Call of Duty: WWII PC Game Review 

The only issue I have with this game being historically inaccurate is the fact that they marketed this game so heavily saying "this is the most realistic cod game to date" and pretty much bragging about how they had historians fact checking the game. If it weren't for this I wouldn't care about the simple stuff wrong with it.

I don't like how they censored the swastikas in the multiplayer and zombies modes, if you're gonna get triggered by that why are you playing a WW2 game in the first place? It should be an option in the menu to censor it if everyone gets that pissy over it.

The reflex sights and stuff on the guns bothers me more than anything. The devs/pubs are just so scared of the modern warfare crowd that we can't have a WWI/WW2 game without lots of bullshit weapons and optics. It's amazing just how hard CoD4 influenced and keeps influencing games these days (for better or worse).

I'm probably alone here but I'm tired of seeing real people/actors in games. Not to mention games would be a little a cheaper to make if we didn't have to provide so much cash to pay known actors and all the facial likeness shit and so on.

I'm still absolutely amazed that they actually went out of their way to have a fixed health bar with medikits for the campaign. I mean for a modern CoD game, that's almost surreal but still praise worthy as someone who utterly despises regenerating health.

CoD: World at War was really one of my favorite campaign to play for ww2

What annoys me is that they don't even care about being accurate anymore, even in the days of COD 1 and 2 where you could magically heal yourself with health packs or sitting in a corner, they still tried to keep it accurate to WW2 and carefully considered what weapons to use. (COD1 had some issues but they were fixed in COD2) But here they just don't care. Why are Germans using Russian weapons on D-Day and throughout the Western front (inb4 "but they used russian weapons!", yeah, on the eastern front where they could get parts quickly and ammunition for said firearms)? Why does the PPSH41 use parts from a another gun? How the fuck do you reload a Lee Enfield, with a 10 round magazine, in one charger? They just don't give a shit about the little details anymore.

The most unrealistic part is French Resistance doing anything meaningful. Call me jaded Pollack, but it really hurts me that French are symbol of Resistance against Third Reich while historically they were on pretty good terms with their German occupant. Victors write history I guess.

Auto liked at that dig against Zombies mode. It went from being a nice and simple endurance mode, to this complicated mess of a mode so far up its own ass with the Easter eggs that it's become the main focus instead of a small thing to do. BO1 is when they started to jump the shark.

Love it how a 2017 game with massive budget has less weapons than Call of duty United Offensive, a game launched more than 10 years ago.

Actually the Germans did use Russian guns, they converted them. Even gave out manuals on how to use them. They enjoyed the PPSH so much, that it wasn't uncommon for allied troops to find Germans using soviet weapons. So call of duty actually went outta their way to be more accurate

I was very happy with your review and honest opinion, but in the end I am extremely disappointed. Why did you not mention loot boxes? Not a single peep about them, even though they're also a big source for criticism. The whole Normandy beach and opening boxes in front of other players is as predatory as it gets.

I just wanna say out of all the reviewers on youtube your reviews feel the most genuine and in depth, Ive seen 3 other reviews for this game and this was the best.

I had very low expectations for this game but after playing through the story, I found that it was honestly one of the most immersive story in cod history. I can understand getting angry at historical inaccuracies in multiplayer but the single player still holds up well imo despite some inaccuracies. I mean it’s a game, it’s not real life

It makes sense it's not shocking like wolfenstein, Wolfenstein was always intended from minute 1 to be campy to a certain degree. And both New Order and New Collossus are supposed to follow that style. You can't just compare Wolfenstein to COD, COD was always intended to be as close as possible to reality (except that one in the future). Wolfenstein has demons, mad scientists and ghosts from the get go.

CoD 2 is my favorite too! I truely felt like I was just "one of the guys" in that campaign and no other CoD after that replicated that feeling for me.

I never cared much for the multiplayer part, but I just finished the first mission and the single player campaign looks promising. The return of the fixed health bar is definitely a step in the right direction.

