Calving week 8. Sick Calves, New Bulls and Transition To Farm Work.

This week we had several inches of beautiful heavy wet snow that should get our hay lands growing especially since we just had them fertilized the week before. Yay!
We had 3 sick calves this week. Glen's dad spotted a pneumonia that Glen and I promptly treated and that calf is doing okay. We noticed a calf with a swollen navel that we treated and can't seem to pick it out of the crowd anymore so that's good. (Even with their tag # they are hard to spot when they are well)
We have a calf with scours in that yard in a quarantine pen with its mom. We treated it with antibiotics and have been dosing it with electrolytes to keep it hydrated. We have noticed some improvement and the calf is still able to walk but hadn't quite recovered spunk as of yesterday. Calf is still nursing mom so we are keeping a watchful eye.
Our videos are going to start transitioning to garden and farm work but we will keep you updated on the cows and calves too.
