I didn't hear the original until 2023 I've only ever known the deadmau5 remix. This intro blew my mind cz I knew the lyrics but not the voice.

It's really how the lifecycle of most artists go, they have to struggle to get popular, then once they're there they fall off dramatically. I find that especially true after like 2000ish. Once they lose that struggle the art becomes boring and generic. There's of course exceptions, Kanye is the one that comes to my mind, he had an incredible first two albums, then some okay stuff, then came out with the greatest hip-hop album, possibly greatest album ever, to ever be created. I'm going to ramble a bit here, but I think the music industry today is propping up more generic artists and less troubled artists. Looking back I can definitely think of plenty of bands from the 60s-80s whose music matured as time went on and it actually got better, Pink Floyd being a great example (though some will argue DSotM is their greatest album which gave them mainstream success). Calvin Harris fell off after this album to me, everything afterwards became generic electronic music. Most artists today follow that trend, in hip-hop, electronic music, indie music, anything I listen to I have reservations about after they get big.

@@Alexander_Grant I get what you are saying. I don't think it is the artists fault. I think it is more to do with the record companies wanting more commercial stuff. Artists come and go now. But years ago they would have long careers (some still do now, but not like it used to be)
