I like a fact that unlike any other battles, the more the Russian army march deeper and deeper into the heart of German (Berlin), the more inhumane and insane the battle become. It perfectly convey all the angers and vengeances the Russian army was having deep inside its heart and soul.
YES! If studying history doesn't upset you sometimes, then you're not really studying history. I love this game for a lot of reasons as a history nerd and gamer, but mainly for the way it takes the whole "Feel Good War", turns it upside down, and ruthlessly tears it apart, whether in the form of being forced to make an unethical choice or "We won, but NO ONE is happy". "Feel Good War" MY ASS. Also, it's spoken highly of by Extra Credits.
Shows how anyone would act toward the ppl who not only killed your entire family, but family friends and ppl you cared about, the raping they did will nvr be okay to me, killing German soldiers however is completely understandable. We in the US would do the same if an invading army had devastated our homeland the way the nazis did Russia and we had reversed the war and were now in their homeland like the Russians were when they took Berlin.
Well, this is for some political correctness issue in the Unites States: you cannot portray USSR in an over-positive way. In real life the flag bearer lived well into 21st century and died in 2010.
What I love about this game (and the earlier WW2 COD games as well) is that there is no main villain. They’re not chasing or hunting down a secret mastermind, it’s just all out, brutal war where both sides were embroiled in atrocities while fighting for revenge and survival. The brutality shown towards the Germans in this game kind of makes you sympathise for them despite knowing the atrocities the German army committed, especially towards the Russians. This game doesn’t glamorise the Second World War or paint it in a black and white depiction. It shows the ultimate horror and the needless suffering of so many people just to fight to stay alive.
It’s triumphant in the moment. But knowing what comes next for Dimitri and Viktor makes this bittersweet. Men who should have been welcomed back as heroes, we’re instead chewed up and spat out by a regime just as bad as they one they fought so hard to destroy.
"April 30 1945, when we first heard of Dimitri reznov told tales of a hero someone we should all aspire be like. At times i have seen him show mercy and at other times complete brutality I dont understand this man but perhaps heros need not to question their actions" -chernov
Can also be: "--his bravery on the battlefield is beyond question, but at some times he has shown mercy amidst the brutality of the red army, he is indeed a hero." Or "--his merciless brutality defines him only as a savage, just like the rest of the red army, he is no hero..."
@@bulletcat575 depends on your action in previous missions; for example: if you choose to spare or kill the wounded German soldiers in the beginning of "Their land, their blood" mission.
@@therockbat also the surrendering soldiers at Evicted you either shoot them or burn them If you burn them Reznov will tell Chernov he should of shoot them it's only cruel to prolong an animal's suffering If you shoot them Reznov tells him he should take note from you as you understand mercy killing
Theres just something haunting about the section of the level where you have to clear the parliament beginning at 4:05, to a point where it's almost as though you're in hell, with the fire and blood splattered all over the walls, with the unnerving soundtrack and whirring playing in the background. You can almost feel the desperation and hopelessness the Nazis are going through, knowing that at this point they're not fighting for their Führer, their nation or their pride, but to stay alive for a mere moments longer, even if the life they have left is to wait for a vengeful-ridden death from the Red army.
Somehow German soldiers in Berlin were only issued 5 rounds of rifle ammo per soldier at times but were strangely issued 100 grenades and 50 rockets for the Panzerschreck per soldier according to the game. Also they seemingly have aimbot even though many were conscripts with little to no formal training. (This whole comment is a joke don’t crucify me pls🙃)
ngl as a child this game gave me nightmares and ultimately taught me to never glorify war in any way. i'm glad Treyarch taught me to respect history and so forth lol
Lol granted this is old but besides starting the greatest human bloodbath in history Germany killed tens of millions of ppl outside of combat situations aka war crimes lol
"As heroes we will return to Russia's embrace..." Sad knowing the fact they got betrayed by their comrades and killed in the end. They are indeed heroes of Russia, and they have fought, bled and sacrificed for Mother Russia. ;-;
You guys wanna know something funny? My son thinks Call of Duty WWII (2017) was a great video game with an amazing story. Even with me telling him about this game he has no idea what a truly great game this was that perfectly depicts the horror and brutality of war. A story of what men can do to other men, when led astray by the charisma of a mad man.
One time, one of my older relatives and I were playing this level and we also had a bunch of random RU-vid videos auto-playing in the background. So, *THIS* ended up happening at the end. Viktor Reznov: "Dimitri!" RU-vid Video: "🎵🎵It's time to brush your teeth!🎵🎵"

@@mrhatman675 okay... I'm gonna tell what happened next, next six months later Dimitri was healed from his wound after he got shot by a German SS Soldier, Dimitri became sergeant & Viktor Reznov became Captain, they were both sent to the Arctic circle to find Steiner & Nova 6, Orders from Dragovich & Kravchenko, that's gonna happened in the next game, Black ops.

Activision is pro American, the sequel to this black ops, potrays USSR has super evil that even killed Dimitri and other veterans while it justifies and pictures the Americans and CIA has saints in the Vietnam war
The way they actually made you feel like a Russian soldier who survived Stalingrad and made it all the way to Berlin fighting and watching your friends and comrades die one by one thru each battle, but you survived, anyone would want revenge especially against the die hard nazis who were defending Berlin, young boys and girls aside unless they gave you no choice, otherwise the SS defending the final symbol of the nazi regime. I know if I was a Russian soldier like that I'd want to kill any SS I found bc they were the true evil of the nazis. A lot of the German army were just soldiers some even from before Hitler came to power who just wanted to serve their country. The SS however deserved everything that they got from the Russian army, I'm just upset as an American that our boys did a lot of fighting and dying too, granted not as much as the Russians did, and we didn't get to fight in Berlin when I wish we had been bc our troops after all the blood and sacrifices wanted just a chance to take Berlin after all they had done but we just stopped and gave it to the Russians. I can't imagine a soldier who had landed on the beaches and marched his way all the way into Germany itself, losing friends and loved ones the whole way and having to do things no human should just to survive. Then the top brass says just hold your positions were not going to Berlin, sum would be happy to not fight, others would be so disappointed bc all they gave and sacrificed going to Berlin and hav to stop bc of orders.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Berlin Berlin was a fortress. And it was within the Soviet zone of post-war Germany. And taking that fortified city was going to be costly- the Soviets lost 80,000 men in two weeks taking that city. Stalin was happy to feed as many men as it took into the grinder. US and Britain weren't so keen to do the same to their own young men.
There's already alot of gore and Nazi banners and flags all around the place so I don't think a small flag would single handedly cause political drama, Activision and Treyarch had the biggest balls the gaming industry has ever seen back then
