Black Ops 4 made me feel like I was back in 2010, and I love it. It's fun, fast, and satisfying. While your points good, and I agree with quite a few of them, but I think your biggest downfall is trying to find a seriousness in a game that doesn't market itself seriously. Granted I liked Ghosts and WWII, but I gotta disagree with you on this one, keep up the great videos!

As a casual player I really like this. I like how you can just run around and point and shoot. It's an adrenaline rush in some moments, and I'm really bad which makes killing somebody and getting killlstreaks a lot of fun.

I'm usually not one for the pissing match that is youtube comment debates but I'm not in agreement with you over quite a few points in this video and I'd like to voice my opinion on what I disagreed with and why. Obviously you can have your own opinion and I'm not going to try to "convert" you to a hardcore fan or anything like that but I'd just like to address just a few points that you made. Also, I'd like to mention that I'm not leaving this comment to criticize you in any harmful way, I thought the video was well made and I appreciate the effort that you put into it but I just think that many of the points you made don't make a whole lot of sense and I'd like to explain why. You make a lot of points in this video but I'm only going to respond to your criticisms of the core game modes since if I was to go over each point you made I'd find myself writing an entire essay worth. So the video title is obviously provocative and I get why you titled it that way, for sure it made me click on the video but claiming that a game isn't really a game if it heavily relies on one core mechanic really just doesn't make any sense. What about Forza, Super Mario, or the Tony Hawk games? Each of those games rely on one core mechanic yet nobody is debating the authenticity of those title's status as video games. You seem to be implying that games that rely on a single core mechanic aren't truly games but then what are they? There really isn't a lot of clarity here and I still don't understand completely what you mean. Again, I know that you probably gave it that title for the shock factor but I really don't think it applies or really makes any sense at all. Your criticisms of Blackout seem to be criticisms of the core Battle Royale genre itself. I'm not really a huge fan of Battle Royale but from what I can tell a lot of the appeal of blackout to the average battle royale fan is that it is a game that's similar to PUBG or Fortnite but made by a triple A developer. Blackout is for sure competing with PUBG and most people I know who've played both games say that Blackout is basically just a more polished version of the same thing. I'm not going to defend battle royale as a genre because I'm not that interested in it aside from the odd game here or there but your arguments seem to be that you dislike the genre and not the game. In regards to what you said about the multiplayer I would say that although there is the capacity for a casual player to just pick up the game and have fun there is actually quite a lot more detail to it when you look a little bit further into it. With a TTK so low call of duty is all about positioning. Once you learn to keep your eyes on the radar and keep track of your enemies the game becomes a lot deeper and more rewarding with various different strategies that you can play. The mind games aren't done during the gunplay, the are done before. It's all about getting the drop on your enemy and then having the skill and accuracy in the heat of the moment. The TTK also makes it extremely exhilarating when you manage to go on long killstreaks since you know that if you make a wrong move then you could die at a moment's notice. You said yourself that you haven't played that much call of duty multiplayer but if you were to sit down and play a game through to prestige I'm fairly certain you'd start noticing just how important all of this is and how the strategy that you use in the game is more implicit and less explicit. The three lane system is often harshly criticised for being too systematic or boring but honestly I couldn't disagree more, I love the way it all works. It plays almost like other games with three lane systems such as LoL or Dota except with an FPS format instead of MOBA and I seldom see people criticise those games for their map design. The lack of dynamics in the maps brings consistency to the battle and allows a good player to exercise greater map control rather than a map with ever changing design elements. CoD did actually try adding more dynamics into the game a few years ago with CoD Ghosts and it was pretty widely hated for being too confusing and arbitrary, there really isn't any need for it and it all just distracts from the game's strongest core mechanics. The core appeal of the zombies mode is for me at least the concept of improvement. Getting to a higher and higher round each time you play is incredibly satisfying and there's nothing better than sitting at your own personal best in a map. Learning a map takes a lot of time and practice, the setup for a high round run is pretty methodical and requires a lot of thought and optimisation. The closest thing I could compare it to is speedrunning, where each time you get a little better, a little faster, and to a slightly higher round. That's where the appeal lies in zombies for me and I would reckon lots of other people who like running high rounds, though you get other people who are more interested in the storyline and easter eggs which goes to show how versatile the mode is. It's a very arcadey experience and zombies mode plays of the same satisfaction you get for having your name at the top of the leaderboard for Pac Man except in a package more suited to 2018 as opposed to 1988. You largely criticise call of duty for lacking innovation but call of duty has tried several of the innovations you suggested in this video in the past and they are just not that well suited to the game. People hated the exo suits from Advanced Warfare through to Infinite Warfare and nobody liked the dynamic map changes in ghosts. The truth about call of duty is that what made it popular is what it is today, a straight-forwards no bullshit shooter which is fun to play and progress in. It's not a competitive shooter like Overwatch or CS:GO and nor should it really try to be. The games mechanics work well enough as they are and I think that this is what the developers really took into account with black ops 4. They gave the community a lot of what they wanted in the multiplayer while adding a few interesting innovations which aren't too intrusive on the overall gameplay. It's still call of duty doing what call of duty does best, which for the past few years hasn't been what call of duty has done and that's why I'm enjoying black ops 4 so much as a fan of the series. I don't understand why you seem to think that the series should be so different today than it was 10 years ago. Mario is still about running and jumping, Pokemon is still about catching monsters and battling them and call of duty is still about low TTK fast paced action and that's the way it should remain and that's the way the fans want it to be. Also, I would like to state that I don't think the game is flawless. There have been a plethora of performance issues and crashes particularly in the zombies mode and the multiplayer balance is a bit all over the place. Regardless of these issues however I've still had a lot of fun with the game and honestly I think that it's the best game in the series since Black Ops 2. Wew, that took a while to write. I hope that reading this helps you understand why I and so many others are enjoying this game so much right now. As I said before this isn't any sort of attack on you in any way and I'm not trying to convince you to somehow magically enjoy a game that you just don't like playing. Either way I appreciate the effort and time you put into making the video and I left a like on it regardless of my personal disagreements. Cheers

