I love how that's countered by when they talk about themselves it's either very short it's a monolog about how much they suck and then the other comes to slap the positivity back into them. Rayla: 'talking about how she deserves to be rejected' Callum: Excuse me shut up. No one talks bad about my best friend, not even my best friend. Or the opposite. Callum: 'talking about how his magic was the only useful skill he's ever had' Rayla: That's a lie and you know it. You're the idea guy.

I love when Callum matter of factly goes "Rayla is a hero" and Rayla is just boggling at him in the background. She'd never thought of herself like that before and he just says it.

Not to mention the story isn’t finished yet (i think its the half way point/close to it but not sure) so there’s still development to be done between both characters as the story progresses. Unlike most romances that happen at the very end.

What's funny is that the two didn't start out slated for a romance. That's something the writers decided on midway through season 2 I believe.

Yeah I'm so sick of romance tropes in genre fiction. One pursuing the other unreciprocated until OOPS They kissed for no adequately explored reason. "mediocre man getting the girl anyway". Love triangles (*shudders*, I was seriously worried there was gonna be a love triangle between Rayla, Claudia, and Callum. Thank goodness we dodged that bullet) Rayla and Callum share strong fundament morals, and have great chemistry to boot. They both give and receive desire, and emotional support equally. Like,a good romance is one where like, if in an alternate world these two were Ace/Aro they would be close, loving, platonic soul mates for life without the romance aspect. And then if you do add the romance part it just turns it into a beautiful, charming, very healthy and straightforward relationship.

If you like strong women characters then you should check out Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation. It's a redemption story so the main character starts off as a horrible person but as the series progresses he becomes a decent human being.

It's one of my fav ships alongside "Optimus Prime X Elita-1" in Transformers lol.

@@silverstarlightproductions1292 Yeah. It felt like they weren't going to to it but the writing and the chemistry they had were just right so they just went for it. I like those two because they reminded me of Sokka and Suki from Avatar the last airbender.

What makes it even better is that thunder rumbled and lightning flashed at that moment. In French, there's a saying that goes "Un coup de foudre," which literally translates to "A thunderclap," but is a metaphor for falling in love. It's believed that if you're looking at someone/into their eyes during a thunderclap, that's the moment you fall in love with that person. Slightly unrelated, but Miraculous Ladybug did this with Marinette and Adrien when she fell in love with him. (He has yet to reciprocate, but ah, we'll wait.)

It honestly just makes this ship better as their relationship wasn't built on a plan, but rather a developing foundation that the characters got overtime cementing that just like people, they got closer over time.

I don't think you understand how many instruments nyx has on that craft. Lying effectively is impossible

I've rewatched that scene more than the entire show. It's unbelievable how real the emotion conveyed was in that moment.

It's also a really beautiful bookend for his story, the first big decision he made when he met Rayla was to sacrifice his own life without a second thought to save Ezran, and then at the end he risks losing his own life to save her. He's just a really really good dude from start to finish. It's so refreshing. He doesn't just get dragged along like so many protagonists, he shapes the story with a strong moral compass right from the very first episode. It's one of the main reasons Rayla fell in love with him. That and his big doe eyes of course 😍😘

So true. It's not even anything ground breaking in concept, it's just a normal healthy relationship that happens to involve dragons and magic. It's so simple and straightforward in a refreshing way, but is elevated into the stratosphere by amazing performances, storytelling, and music (gods the music is soooo good). -No stupid love triangle -No "comedic" misunderstandings that leads to pointless drama -No overnight friends-to-lovers with for real reason -No one character providing all the desire and emotional input while the other is too busy with ANGST (they both give and receive emotional support and desire from eachother) Just wholesome goodness from start to finish with some completely believable emotional turmoil and catharsis.

I trust these writers to not take cheap shots. These two breaking up would require one or both of them to act pretty wildly out of character. They have already demonstrated they are able of quickly and compassionately resolving pretty big disagreements. Them having a falling out doesn't make sense thematically or in terms of their personalities. I think the most likely thing is they get separated by duty, Rayla goes off on some quest and Calum has to be a mage and advisor to King Ezran. And so we can get some drama from them being apart and get to have a big reunion scene, without any kind of ham-fisted romantic schism.

@@BaiZhijie I was just gonna say this. It's so true, and it works on so many levels. Rayla and Callum (and Ezran) represent the future of relations between elves and humans; they are inversions of the relationships their parents had with each other. There is a lot of space for the writers to explore their relationship as an ongoing parallel to the growing relations between humans and elves moving forward. Just because they had a successful alliance doesn't erase centuries of prejudice and war, and I'm hoping that they show Callum and Rayla dealing with those issues and continuing to lead by example. Gosh I'm rambling and not explaining myself that well but I think you get it. On top of the great performances by the VAs, and fantastic chemistry in the writing, they form a perfect emotional core to the story that serves to elevate all the themes of the narrative.

Im a grown man in his mid 30s, yet I completely adore this show for kids.🤭 And I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out why this work of art has affected me the way it did. Apparently the romance wasn't planned, but the characters "came alive" in the writing and took the writers in a new direction. (which is a sign of good art). So I think it was originally going to be a straight adventure story like Avatar, but then the romance began and pulled the narrative into a new direction.

... Now I see the show as a narrative exploration of this question: "what does it mean to love thy enemy." And is the redemptive power of love strong enough to overcome 1000 years of hatred. At the beginning of the first season Rayla is Callum mortal enemy, but the end of season three, he's willing to lay down his own life for a chance at saving hers. Watching that kind of love unfold in a work of art is deeply moving stuff. Now Im rambling! But I think thats part of why the show and their relationship works well.

i really like atla's romances but definitely prefer tdp's, so i get what you mean! in atla the romance is mostly a subplot but tdp can honestly market itself partially as a romance at this point, which is pretty neat - esp since it was so unexpected to the crew & initially unplanned

@@wordswithdragons9599 Agreed, I didn't dislike the romance in Avatar, it just seemed to come and go as the story needed it. Some points felt appropriate for the show to use it but it honestly did feel more like a side plot rather than a part of the actual plotline. I prefer how Dragon Prince managed to intertwine its romance plotline into its actual plotline, feels more refined and just as an improvement overall. Still think both series are S tier though.

@@andrews_lego_tanks_and_more One of my gripes with the romance (Mainly Aang and Katara) was how they dragged it on near the end when they couldve been together sooner and developed them as a couple from there. Theyre still great though so it doesnt bother me too much.

I trust the writers to make it work no matter what, but I literally don't think I could keep watching if they split up. Mostly because I think for that to happen one of them would have to do something really out of character in a way that would be a deal breaker for me. They just ended up writing two characters that are so perfect for each other I can't think of a way to separate them romantically without it feeling forced (obviously they could separate them in the narrative by having them have different quests or something, even if they're still together romantically so they can undergo some solo growth and then have a big reunion)

According to the creators, all of season 4 audio has been recorded, the storyboards and animatics are complete, and they're currently animating each episode. So, if all goes well, it'll be released sometime in late 2022. :D
