I remember one of my male friend and his group of friends from college boycotting Amir khan's movies because he said it out loud in the media about his wife being fearful of living in India because of the conditions there were for women. Another reason is that over the last decade or so we've started to confuse nationalism with patriotism as a society. While the former is majorly a political belief system, the latter treads a thin line between the love for a nation and blind faith. The former teaches one to see opposition - physical, ideological, social, political - as a threat. Whereas, the latter teaches one to love, respect, care, and empathise. It's not love if I'm not ready to accept flaws and problems and be willing to change. And there's no patriotism without love.

When I moved abroad, everyone pulled me down saying that the savings after tax will be less than India, considering the purchasing power of the rupee. Which is true. But now they understand that people don’t move abroad for money. Safety is priceless, and I’m glad I’m able to give it to my kids. PS - in the country I live now, girls as young as 10 cycle to their sports/ classes at any time of the day or night and no one cares. Even if I don’t earn as much as I was in India, this is more important than money for me as a parent.

I am not Indian but love the country and its culture but I have often seen it when anyone points out any shortcomings of India, Indians become very aggressive and offensive towards the people who point it out. I remember when Slumdog Millionaire movie came out and some Indians got very offended because the movie showed Slums and by that Hollywood was trying to say that all there is to India is slum. Her viewers r from almost every country, East Asia, Kenya, Australia, uk, France , America etc. A guy wrote a list of on what indians are best at n it was a sarcasm, to my surprise not only him but almost everybody in the comment section thinks " India is best in bad mouthing others n boasting". All the memes that you mentioned appeared on my twitter feed too. And they were generally on the accounts that wanted to attract a clout for the sake of going viral. You are right, they can scoff it off as a meme but cannot argue that its origination is dark. At the same time, a guy on my twitter account commented on Sobhita's character when she recently got engaged to Naga Chaitanya, equating her real character to Tara, that she played in Made in Heaven. Being curious I called him out as if he knows a lot about her personal life that he started drawing those parallels. He went quiet as I started asking him more questions since he seemed to know a lot. Truth is we appear to be all sanskari, caring and cultural but our humour in daily lives is crass, misogynistic and shallow.
You are right. 1. We need to be less serious in offence and more serious in action. 2. People need to understand that its everyone's duty, not just the state. Or the victim for that matter. 3. Calling out should be supported.

I think we are all living in a state of cognitive dissonance that has become completely divorced from reality. Any remainder of that cold and hard reality is so traumatic that it is met with vitriol from the general public. It is so unfortunate that a crime as horrendous as this is what has woken us up, even if it is only for a short time. I don't think people are sensitive, rather i would say they are insecure because of the influence which social media has made. Whenever you open Instagram or any other social platform you will find people who are just praising our nation for reasons which are not even reliable or just on some theories. As an Indian, i have seen that people are too proud of the history we have had, but they are not learning from it, people don't understand the value one simple thought can bring to the society.

What the English speaking urban elite fail to acknowledge is that most of India follows an ideology and culture that is at least 8 centuries behind what is considered acceptable in today’s modern age. The proliferation of cheap internet has only managed to accentuate the dissipation of this outdated and toxic ideology compounded by increasing unemployment and lack of positive outlets for entertainment. At the current rate, this is only going to result in dark times for India

But one thing I would like to say while some mother's don't have power in the family some of them don't feel the need to educate their children especially sons.some are ok with abuse going on with another woman going in same house.
