Calvin Rodgers drumming is a staple in the Gosple sound. His influence in the sound of Gosple is undeniable. So much respect and love for this mahn of God. ❤️💯
Calvin needs to appear at Drumeo festival, release a lesson with them and have a Master class done by him. He has such a wealth of information, gems and wisdom.
I love Calvin Rodgers...so glad have you here in sweet water. I am George udobong from Nigeria. Thanks to sweetwaters for hosting my mentor.. God bless you all. Peace and be safe ..put on your noise mask
Hi, how are you.? I saw your video and I loved the way you play the drums and how you explain the way to find our artistic identity. I send you a big hug from Argentina
Punk rocks drumming roots are born out of “Shout” Gospel music. Look up the history of cats like Baby Dods, who invented the hi-hats or “Charleston cymbals”. So next time you’re listening to PennyWise or older Blink 182 thank the Lord, literally! 🤙😇
Hey, paradiddle with the diddle in the middle... walk this way. Here's what might be a first, or a rarity: an album of solo drumming? Nothing else. Just drum tracks.
So in other words!! It went from groove & backbeat to throwing everything including the kitchen sink & the laundry too!!! Come on,self indulgence is king!! Keep it real!!!!
@@khalidrogers4310 it's a joke because you know how Church drummers always have to be extra with it... you know what they say Church drummers only go in the pocket for communion LOL
Glad he used some actual drum and music terminology as opposed to slang expressions. What people are calling gospel chops or gospel is a specific style of black gospel. There are different styles of gospel even today, which he mentions in the video.
Important. I grew up learning Traditional Gospel, hymns, anthems, Quartet, Contemporary, Mass Choirs etc. Many people are just interested in over the top linear fills and are not exploring the foundations. It's the FOUNDATION in Calvin's playing that makes him so musical and a mainstay on the scene .
He's well respected but that list runs DEEP. Joel Smith who played BASS AND DRUMS for Walter Hawkins was a pioneer for both bassists and drummers. Michael Williams with Commissioned was also influential as well. With that said I respect Calvin's contributions to gospel. You definitely can't tell the story of Gospel drummers without him.
I've been disillusioned by the drummers situation in modern contemporary christian music. they have been stuffed into plastic boxes and their sound is manufactured by a non drummer "sound" person.Drummers don't don't drive the group if they're even heard at all. I've played for 55 years and this situation just gets under my skin and wonder why drummers have become so complacent to this
I met Calvin a couple years ago while he was playing on tour. I asked for a picture with him after his performance, he nodded hid head yes and said "one second" he went backstage and never came back lol smh. I waited for him for 20 minutes. I got a pic with the keyboard player though who was sick and an even greater person. Despite that Calvin's still a great drummer, just wish he had time for his fans and being a gospel legend on drums didn't go to his head like that.
Love me some Calvin Rodgers. He is not only extremely talented, he breaks down these grooves and gives you all the technical knowledge anyone could ever ask for. Great ability to teach and share is knowledge. Bring Calvin back more often. You know, I rarely go to church, but when I do, I go for the music. :)
This guy is my favourite Gospel drummer. "Tell the devil I'm back" (Larry Trotter), intro to Free Indeed and Outro to More than a conqueror. Could listen those tracks all day
You guys should stop calling these things "Gospel" . They're just technics for better drum playing... Why do people keep using this term ?? I don't get it at all. Gospel means good news and they are from the Lord , it never had and never will have ANYTHING to do with the way people play instruments...This is just silly..Nothing against the guy in the video.Great drummer and all ....but gospel fills???? Gospel snare drum....oh today I'm going to put on my gospel shoes and go for a walk...
I learned it from Rain on us but also from His early Fred Hammond song like lord of the harvest. And even james fortune who I don't really listen to that much. But "Ever Again " is the great C ROD on set. Calvin Rogers.
You are by far one of the greatest drummers in any genre Calvin and you’re constantly inspiring others to reach higher. Continued success my brother in Christ!
A Blessed and Great Teacher...just so Humble. Helping the next Generation of Drummers** I have studied your technic for a long time.... Bless take Note: He have done his Homework on all the Greats who came before Him..40's-80's Young People study the History of Drumming... All styles of Drumming and timing is in music Now.
This guy Rodgers has a beautiful demeanor and he is a natural at being a teacher and instructor. This is the first time that I have heard him teach and I can't help but love this guy. His personality is awesome.
I always mistake it to the six strokes, cos I always tell my music friends that our master Calvin always use six strokes. Example is the song never again by James fortune