Personally I think that the depth comes from the understanding of the guns, maps and loadouts. It’s like a MOBA in that you do the same thing each time, but you improve a little each and every time, which can feel rewarding. You make a lot of good points though.

You have your points on disliking the game. But this video seems like more of a "I wish this game was a different game" type of video. It's a call of duty game and that's that. Most of what you said is something that cod has not ever done yet. It's pretty much always been three-lane maps, it's always just been shooting and it's always barely had any outplay mechanics. It's a dumb fun game, it's supposed to be very simple. And even then, it still has ways that players can dominate others like knowing spawn, positioning utilizing your streaks properly etc. It really seems like you were just trying to tell us that Cod should be more like Halo, but it's not supposed to be that (btw halo is like my favorite game ever so I get ur point).

In zombies: The brain dead repetitiveness is why it’s awesome. Put some headphones on, listen to music, and go for high rounds. That’s EXACTLY why it’s fun. Because it’s CHILL not because of how in depth it or crazy it is. Climbing leaderboards, leveling up , and trying to go for the highest round possible brings so much satisfaction to me. That’s where all the replayability comes from. Nice video tho

I hate to say this, but it was so pain-stakingly obvious you're not a Call of Duty player - all your criticisms (mainly about zombies and about killstreaks) are criticisms of core CoD gameplay. So all in all, the people who would like this game are casual shooter fans. It's not your cup of tea, and that's fine!

There are inter activities outide of the maps. On IX, you throw grenades at the crowd, they mark you down for it. On Voyage of Despair, there are multiple ways to upgrade things, Easter eggs and free wonder weapon quests (that take plays outside of the map). On Blood of the Dead, there’s a free Blundergat Easter egg for collecting skulls with the Hell’s Retriever, you can get a spoon melee weapon for free, upgrade that spoon to the golden spork (for free), upgrade the Hell’s Retriver by hitting a wolf head and getting kills with the original Retriever. It’s very obvious you don’t play zombies at all. Also, need I mention the music Easter eggs?

Personally like hunting for and doing the Easter eggs in zombies with friends. There is more to it than just kiting and I think my favorite aspect is you have a lot of different strategies you can use.

BO4 counts assists as kills for K/D, which is why it says EKIA/Death ratio instead of K/D. Your stat page shows how many direct action kills you have. Your K/D was actually 0.95, not 1.72. So I wouldn't use your high K/D as a way to validate your points. I wasn't a huge fan of BO4 myself as a whole, but a lot of the criticisms made just seemed like you were knocking it cause it wasn't like a Bungie game. I enjoy both CoD and Halo, so I get what you mean, but CoD just isn't your thing. A lot of your complaints were not specific to BO4, and are present in pretty much every CoD game. BO4 definitely wasn't great, but in my opinion, for completely different reasons than you say. Specialist abilities made the game way more hectic, giving undeserved deaths, similarly to what you said about killstreaks, but wayyy more often. Zombies I felt made a lot of changes that were good in theory, but not executed well. The new perk system, elixirs, and specialist weapons I felt didn't give the variety the devs hoped, and could make the game mode way too easy. The maps weren't nearly as memorable or fun as previous entries either. Blackout however, I almost completely agree with you on. Console looting was horrible, and it could have been better optimized, especially on console.

And another thing, why are there so many damn reused maps? Usually when a new cod comes out all the maps are the original, with the exception of one or two. Slums, firing range, decent maps in their own right, but how the hell can they get away with effortlessly reusing the same damn maps I already own? Not to mention that some of these were already resold once or twice before.

