This is a compilation of Caltrain commuter action showing trains traveling between San Francisco and San Jose along the Peninsula. The action was shot over a period of 6 years at Burlingame (2018), Belmont (2014), San Carlos (2019), Redwood City (2016), California Avenue in Palo Alto (2016) and Santa Clara (2013) and is in geographical order north to south.
Trains depart San Francisco with power at the head end and return from San Jose in push mode. Locomotives are either F40PH-2 and its variations or P36PH-3 and its variations. Enjoy.

I'm old enough to remember a little about the steam-powered commute trains. My mom would take me along to pick up my dad from work in Burlingame and then return us home to San Mateo, a trip that often required us to wait at a grade crossing while those trains to roared past.

I never thought about it but it sure seems like it's faster than the allowed max of 79mph. Maybe it was a cowboy at the throttle trying to make up time.

@@ShoresRailfan haha come on man, PTC would have popped the train at 5 over. No more Cowboy shit on the RR. The days of being drunk off of your ass, taking your call, doing a couple of lines of coke to get right, and then running a train all day over the speed limit are OVER.

@ShoresRailfan

I'm not familiar with the type air horns that Caltrain uses. I do know that they reduced the amount of air horn use at certain stations back in 2017. Perhaps someone else will have more info.

Right now they should remain diesel and permanently terminate the electrification project, i doubt that it would work especially in the COVID pandemic.
@hytale-cmb3238
@hytale-cmb3238 3 года назад
Why? They can’t terminate it now the emus are almost done most of the poles and or bases are done and in some places wiring is complete why abandon it now?

um then if you were the CEO of a railroad I bet you will say to bring back Alco's or if railfans were the CEO of caltrain, they will probably then use E and F units to replace their F40's

Back in the 1970's I commuted between San Carlos and San Francisco on Southern Pacific. Twice I was on a train that hit a vehicle, once at 25th Avenue in San Mateo and once at Harbor Boulevard in Belmont. No injuries since those confused drivers had vacated their vehicles before the collision.
