What a voice and what a story of redemption. As a teen, Calvin Newton sang with the Blackwood Brothers (1948) and later with the Oak Ridge Quartet (1953-1956, now called the Oak Ridge Boys), but then he got into trouble with the law and spent more than a little time behind bars. If I'm not mistaken, this is from a Gaither Homecoming Video released in 1995 which market Calvin's return to and reconciliation with Gospel music. Just goes to show no matter how far you stray, no matter how long it takes, God is always there ready to welcome you home.
seamus1956 He also said that when he was incarcerated, that all who he knew in gospel turned their backs on him, with the exception of Jake Hess who visited him regularly and gave him support and encouraged him back to the Lord.
Oh! My goodness, gracious me! That man can sing! WOW! Glory to GOD. I didn't know that he was going to be that good. The first time I ever heard of Calvin Newton was last year in April. On The Bill Gaither's Camp-Meeting Programme on The TBN Channel. He gave a great, little testimony. However he didn't sing solo, so I didn't hear him sing. Then today I was listening to Red Sovine saying The Deck of Cards and he reminded me of Calvin Newton and Jimmy Fortune (who we saw on a Johnny Cash CHRISTmas Show). So I decided to see if RU-vid had any Gospel songs by Calvin Newton. I am now a brand-new fan 🥰🇯🇲🏴🕊️🔥✝️
I don't care what anyone says, nobody can sing that song as good as Calvin Newton. Nor can they sing higher than Calvin.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I heard that Jake Hess was one guy who didn't turn his back on Calvin and visited him in prison.. Says so much for Jake. Calvin just like anyone else was able to come back to the table. So many times people desert us in our time of need but Jesus will never desert us. He is faithful and true.. Thank You Calvin. You are so blessed.
I love Calvin? And everyone at some point in their life needs to be forgiven! There are so many people who judge others because their sins are different from their own! But true Christians know that Judging is GOD'S job not ours and also if we cannot forgive others thenb God will not forgive us, and the Bible also says the measures we use to judge others HE will use the same measures to judge us. God bless us all
Yes Jake did visit Calvin while he was in jail. As you may know they were in a group together in their early years of singing. I love and miss Jake , he was one of a kind. The last time I heard Calvin he sounds I believe better than ever because every word comes from his soul. I first saw him with Don and Bob over 60 years ago.
I truly admire people like Calvin Newton as well as George Jones and Johnny Cash. Everyone makes mistakes in life, and we've seemed to come up with our own self-judgement system in society. Oh, he's been in prison, and now he's trying to sing about God? Psh, he's nothing but a pile of crap on my front lawn... SO MANY TIMES, I've seen this type of attitude from people who were "highly thought of" in my little town. These people are supposed to be the worlds role models of how a Christian should live?? Folks, a humbling thought I'll share with you. No matter what Commandment out of the 10 you break, whether you stole a pencil in elementary school or killed someone in cold blood, God views both violations of His Law as equal. You who are reading this and me who is typing this are no better than the vilest person on this earth. NEVER dismiss someone as a lost cause. Many people turned their backs on Calvin when he made bad decisions and that's shameful. Guess what, we all mess up in life! God is always watching YOU to see if you lend a helping hand, or if you're the one that's gonna knock 'em down further... Believe me this, you will hear about it from God in the end.
Oh! I've just seen Janet Pascal 02:33 from Swaggie dem. (Our affectionate name for The Pastor Jimmy Swaggart family and singers). We absolutely love her. In Calvin's testimony on The Bill Gaither's Camp-Meeting Bon-fire, he mentioned her and I was wondering if he was talking about the same Janet Pascal that we knew... and there she is. Did she ever sing solo with The Gaithers? We've seen lots of Bill Gaither's Gatherings on The TBN Channel. Some of the programmes are called The Gaithers and some are called Precious Memories 🥰🇯🇲🏴🕊️🔥✝️
Precious Memories is on NOW. The TBN Channel. It's all about Alan Jackson. I don't know him. However he's singing so very beautifully, Blessed Assurance. It started at 1600hrs and ends at 1700hrs. Enjoy 🥰🇯🇲🏴🕊️🔥✝️
