I love the gadgets you've come up with to save your backs, and to keep you safe from mean mamas! I've never seen any cattle farmer use a crank on the back of a pickup, to raise a calf to you, so you can be safe from a mama, whose hormones could, and often do make them dangerous to the person who has been feeding and watering them since they arrived on your farm. My husband worked with a friend, who has been in cattle his entire life. He rented some grazing land from us, and sold some cows to my husband, for him to raise as a hobby farmer, and learn how to best treat them, for the happiest cows, with the best results possible. It's not easy work, and we saw our share of calves dying, and cows dying, but in the end, we made enough to HELP our 4 kids with college costs (leaving the bulk responsibility to them, so they would appreciate the education they were getting, and not blow off classes, because they had no skin in the game!). We still rent out our pasture fields, so we get to see the cows and calves, but we have none of the sleepless nights, trying to help a cow calf in sub zero temperatures, when they come earlier than expected! I do not envy you your cattle business. You both work together so well, and seeing you take over when your sweetheart was not able to work, was nothing short of amazing!! You deserve several of your own cows for that! LOL!!
Thank you for the lovely and thoughtful comment! It’s my first year home for calving full time and it has been a busy year with all of these heifers and rounds of bad weather. Living a country life and being able to enjoy it from inside after all of your years working hard at it must feel very good. Take care, Annette🌺
Great to see Glen was able to save the baby who seemed too comfy and didn't want to come out of the tummy @12:45. Mama cow looked so tired. Quite scary when the cows get grumpy! Calving is a lot of work! Hope you guys get a relaxing time too! Take care!
Such a beautiful heard you folks have. Some dangerous work too, I'd be worried about getting kicked by grouchy cows. Oh wow Annette, a beautiful surprise at the end! Yay! I love the little ones. Amazing! This is a lot of hard work.
Oh my what a crazy calving season…seems like may c sections compared to normal. Heifers be heifing! Love seeing all this as it is reality! Thank you. You guys amaze me
I love the thought of a cow as a gift. I enjoy the glimpses into your life. I'm too lazy to do that work... but I like watching your work. I was holding my breath waiting to see if he'd latch on (the first calf). So many calves. I love them. So much work taking care of them all. Take care and stay safe.
Love watching your video's. No matter if its calving, feeding, gardening etc. I know it's extra work tho to film while trying to do this type of work. but it's so worth it.
You sure go through a lot of struggle with all the varied cows and the calves. No two births are alike. Fun to watch but I know it is full of strife. I hope you two are now sleeping!