So I actually disagree with the campaign. It is better than most COD campaigns (though thats not saying much). However, the story itseld is very banal. Yes, the french resistance mission was great, but how many WWII games have had that? Off the top of my head I know Medal of Honor (original), MOH Allied Assault, MOH Frontline, and more Im sure. Then theres the "saving my men vs following orders" trope that just about every military story has ever used and magically goes away after one scene of bonding. Even the last scene could have been done much better by NOT being a cinematic and flashing between the past and current situation for the player (it also hurts that the narrator explains it, let the people figure it out for themselves, players are smart). In terms of gameplay, there are a few memorable moments, but the vehicle sections are just awful and feel like they were thrown in there to say "look, youre doing something different now!" The fighting sections are all pretty much. Fight to an area, now defend that area for this amount of time, watch out towards the end as enemy armor is coming. Also, just a nitpicky thing but when you say you want to "educate" new generations on WWII, you could at least get the fact that a captain in the army wears two silver bars not a colonels bird insignia. A google search shows thats wrong, clearly they didnt do that much research into the "boots on the ground" story they wanted to tell.

I have to disagree about fan favorites being CoD 1 or2. Ask anyone about their favorite CoD and the majority will either say Cod 4 or MW 2.

Actually, German troops did use Russian weaponary in Normandy. Namely, the osttruppen. So it's historically accurate.

The problem is not that its not realistic, it's that they claim they did 2 and a half years of researches in order to get the most "accurate" experience. If COD wants to be goofy fine, but then don't try to be really serious too, both worlds are really hard to match (the only one that manages that is MGS and even this franchise struggles with it sometimes).

Couldn't get through the first mission of campaign. So many cutscenes and QTEs. If I wanted to watch a WW2 movie I would have done that, ya know

The reason female soldiers are in the mix here is for the same reason that Assassins Creed Syndicate had a female playable character, to prevent labels about woman hating and lack of gender diversity being thrown at the games industry.

Alright sonny Jim's lets just take a look shall we? This game can be annoying as all SHIIEEET, but the gun models are recreated with startling authenticity. The game can look downright photorealistic at times. All the enemies are hit scanning and annoying as all fuck! All in all it's a return to form for the series

Actually, Russian sub machine guns being used by Germans on the Western Front is not a historically inaccurate detail. Germany's industry was hurting and they were using any weapons they could get there hands on.

No mention of the loot boxes ? And no mention about loot boxes in your previous reviews, you must be under 20 years old ? There used to be a time when games released with complete without any loot boxes, all content available at launch.

Got the game yesterday, having loads of fun, the Singleplayer is cool and the Multiplayer is quite alive i find full TDM lobbies in seconds!

Well, a Russian submachine gun wouldn't be THAT unusual, considering some of the static divisions during the normandy campaign were circled in from the eastern front, and took all their captured equipment from them. There were PPShs and ZiS 5 divisional field guns found in normandy.

Cod was never designed to have a realistic multiplayer game. All it is just a paintball arena with ww2 setting because the devs wants you to play the game the way you like it and play it so that you can feel like home in there. Also the campaign is amazing!

But why do we need to fully download the 50 gb multiplayer on top of the 15 gb single player to just play the 2 hour compain?????

I'm running this game at 1080p with a Q9650 and a 1050 ti, and STOCK speeds! Everything is on normal, and some stuff is on low, not for frame rates, but for personal preferences. Some options on low look better to me, than on normal or high. I get a solid 60fps.

Glad to see that the campaign is at least half-decent this time around. I have been bored to tears with every CoD campaign from Black Ops 1 and onwards. I might pick this up if I can find it for a reasonable price

Fixed health bar in campaign? Holy shit, you have my attention. I mean, not enough of my attention for me to buy a CoD game but my attention nonetheless.

I only purchase cod games to play by myself offline with bots and I really enjoy the direction COD WW2 is going with the war game mode. Cod MP needs to focus on more narrative based, larger and dynamic game modes with the edition of NPC's (like the d-day landing mission).

