I wish more people with secular morals would incorporate the wellbeing of more than just humanity. It seems selfish to only want to benefit humans and not be concerned with the wellbeing of other animals

Most atheists don’t need to convince people God isn’t real, they usually couldn’t give a shit if you believe in God or not. RU-vid atheists feel the need to tell people God isn’t real because someone on the internet is wrong and they must tell them. If they were not telling you God isn’t real they would be looking for some flat earthers to tell the world is round.
Ok, seriously, when I was a graduate student we used radioactive hydrogen (tritium, ³H) to label stuff. In the waste fungus was growing...it was a pretty pink color and I wanted to collect it to study if it could be used to remove radioactive materials..alas I was told no... Anyway life adapts/evolves to it's environment

As a Swede, this is almost funny. Sweden is THE most se secular country in the whole maddafakking world. Here about 80 % are atheists, we do have a christian politcal party which gets around 5 % of the votes at the elections. And, oh, by the way, this christian political party is what the Americans would call "pro choice" and has been so since 1971 (!). Why? Because in my country abortion is considered health care, hence paid by taxpayers. In my beautiful country, you don't "come out" as an atheist because almost everyone here don't believe in a god. In my beautiful country, when a potentially prime minister would openly say that he/she believes in a god many voters would vote for another one. Im so proud and happy to have been brought up and live in the most secular country in the world.

American slavery isn't meaningfully different from ancient Near East slavery. Both are chattel slavery, and American slavery was expressly modeled on the law of Moses. I'm sure it wasn't exactly the same from a cultural standpoint because these things happened thousands of years apart, but the big bullet points are just straight up the same, and in fact the later one was based on the earlier one. American slavery was derivative of ancient Hebrew slavery.

Terry Pratchett's Diskworld book "Small Gods" is playing exactly with this premise: A god is as powerful as his believers are. If people were to stop believing in Yahweh/Jesus/Allah, etc, these gods will stop having power over our world. No legislation will be passed, on the premise that "god wills it". And there will be no flying monkeys to execute the "will of god". And the gods themselves are just a concept, and they themselves are powerless, without people empowering them.
I wish I could articulate my thoughts like this back when I was in high school... I remember I had to make a presentation for my favorite philosopher, and I asked my teacher, if it'd be okay to do one for my favorite author instead, and he said okay. And I made it about Terry Pratchett. But I couldn't put my thoughts into words for that presentation, so it ended up being generic and boring. I failed to convey his ideas in it...

It's funny that people in different cultures different religions all experience things appropriate to their religion. So is there one God or multiple? I had an experience in ICU a few years ago. I was plugged into every instrument. The instruments showed nothing. I had an incredible scary tunnel of light experience. It was just an event. It was my brain going crazy. There was no god, there were no angels, it was just trauma.
