I think his argument was to the verse of "If you want to be depressed, then using anti-depressants is bad!" So yes, I think he is saying "If you want to make children, then you can't do the non-reproductive sex" to which I say "Well duh!" The study doesn't have anything to do with homosexuality to begin with. The herbicide changes the sex of the frogs. They aren't turning gay, they're turning female which is only possible because their sexual organs aren't that differentiated to begin with.

science is restricted to matters of fact, not matters of value. there is no science that can prove homosexuality right or wrong. best it can do is show the extent and describe how different culltures have accepted or condemned it. Accepting people's sexuality means affirming their humanity and right to the pursuit of happiness, as opposed to condemnation based on some dictator in the sky.

Edit: I should probably clarify - I do care in the sense that if my child were homosexual, I would know that they are in store for a great deal of prejudice in their lives, largely (I'm guessing) from people like you. He was blatantly hypocritical nonsense 1) Having sex without the possibility of procreation is wrong. 2) Though people who want to just have sex without the possibility for procreation is totally fine. Condoms, oral, anal, nothing wrong with having sex without the possibility of procreation. 3) Except gay sex. That's wrong because you are having sex without the possibility of procreation. That isn't a difference of opinion. It's a an obvious and ridiculous position that needs to be spelled out for the audience and for the caller to see how dumb they are for having said it.

Actually, I liked her style. She allowed him to dig himself in deeper and she kept her answers simple (for him to understand). I like these shows... But often, the hosts are so fast to spot a logical fallacy and interrupt that the caller doesn't have enough time to get out their full argument. And the hosts' explanations are often too complex for the callers to understand. These guys allowed him to talk and explained things slowly and clearly... So hopefully he understood his mistakes.

I think it’s more the case that he’s very, very confused and just doesn’t understand much about homosexuality. It is stupid reasoning. I mean, my wife & I have had two kids. I got a vasectomy, she had a hysterectomy. There's no way we'll ever have any more kids, but according to this dumbass caller it's wrong for us to have sex even though we're married and still have sexual urges. As someone who grew up Christian and was heavily involved in the Church, etc, Christians love to take studies like these and present them as evidence for their beliefs. A great example of this is a book my conservative Christian sister referred to me that said rock music is bad, evidenced by a study where they played different types of music at potted plants and the one that was exposed to rock music died (or something like that). I didn't have the words at the time to tell her that was bs.

You are only susceptible to change if your personality is a by-product of indoctrination. It is as simply as that. Most people are susceptible to peer pressure as a result of that. I’m not sure if anyone else has heard about this, but in college I once took a class about research & writing. For one assignment, we were given this scientific article claiming that chemicals in consumer products (soap, shampoo) were causing certain children to go into early-onset puberty. It was pretty disturbing, but our assignment was to go home and write a paper on it. At the next class, after we turned in the papers, the professor revealed that the article was totally bogus - it wasn’t peer-reviewed, and was actually just made on behalf of an “organic” shampoo company, on a sketchy website. It was like “whoa, we were totally fooled! This teaches us an important lesson about verifying sources! Cool, got it.” But thinking about it later, this started to bother me: What if someone never came back for that second class, though? Like, they dropped out or blew it off or something... they might go through life never knowing the denouement to this anecdote. What if somebody went around the rest of their life, telling people about this bullshit “research” they learned in college? Anyway, this call reminded me of that haha

He says he's an atheist but his homophobia and 'sex is only for pro-creation' is straight out of the bible and Christian teaching play book. When religious people deny evolution they completely miss the reason why sex is pleasurable. It's to make sure we pro-create and because there's a monthly cycle to prepare the womb for a baby and a very narrow window for fertility we have to 'pro-create' several times before hitting the jackpot, so to speak. These people just hate anyone having fun whatever they're doing, not just sex.

When I first made the decision to give my life to God at age 18 (I've since matured and no longer believe in imaginary friends) I prayed to God to remove these "perverse, wicked and ungodly" desires from me. Well, 26 years later, I still have said desires so, either there was/is no god to answer my prayer or God is perfectly ok with me the way I am. Either way, the Bible is full of shit!

Equivocation fallacy. He's not using the word "wrong" to mean "immoral. He means "not the way to do it". He however then makes a value judgement about perpetuating the species.

He tries to imply that he means "not the way to do it" but we can infer that he actually means "immoral" because, otherwise, he wouldn't care about procreation in this context. Most people's aim when having sex is to experience pleasure rather than to procreate. If your aim is pleasure then "the way to do it" is whatever way brings you pleasure, so there's nothing "wrong" with homosexual sex. I'm a 50-year-old straight man and I have never had sex with the aim of procreating so, by this guy's implied standard, all the sex that I have had has been wrong. The fact that he's not talking about that shows that his implied standard is not his actual standard. He finds gay people icky and is looking for justification. For the record, this is not intended to be an argument against or criticism of your comment. Just proceeding in the same direction.

I bet if a doctor walked into his exam room and said "the tests show you are sterile" his stance of it's wrong to have sex without the possiblity of getting his wife pregnant would go right out the window. I don't believe for a second he would give up sex for the rest of his life at that point. It's easy to criticize others for this until it affects you.

They needed to take their emotion out of it and have a conversation. They kept interrupting him and spinning his words. They should have stayed on point about the chemicals and talked about how certain percentages of many species have homosexuality. It's a naturally occurring thing. Instead, they felt attacked, so they cut him off and twisted his words.
