talaq, they women could divorce thier husbands easily and get rid of them. Buts that's not what triple talaq means today.

There was a reporter in pauri district who was doing reporting in depth on this case, finding name of politicians involved in this, he was caught by pauri police and people protested, so he got bail. Now no news is coming from her case, atleast on main media, i am not seeing anything, finding some news only on google, or local media. To serve justice it has to happen quickly, otherwise it's of no use. In our country where rapist ram rahim is getting bail, every now and then, so think what type of justice are we giving.

Sir, I believe the only realization you've had now is that this isn't your echo chamber. Personally, I’m sure you have your points, but there are so many things wrong with that line of thought that it’s pointless and rather vain to explain them. Also the Mahabharata Period/Story itself is patriarchal in a sense. Most of the main characters are males. Yudhishthira betting Draupadi wouldn't make sense in an matriarchal or even in an egalitarian society.
Also the west coast of Maharashtra already has its own festival that day called as Narali Pornima where they offer Coconut, Rice and Flowers to the God of seas. Rakshabandhan became popularised way later. It has nothing to do with Maharashtra

I was pointing out the fact that since it has become popular way later in Maharashtra and its origins aren't rooted there, what they believe isn't a valid base for the actual origin story. Also as it was pointed out in the stream most folks while celebrating the festival consider that, sisters tie rakhi and in return, the brother protects the sister from harm which stems from a patriarchal belief system that while may not be true about its origin, is true about the current state of affairs which are generated from the patriarchal society over a long period.