The german wermacht made extensive use of captured soviet weapons on both fronts. A russian sub gun or rifle at Normandy wouldn't have been impossible and they were absolutely used later in the campaign in France(reference "If You Survive" by Lt George Wilson)

With regards to the PPSH-41, the Germans were well known for capturing and converting enemy equipment, including that gun. When it came to using captured equipment, they even went as far as using captured Renault FT-17s from World War I during the battle for Paris in 1944.

Im starting to think people are just lacking knowledge in history as there was some Soviet equipment which ended up on the Western Front and there was a lot of USA equipment which ended up on the Eastern Front

I am surprised... the story was trash and game took away control way to often. I think cod1,2, MW are miles better. Even infinite Warfare was much better. IN this one, it's cinematic after cinematic and then they take control away from You. I think it was ok but not too much. And why the heck would germans use russian pps guns ?

In the end, I am never gonna agree when a reviewer talks about the graphics of a game, because fundamentally, I always look at the presentation. Color palettes, design choices, and how the graphics are used will to me always be the more important in how the game looks, than just its graphics.

You mention about unrealism in cod multiplayer by radar and moving accuracy but fail to mention my biggest issue with games based on realistic setting which is magical health regeneration.

I have to say, GGG, your "Don't see how loot boxes matter" comment is half disturbing, half astonishingly naive. Yeah sure, let's just ignore publishers ruining games completely now and putting a big fat candy stand/casino for minors into the middle of it, "who cares", right?

Totally agree here, even if i don't own the game! This is not a game for realism or historical accuracy, it's the kind of shooter you just play for fun, jumping into a match and running into a small map! This isn't Battlefield or something, that's what people need to understand! My only complain is that the engine might use some optimization, i tried playing Advanced Warfare on my R7 370 i5 and 8GB Ram and on high runs like garbage, and the performances show it should run decent!

That's what so great about the originals though, they were somewhere inbetween realism and arcady. It was the novelty of it that made it so good. They just couldn't redo that they had to add their bullshit. Detachable mags for the mauser and springfield, reflex sites, radars, etc. CoD will never be what it once was. Just like BF wont either. It's popularity killed it.

I’m playing this game currently for the first time, and man is the campaign fun. I’m playing on hardened with aim assist off on PS4, so this game makes me really feel like Batman.

It's absolute shit. The campaign is a joke. The multiplayer maps are tiny and a zergfest. Nothing has changed, buildings are still are indestructible in 2017. It's utter wank. Let's just all be honest.

I've been on the call of duty hate train for a good 7 or 8 years now and I can honestly say that this wasn't half bad. There's no way in hell I'm going to buy it right now but I did pick it up from redbox for a night that I was off of work, had no college assignments due, and didn't have plans with friends and i just stayed up a little late and ran through the campaign and it was easily with the $3 rent and night to myself. If you own a console, try and rent it from a redbox or gamefly or something I guess. I'm not even a shooter fan but the quick little campaign was a cinematic gem for what it is. If you can magically find it cheap or something I say go for it.

they say they got rid of regenerate health. but it's a just a gimmick. when your health gets low you'll magically have a health pack added from nowhere. what a joke but I agree with the best mission of infiltrating nazi base. should be something from Wolfenstein. but somehow cod did Qolfenstein better than the new Wolfenstein

My problem with the campaigns in these triple A shooter games is that it's not like going to war it's more like going to Disneyland and going on all the rides. No matter how hard they try to tie the missions together I'm always thinking "Okay so now I'm in on the tank ride. How much longer until I get to go on the ride that has me flying a fighter jet? And then when will I get back to the main ride which is shooting or is the stealth ride first?" It ruins my rp and bores me. The fact that historical accuracy often seems to be at best an after thought does not help. But then that's me. Your experience may differ

Only after waching this video that I actually got interested in the game, I was once interested in multiplayer back in 2007 but now I only care about the singleplayer and it does looks like they did a damn good job at that... Definitely will get it when the price is right.

Never liked how games like COD think unskippable cutscenes are ok if they force you to slowly walk through the level while plot happens.