This is barely a video. Nothing mentioned in the video is something we haven't heard for years, and "it's boring because you point and shoot?" Really? That's what it says on the tin, and you bought it. I didn't buy it because yeah, it's boring, but that's exactly what's advertised. Twenty four minutes of vapid nothing.

I think the argument for calling Black Ops 4 "barely a video game" for focusing on gun-play is weak. The same thing could be said about many, many games, really. "Pac-Man is barely a video game because all you do is move the character", "Gran Turismo is barely a video game because it's really only about moving your car". It's a clickbait title that is backed up by a weak argument.

As someone who's not played Zombies or hardly touched Multiplayer in the past, you weren't the best person to have review this game. However, that also gives you a fresh look on the game as a whole and although I don't agree with all of your points, this video was great! I've seen too many criticisms on this game where people have a few different clips of each mode and just ramble on. You actually had stacks of gameplay used to showcase your points and I appreciate that a lot. Also, I didn't realise how unsatisfying Blackout is until you mentioned it. I've barely touched it since the beta - huge let down. Hate to be that person that goes 'you gained a sub!' but I'm definitely subscribing to see more like this. Fun video!

this is one of the MOST casual friendly fps out there, the "feel good even though youve done close to nothing" shooter when assists are counted as kills...so positive K/D on everyone is common

For Black Out, looting wise, they should do a full list (vertical).

I agree mostly with your opinion on blackout and multiplayer. But with zombies I'm gonna have to disagree. Ever since mid blops 2, zombies has been heavily reliant on the story. If you're not doing the easter eggs and following the story, you're not really getting the zombies experience. Which sucks for people just getting into zombies since the story is a convoluted mess of dimensions and timelines that's been going on since late black ops 1 and even a bit in WaW. But I personally really enjoy that since I've been keeping up with it since WaW. Edit: + your framerate issue on squads in blackout is purely an xbox thing. No idea why and it sucks but no other platform has that. Hopefully that gets fixed quick though.

Zombies is so much more than what you described, each map has its own unique things to do. Like quests to do ( not referring to the main quest but quests to get special weapons) To casuals it may just be shoot zombies over rounds but for anyone who digs deeper it really is much more.

First of all I understand the criticisms you made here. Completely agree that battle royale has been overdone, and that multiplayer can get a bit repetitive and shouldn’t have had so many remade maps. However several things about the video really just seemed unfair on the game. 1. Blackout it really not that dependant on luck. Any gun can be used in the right situation by a good player, and after having played enough of the mode to be level 15, I’ve only experienced that no gun nightmare start a few times. 2. You compared this game way to much to destiny. I have played over 1000 hours of both destiny and COD respectively and can say from the bottom of my heart that I am a huge fan of both franchises, but they bare very little similarities, and destiny is only enjoyable for a very dedicated player (even in PvP, as players must have a good idea of the meta and be able to use much better game sense of that required in multiplayer.) COD on the other hand is easy to play and fun for everyone, which is why it bugged me that you compared the two games. 3. I would say that a 1.7 kd is average, and considering all you played seemed to be tdm, by far the easiest mode, its not that impressive and would by no means take a lot of practice as you said. 4. The zombies section of the video was very unjust. You took no time to explain or pay attention to details such as the vast selection of perks, equipment, elixirs and so on, the very detailed and well designed secrets and easter eggs that the game has to offer, or the several buildable items on the maps such as the shields, wonder weapons and traps. Just some things to consider, haven’t left a dislike as the video seemed fairly well constructed, but just wanted to express my thoughts as a viewer

I can relate to everythign in this video.. I played alot of CoD and Zombies when I was younger (aka a kid), but as I grew older i caught myself shifting more and more towards strategy, logistics & building games. I then tried to go back to CoD, but it felt so fake and awkward. I didn't need to think or plan, I just ran around and shot people. It was stupid and got extremely boring fast. Haven't ever returned to any CoD game.

The biggest problem with this game, is that it's simply didn't need to exist. The game was simply made to cash in on the popularity of the BR genre (which is a genre I'm getting tired of).

I like the game, but no ones talking about the excessive amount of bugs it shipped with. The most prominent being that the game crashes across all modes, particularly during high zombie rounds and Easter eggs. There was also a memory leak issue on the pc version that would corrupt your hard drive if you played too long.

Absolutely loved the video. You are my favourite RU-vidr for a reason. You were absolutely spot on about the issues plaguing Battle Royale Genre. I am not much of a multiplayer guy, but given the choice, I would play Team Deathmatch anyday over Battle Royale. And I love how you analyse these small things(which are actually pretty huge deals) that no one else does. I wish that more reviewers were like you. Then this industry wouldn't have been stuck in mediocrity.
