This caller, who owns an internet service provider, told this Labour candidate: "You're talking absolute rubbish! Free broadband is the worst idea ever. You've no idea what you're doing to ruin this industry."
Caller Leslie, who started an internet service provider 18 years ago and has 15,000 connections in the UK asked: "How on earth are we going to compete against free broadband? And can you name me a single internet service provider who is in favour of your policy?"

This really doesnt though, yes he knows enough but its all from the ISP perspective which is service providing not infastructure. Most of his numbers to do with access were wrong. He obviously himself hasnt read the manifesto but to be fair this labour mp doesnt seem to know much more than he does

No he thinks he knows his stuff. He is comparing the coverage with 2010 with a failure to the then Labour govt? Technology and coverage had advance globally since that time and now. That is the factor.

Plus he mentions "magic money tree" in regards to Labour policy at the end. A bit of a giveaway that he's a mainstream brainwashed individual ignoring the "magic money tree" that the Tory govt had for DUP, Corporations etc.

No major country in the world has free broadband, the UK in area is 1 and 1/2 time larger than South Korea with a less centralized population than Sth Korea. Japan national debt is over 200% of GDP its economy is also about 45% bigger than the UKs and Japan has a more centralized population than the UK, its population is also almost double the UKs. Why he would use Sth Korea and Japan as examples is beyond me. Comparing the UK to South Korea in reference to the internet market or infrastructure is not a clear parallel you can draw.

@jjosephs6521
@jjosephs6521 4 года назад
@@insomniacbritgaming1632 I cant find a source anywhere for your claim. From what I can tell all internet service providers in Japan are private companies. I even went to the website of some of Japans largest internet providers (Google translated the websites for me) there websites have pricing for broadband for business. So I'm pretty confident business pay for broadband in Japan.
@jjosephs6521
@jjosephs6521 4 года назад
@No Place To Hide "Free broadband will increase productivity, technology and business" you have evidence to support this claim yes? Calling it FREE is complete and utter lie, Whether its provided by the government or by consumer's purchases someone's footing the bill. If its funded and payed for by the government you still paying for it, the government has no money of it's own, the government can only get money from two places on a large scale taxation and borrowing and borrowing has to be paid back with interest through more taxation. So what every Labour claims it will cost, others say there wildly under estimating the cost. But just using labours figures to build and run a broadband network to the home add the debt payments on top of that coast.

It's completely ridiculous to claim that broadband coverage in the UK is less than 10% and MPs uttering complete untruths like this should be held accountable. In 2017 it was comfortably over 80%. What this person may be speaking about is the newer form of ultra fast fibre broadband which as far as I'm aware is currently at around 8% coverage. As opposed to standard broadband. @Zuul Gatekeeper I have commented on this elsewhere. I'm not interested in party politics but I do remember Britain's remote countryside ten years ago. There should have been fibre to each village and 3G to every Hamlet and farm. There was none and that was shameful ten years ago. We really need a govt mandate to get high speed connection everywhere within 18 months. Give the Telco bosses a tax break and a funny handshake to make it happen.

@Zuul Gatekeeper You need to check out the figures for the debt under the Conservatives. From 2010 to 2019, total gross government debt (1) increased by £643 bn from £1.2 trillion to £1.8 trillion. Conservative voters dont tend to digest facts very well. If you vote for Johnson you are no different to Americans who vote for Trump.

@Shihab Rahman Stop being so naive. Government subsidized systems cost vast amounts of money, not only because of the default cost, but it'll end up costing twice as much because of increased bureaucracy; bureaucracy that private companies simply don't have. On top of that, knowing politicians, it'll most likely end up costing double what they estimate. There's no such thing as a free system, not even within socialism. There's *always* a monetary cost that someone has to cover and you, the citizen, is the primary income for the government. If you get your broadband connection for "free" from the government you'll just end up paying for it in some other manner such as increased VAT, electronics tax, or a silent (meaning they don't tell you about it) so-called "IT tax". The only thing this Labour representative is really saying is that you won't pay to a private company through a bill in your mail. The status quo still remains the same but with one exception: the government is now in direct control of your ability to access the internet. Cost doesn't go away just because you were promised free stuff. It'll just be shifted from one place to another, in this case from a bill in your mail to taxes, and you'll still end up paying for your broadband connection.

I didnt agree with the broadband policy, nor did I with some others but when we live in a country with in work poverty at the level it is at, with more cuts coming to councils etc. Then something has got to give. Do you not agree that we, as the 6th wealthiest country, should be thriving much more than we currently are? @@emziilouuu This isn't a capitalism vs socialism argument - all western democracies run heavily socialised capitalist economies. The only debate left is the degree and, consistently, those with higher degrees of social spending always occupy the first few spots in the quality of life/happiness indexes. At some point, large swathes of lower/middle income people have been convinced that the 'liberals' or the 'lefties' (depending on whether you're in the US or UK) want to destroy the middle class with tax and spend polices. This is quite a feat given that the spending they are talking about would benefit the very same people who they are convincing it is evil. Question...do the fifth of the population who don't have broadband want it? Have they been demanding it? It's more feasible that the government see this as there is a fifth of people we can't monitor on a daily basis. This has nothing to do with coverage and everything to do with power and control. Most of the laws that have been passed in the last 15-20 years have been implemented to curb the freedom of the individual largely under the guise of national security.
