@@oboeshoesgames real life version of no russian is orlando shooter against gay club with fbi be Shepard knew about it connection to culprit but allow it
Ah, back when POV cutscenes were a new "feature" and everyone put a gun to your head or their face extremely close to the camera, so you could absorb all these next-gen facial textures.
The only thing I enjoy more than playing Cliffhanger from MW2 is picking Cyber Quincy as my hero in blooms tower defense 6 because nothing gets past his bow.
I actually really, really loved the AC130 mission in MW3, with all the mass destruction and switching between air support and the ground troops, really seeing what the AC130 looks and feelsnlike from both perspectives
Ok but like, they literally were all over the country and not a single person noticed them until they started shooting. Neither did the rest of the world, who undoubtedly would’ve seen a ludicrous amount of planes and ships go over to the US. Thinking logically just breaks the story, which makes it a good thing that they weren’t being serious
@@evang.4523 yeah but it loses the fun if you get too realistic. I mean in actuality the Russian airforce would be confetti in weeks and their navy blockaded by US forces from around the war. Cut off from supplies, facing a larger force with more modern weapons, and a hostile populace would spell absolute disaster for Russian forces. That's not near as much fun though so we just look past it lol.
@@joaquizzletwizzle its a reference to the highway of death where American forces bombed retreating Iraqi forces in real life. In MW's story they have it so that Russians bomb the in game fictional country's forces
@@joaquizzletwizzle the highway of death ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highway_of_Death ), a pretty fucking nasty US war crime where the US bombed the hell out of an entire highway, was falsely attributed to the russians in the new modern warfare. the cutscene where it happens is shown in the video.
JoaquizzleTwizzle They mention the Highway of Death in the game, the thing is that they say it was the Russians who did it, instead of te Americans. In real life during the Gulf War several Iraqi military deserting alongside civilians were all bombed to oblivion on a highway.
In Cliffhanger they raid this Russian airbase, because of American satellite that has fallen from the skies was stored there. Thanks to the information Russians gathered from studying that satellite, they were able to bypass US early warning system, which gave their military the possibility of invading US mainland. Plot in MW2 is kinda weird, this seems like a major detail, that explains how US got invaded, and is motivation for an entire level, yet is barely mentioned.
Fun Fact we can tell they cobbled it together at the last minute. In the MW2 E3 demo, Soap and Roach are in fact looking for a "DSM", the McGuffin we get from Makarov's safehouse in the main game. So it looks like they designed whole levels based entirely on fun, and created loose connections for the campaign at the last minute.
@@Freshie207 Yeah, it feels like it was rewritten at the last minute to make Makarov the big bad for 3, there's some really weird stuff like seemingly swapping Kamarov for a resurrected Price. I mean, I can _kind of_ accept Kamarov would be locked up in Russia and would know stuff about Russian nuclear subs, how the hell does Price?
So, fun fact, blowing up a nuke in the high atmosphere _does_ cause an EMP. It's called a High-Altitude Nuclear Explosion, and it has actual military implications.
I love how ridiculous an east coast invasion by russians is in MW2, but I'm in hysterics by the fact that in MW3, that when the russian president goes missing, Russia's first response to find him is just to invade all of Europe.
I love the idea that the Russian President commits all the nuclear codes to memory and they wouldn't be changed if he was captured. That's, ah, not even slightly how that works.
As ridiculous as the MW trilogy is it's probably my favourite CoD story and campaigns. Because they do something that we can't have any more and that's focus on fun first. The CoD campaigns since Ghost have been so convoluted and full of random mechanics or over the top drama that they forgot that games are supposed to be fun
I recently played the MW2 campaign remaster. Loved it back then, still do now. It has all the great parts of the COD4 campaign, but turned up eleven. Especially the second half is CoD at its absolute best. Nothing but fast-paced fun, epic storytelling and beautiful set pieces👌
6:43 just like to say the only way of actually deploying an EMP is through a nuclear detonation. The Air force’s Nightwatch is shielded against that pulse
I honestly like MW3 the most aesthetically I think it’s one of the coolest looking and the vibe of it mw2 is some of the most fun to play and mw1 is the best story
6:14 The suburb levels hit home for you, I'm sure. Imagine living in the DC suburbs, where that winter it came out we got a pretty decent amount of snow, and suddenly *the game* breaks in to a color pattern with the scroll talking about emergency in Prince George's County. For anyone who grew up around here, there had to be a moment of wondering what's going on, and then the game goes on to fight on the Mall in DC and into the White House. It was part field trip, part.. trippy, but without any drugs. At times I wasn't entirely sure I dreamed that.
Thanks for the review..!!! Love the existence of this trilogy. I'm ordering a 360 and this trilogy. The new shhh today has to much downloading involved. Monopolized to sale more internet.
It only now occurs to me, as a non-COD player, that "Soap McTavish" sounds like he should be Guybrush Threepwood's first mate or something. And now I can't help wondering if I'm just subconsciously pulling that from an old Zero Punctuation video and Yahtzee thought of it first...
I've watched your videos for the 1st time recently and you mention Cliffhanger in a bunch of them. This video made me realise you're not talking about the 1993 Sylvester Stallone movie. :'(
Is it weird that I remember almost none of the big budget set pieces from these games. But I can pretty much remember the sequence of events in Killzone for the PS2 almost a decade and a half later? And that game was like, prematurely grayish brown a generation before it became popular.
My buddy let me play the ac130 mission and I was like "hmm, that's a cool game, I'll buy the 2nd one." And I thought all the missions would be like cliffhanger...
